  1. I know - It's amazing isn't it? Len
  2. I knew that Chalky .........I was on the Journey Butch was a taking me on, and just knew he would 'get this train back on track' soon after - and he did! Len
  3. Yup that's the one.......Yeh, thanks Butch Len
  4. You can say that again - I danced to 'Just Like The Weather' at Life-line once....'twas a good night! Len
  5. They both come hand in hand as a general rule Win - I doubt you would dance to a danceable record if you didn't like it........Ok, maybe in 'Nighter World' we would Len
  6. P.Med ya. Len
  7. Hi Kev, I'm now expecting the Prime Minister Ref the first post - A shame etc, but not surprising nowadays. I hope it all works out ok. Len
  8. Unbelievable All the best, Lenny (s)
  9. Done. It would be interesting to know the average age at present (Question Number 2) seeming as we're trying to encourage younger people to attend (and not attend!) Len
  10. It's very hard to Police - I don't like the fact we have doormen nowadays, I remember when they were first used on a regular basis, and lots of us didn't like it. I don't have to, but I choose to have a doorman at 'Lennys', and his instructions are to ask anyone he is suspicious of to name a couple of Northern Soul venues. But if he immediately sees anyone as 'outsiders' - if youngun's, he says it's an over 30's disco, or if older, he says it's a private party - You need doormen that understand our Scene a bit (most are pretty good on this after a brief description) Northern Soul is for everyone, so as I said, it really is difficult to Police - The main thing is that if a 'situation' occurs, it is dealt with quickly, and professionally. All the best, Len
  11. This is my fave, which I play out a lot Enjoy! Len P.s - B side to 'Love Child' 'Diana Ross and The Supremes - Will This Be The Day' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Htbs27UazhA
  12. ......One of which - Tony put a Rubber Band on his wrist, looked at me, and said......"You didn't know I was in a band did ya Len?".........This was many years ago, and for some reason it tickled me so much I have always remembered it - It must have been the way he said it, followed by his rye smile Len.
  13. Such a shame, I loved Tony's dry sense of humour. RIP mate. Len 'n' Nina x
  14. Bit late for me on that score - I think it's ok to be insane and laugh though (It has a slightly disturbing edge to it)........ Good luck to em I say - I'm getting well into House at the moment anyway..........Yeh - my 'House'....... Len
  15. I think I have it somewhere. I'll dig it out for you at the weekend and P.M you a scan. All the best, Len
  16. I think the statement you refer to is when Keb was commenting about the stuff he played at that time when comparing it to some of the stuff Butch is currently playing. I don’t think anyone would disagree really - Keb and others were experimenting so they were bound to play some ‘clangers’ (amongst some great tunes) Good luck with this project - Not many would want to take it on All the best, Len
  17. I think Elaine has to finish 'Carry On Northern Soul' first - She's got her work cut out that girl! Len P.s - I am lucky to have just bought a ticket to see it for a second time tomorrow night at The Castle here in Wellingborough - Hey, it would be a nice idea if those that can afford to, buy two copies of the D.V.D - maybe giving one away to someone as a Christmas present
  18. I know money is an issue for most of us, but was wondering if this would be true - As in, would an increase actually make people choose elsewhere for a matter of a pound or two?.....Entrance money (even going up to £6.00) is a small percentage of all that goes with a night out. Personally, I would gladly pay £6.00 or £7.00 for a Soul night, and definitely £12.00 for a nighter - I would quibble a bit if they were any higher, but would probably pay £8.00 for a Soul night and £15.00 for an All-nighter, if I had the confidence that it was needed for a particular venue (Trust in the promoters) If I liked a certain night, I most definitely would not choose to go elsewhere just for the sake of paying less entrance money Anyone else think the same? Len
  19. Speaking as someone who was born in Harrow, then later on in life married a Berkshire girl - I whole heartedly agree! It may have started as a Scene made up of working class people, but it soon embraced everyone - all having a common interest. That is what is so special about it - A Solicitor could be dancing next to an ex con, and neither would be 'judging' each other over their backgrounds. A bit late maybe, but I also have a Saint tattoo (that I did at School)......and I do remember swearing once Len
  20. And you handled it superbly mate, you really did - People don't realise that putting yourself up there / out there, comes with 'pain' at times - It is something one has to be capable of dealing with All the best, Len
  21. As you well know, the last thing on my mind when organising an event is people dancing! 'Chicken and egg' really ain't it mate? Huge dance floor needs to be filled / Medium dance floor gives the D.J's more 'licence' to play what they want. Also (as you saw) this particular venue isn't 'entirely' focussed on the dance floor - There are 'pockets' all around the place (The Bar area / the Record Bar / the back bit) where people listen / talk, and have a laugh. Sorry to the thread starter about this going down a different avenue (although loosely relevant) Back on topic now please. All the best, Len
  22. Hence 'touching on all eras' mate. Before the film, I stated that I'd watched some of the actors dancing, 'feeling the music', and that it had made me wince slightly because I knew they were only acting...I didn't exactly know what to expect from the film - but what I got I did not expect at all! That character with all the Tats that died in the car was amazing. As someone pointed out earlier, all the characters were of people all of us can relate to (no matter what era we came into it) It was a timeless story, and am proud that one of all of us friends has achieved this. 'Marvin Gaye - This Love Starved Heart Of Mine' in the film doesn't take anything away from what it was about! I'm still thinking about it today. Len P.s - One day I may actually meet Guy Hennigan (Most of my friends know him) and I'm sure I'll say something stupid like...."Great to meet you Ray Henderson - I've seen all your films!"......... (Being someone I respect) I also have a tape of him from Radio 2 that I played 'on lope' for a long time in my car.
  23. I thought the fact that the guy kept playing 'Frankie Valli - The Night' throughout the film was to show that he was (to quote)...."A sh*t D.J"....and that he hadn't moved on compared to his mate who was taking it very seriously (achieving his goal of saving enough to go to America) Len
  24. Yes, such a cool Character - and I ain't biased as I've never actually spoken to the man himself. Len
  25. After the film I commented about the amount of time and work that had been spent on this alone, and the fact that most had not been included. But I saw it as a positive - as in wow, all those hours 'condensed' down to this. They obviously put loads of thought into the editing, and I'm sure some decisions to cut certain parts must have been heart breaking. A few more great points - When he noticed his mate wasn't around (When he had collapsed) - Looking out for each other is always there. Not hearing a damn word!......"He's collapsed!".........."Yeh, it's great ain't it?!" The awkwardness with girls at that age! Not 'fitting in', but feeling so at home once 'released' on that dance floor! The bit when the bloke tapped on the car window to show them the Dance Comp trophy. Plenty of comedy moments in there for me. Well done again Len
