  1. I know, I just can't stop myself!......I must add - Make sure you're not put off those that do own these 'trophy' records that can actually D.J (That would be inverted snobbery) ......So, which is rarer - La-Beat issue or White Demo? Len
  2. Ref the buying into D.Jing - I understand the points etc, but I actually give most promoters more credit than that. Maybe if someone become 'flavour of the month' after managing to 'dazzle' someone with all his 'trophies', other promoters may follow and book the said person because they believe he will bring in more people - But I can't blame them for that to be perfectly honest, although I can never see the point in putting on an event that is already happening elsewhere. Pete, No offence like - But I wouldn't give you a spot if that was your C.V (I know you were jesting) All the best, Len P.s - Sorry, just read 'off topic'
  3. I remember Tony Parker having a White Demo of Al Williams (On La-Beat) Nice condition if I remember rightly. He let me play it out one night (I think he had run out of time on the decks) That was scary Would this White Demo on La-beat be a lot rarer than the issue? (I am presuming so, but what do I know?) Great record Len
  4. Seeing current events not great, but seeing old footage fantastic - Simply (and meant in the nicest possible way) because that is when it was youth culture (more exciting) Also special, because back then not much was filmed. Not forgetting that to capture 'it' on camera is impossible really - I'm not dead against it as I did it (for promotional purposes) but I do remember telling the camera man to hardly use his big light because I wanted any disruption to the evening to be kept to an absolute minimum - That's why I included lots of interviews, and looking back, I'm glad I did it (and yes I understand it was 'against the rules') All the best, Len
  5. Needs must an' all that - In fact I'm 'on the brink' myself.......No one told me Children needed feeding every day ........Kids or Vinyl, kids or Vinyl?........... Len
  6. .......and I have 'The Stoppers - Come Back Baby', and 'Kell Osborne - Quick Sand'.......but you don't want reminding really I suppose Steve Still play them / still enjoy them Len
  7. In danger? I took it seriously from my very first moment........I enjoy it sometimes All the best, Len
  8. No offence taken, just making sure I understand correctly. Ok, no personal beef, just your view. Everyone is of significance btw! I just wondered if I knew you (I may do as I know most who you have listed) Being anonymous has been discussed on another thread, and is absolutely an individuals choice - the benefits being that some may feel more comfortable putting their views across as such, and (as you pointed out) to look deeper at things. Yes debate is good for us. All the best, Len
  9. ......followed by 15 packets of Pickled Onion Monster Munch - I can taste again!!! Len
  10. I'm not sure what to say really, you have a view, that is fine - I may be wrong here, but referring to people by their second name (in this instance) "Constantine and santucci", rather than 'Marco and Elaine', comes across as if you have a problem with them personally - I could be wrong, but that is how it comes across. I stand by my view about the film on both fronts - I was surprised how good it was after my doubts, and it very nearly skinted them......They may well be in profit now, but that makes no difference, as in, it was a project Elaine wanted to complete, it was not done with financial gain as the driving force. Something to add - I was outside The 100 Club chatting to Marco on the film launch night, and someone arrived having just seen it, and explained that everyone in the cinema gave it a huge round of applause - I witnessed Marco's very genuine reaction to what the guy said - he was touched. All the best, Len P.s - Do I know you in real life btw? (Just wondered)
  11. Agree with you except for the film - It was not a money making venture, it was definitely from the heart, although one could argue, is trying to capture ‘our thing’ on film worth even trying? I think Elaine did a fantastic job, and captured it as best as anyone could have dreamed of. As I said, I agree and understand your statement. ‘Northern Soul was never supposed to be cosy’. It will never have the same buzz that it once had for me, but I am determined to enjoy the pockets that are left All the best, Len
  12. The Wellingborough Soul Club Final Night at The Embankment Club
  13. The Wellingborough Soul Club 3rd Anniversary at The Embankment Club 1997
  14. I just told my member of Staff about this, he said......."F*ck me, it's worse than Crack!" ........ Len P.s - Great record, but I would prefer to buy Sandy Golden (If I won the lottery)
  15. Great post, take it as a compliment Dave - That's what gets me through! Len
  16. Cheers Chalky. Staying in with the kids tonight - It's great!.....Just hope Nina and I make it until Midnight Happy New Year to you. Len
  17. It goes back to not everyone knows what others do, and I think it's silly to write off anything that has been played before for the sake of the true meaning of 'cutting edge'......actually, what is the true meaning of cutting edge? I thought it meant somewhere different from an out and out Oldies night, trying to push boundaries whilst keeping a great atmosphere - Giving folk a good time (The fine balance) I heard The Dream Merchants both at Burnley, and The Wilton - I see both venues as cutting edge (my understanding) Len
  18. I think I've reactivated this thread! To answer an earlier post - This thread is about Stanky, and the point being that yes, it's only an 'ok' record, but was played to great effect - The Dream Merchants also only an 'ok' record (and I won't shout about Ritchie Havens) But all did work for some reason.........Maybe it was the Chocolate Liqueurs...... .......Christ, I think some of you lot put the music above having a good time Len
  19. You're not wrong It's just my opinion that to include some good reactivated tunes, and a few great oldies is a positive addition to a cutting edge night (helps the atmosphere) Ok, I can except you don't want any 'great oldies' at a cutting edge night because you know those, and defeats the object - But do you welcome those tunes that are only known to very few people? Some of them will be new (cutting edge) to various people. Len P.s - I suppose your argument is that doing so waters down the whole meaning of cutting edge (which is a fair point)
  20. Hi mate, Out of interest, would you have welcomed my maybe a 3rd reactivation of 'The Dream Merchants' at a Cutting Edge' venue? Surely something like this has a place as so many people didn't know it - If we didn't reactivate records some would disappear without being used to their full potential. Len
  21. No he said Butch played it Covered up - The chap that rang Paul Donnelly said it was also covered at Stafford as 'Walter And The Admirations'. Chalky will confirm - Not that important, but interesting to know. Len
  22. No need to be sorry for disagreeing - We will 'agree to disagree' here, because I am a great believer in 'light and shade' - Look at the effect of just that in 'The case of Stanky' 'Cutting Edge' through the 80's would have been as you describe it, but my view is that it had to change slightly or the new records would run out - I see it as giving it a new dimension, and let's face it, when a great oldie is whacked on it can give the night a real 'boost' Old and New compliment each other. Len
  23. I did, and apparently Butch did years ago - Chalky can confirm if this was the case. All good fun Len
