  1. Thought be interesting to see how things are nowadays with ref to how many people travel fair distances to events - Views / comments most welcome. Len
  2. Hi Paul, Just to back up what Mike has stated (as was part of the discussions on what to do) A complaint came through, we looked at it, there was absolutely no mention of hiding anything for the sake of the site, just thought to lock it was the sensible thing to do. All the best, Len.
  3. Great stuff. Yes, thanks for posting this up. Len
  4. Nowt wrong in tweaking the speed slightly for some tunes - For dancing, it can be the difference between enjoying, or walking through treacle!.......In my humble opinion of course You may have a point ref posting on You Tube though All the best, Len
  5. 'The Internationals - Beautiful Philosophy' ??? All the best, Len
  6. Great thread on Record Rooms here - All the best, Len
  7. I thought he meant "I seriously hope I'm right" / so "NO" stands No is good (If answering the thread title) Len
  8. I have one Ady, PM me where you want it sending. All the best, Len
  9. Yes RIP Toby, Always got on really well with him. Len.
  10. Don't panic folks - If the Amish can stick to their traditions, I'm sure we can for the foreseeable future All the best, Len
  11. My Dad was keen on Johnny Mathis - How could I reject that?! I singled out the vinyl because nowadays there are other options to how people can listen to the sounds - I know taking that bit away from us would be too much, which is understandable because we have the collecting side as an added interest. If 'The Wigan Young Souls' are doing it our way, then power to em / I personally also say power to anyone young that enjoys the music through what means they choose. That's my view anyway, I was interested in other peoples' views - Like a post earlier, someone said ten years ago he had a very different view, but now not as bothered if it means the music carries on being enjoyed. Len
  12. Yes of course, but some people can be 'Oh so OVO' (Shouting it from the roof tops), which may put off some kid that is only interested in enjoying the sounds. Keep collecting mate Len
  13. That's good, I just can't see many young people being attracted to somewhere where the average age is now 50 - I wasn't mainstream, but I wouldn't want to go anywhere near somewhere when I was that age if my Dad was about! It looks like if they're on our scene they will carry on the record thing, but if they do something themselves then that's up to them. Hey ho Len
  14. I don't think they'd particularly want to, I don't think they would give it much thought (Not being bothered where the sound is coming from) Records will always be important to us, but if it goes down another route for the younguns so be it Len
  15. Goes back to acting professionally - you should never feel like that when you're just trying to put in place what has been agreed. The above point in bold could be another thread altogether! I've had nightmares when staff / managers are basically working against you and the whole event. That is the one thing that has really annoyed me over the years - Some 'jobs worth' throwing his weight around for the sake of it. There was 4 different managers over The Embankment Club years, and one in particular was so miserable and awkward, one night he was so rude to a regular record dealer there, the guy packed up and went home! I rang him the next day to apologize, but ffs, you shouldn't have to be 'picking up the pieces' after miserable management! (There's enough to think about when running an event) Len
  16. That's the difference - Not many of our lot can command big fees in relation to pulling people through the door. Just Butch (and maybe a few others) Going back to other points raised on this thread - In the defense of promoters, if nothing is mentioned about fees before an event, I'd say that it was a given that the DJ excepts that he will get something if there's enough in the pot (That's the way I see it anyway) Obviously these £10,000.00 plus DJs sort that kind of business well in advance. Len
  17. Even at $500,000.00 Calvin Harris can make a mistake - So rest easy guys
  18. It is cr*p though I know, the nerves have kicked in 5 days before the event, and you're there long before everyone else so it seems natural to start checking your watch the moment opening time arrives......just as the last record goes on you relax Been there many times, it's not for me nowadays but my heart goes out to you - I'll just attend and criticize Len
  19. Especially at midnight!
  20. Good on ya. Nothing wrong in anything there - Your DJs all saw themselves as 'part of the team', as in, you and they all had the same goal of wanting this place to work, and the agreement was set before the event. You also kept your word and paid them when it did 'look like a runner' Being straight down the line that is - Being straight down the line with people avoids all sorts of unnecessary problems (ever) All the best, Len
  21. Thanks Carl - I think I'll stick with me records Len
  22. Years ago there was an OVO thread (One of the original ones) ........I posted something on the lines of........."Would it be ok if a well respected DJ like Brian Rae played off CDs because he has done so much for the scene, a bit like only the Queen can eat swans?"........ The reply........."No Len"......... Maybe peoples' views have since changed with age, especially if we're aiming this at younger people Len
  23. I didn't know what it was mate (I thought it may be relevant to Carls' post) I was talking to a 'Download DJ' at the weekend and he mentioned it. Cheers, Len
  24. When ya done - Enlighten us please! Len
