  1. To me - A Roger tune Len 'Sheila Ferguson - And In Return'
  2. Funny you should say that - It’s often that I ‘hark back’ talking to Nina (Whilst she’s trying to concentrate on ‘Gogglebox’) about those days when I (and all of us) used to say such things as….”So and so’s on, I’ll see you in a bit”…….knowing I would be dancing to that DJs’ whole set (journey) Roger was one of those DJs - Unless he decided to go down his R‘n’B route, in which case I would soon return (spitting feathers) ((Bless him)) Ahem, slight contrast to your like of the R'n'B route that Len P.s - ...."Uh uh, ain't that just like a woman? Do Do Do Do Do".........
  3. Just as I queued up my second record to round off a night at The Embankment Club, Roger and Adam came 'bounding up', kicked me off the decks and took over - They did ok actually Len
  4. I was in the record bar at The Mars Bar All-nighter (some time back) All of a sudden, Roger leapt from behind his record stall, did a load of acrobatics, brushed himself down, then re-took his place behind his record stall as if nothing had happened. I didn't think 'record bar people' were allowed to dance Len
  5. I've just realized.........There's me trying to build up a 'mysterious profile' before I eventually let the cat out the bag as to whom I'm talking about right at the end of my introductory post - The clue's in the blo*dy title!!! Len
  6. Hi folks, Welcome to the third ‘Spot-light On’. Just a very brief explanation as to why I closed the last one - It was because a small percentage of the thread touched upon Keith Minshulls' personal life which isn’t right, so it was best to do so. I spoke to Keith soon after and he was really nice about it - I was relieved to hear him acknowledge that he did recognize the positives of this series, and the good intention behind it. Thanks Keith for your understanding. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is written about someone may not be too big a deal to the person writing it (especially if only a small part of an otherwise complimentary post), but it may well be a big deal to the person it is about - When this happens, that can become the only part that person focuses on (Which is understandable) So with this in mind, let’s keep it soul related and truthful Onwards we go - This next person is someone else who has been on the scene a very long time, and I’d say he is one of the nicest people around….(He doesn’t know this next bit) I remember at one of my first All-nighters, I was chatting to Johnny Fingers about a record, Johnny nodded towards this person, saying……”Ask him, I’m sure he’s got one”……I was too scared to, so I scuttled off quickly (I seemed to do a lot of ‘scuttling’ when I were young) Years later I got to know this person, and what a nice chap (not scary at all) He’s DJed for me several times over the years, and has always done a fantastic job of that, along with bringing the ‘Fun Factor’ along with him. I’d say he is one of the most diverse DJs we have (he has many ‘DJ Hats’) He also did a grand job of DJing at mine and Ninas’ Wedding Personally, I’d like to know about his early days on the scene - Where he first DJed, and of course the usual request of stories / photos / flyers (Please note Chalky) / what tunes you associate him with etc. So let’s start this third ball rolling with the man ‘Roger Banks’……Over to you folks…… All the best, Len N.B - Even after giving permission, if the person being featured is not happy with any of the posts, let me know and I will delete immediately.
  7. Have removed this thread, and would like to apologize to both Keith Minshull and his wife Gwen for any upset caused. I will give this 'Spot-light On' project some serious thought, as I (or the site) do not want to upset or embarrass anyone in the future. All the best, Len.
  8. Thanks for all your input folks - See below link to the next 'Spot-light On' All the best, Len
  9. 'YOUR' right Gareth Len
  10. I hope not! Len
  11. Who mentioned anything about dancing?! Maybe I'm a 'New Wave Oldies Fan' now - I just enjoy getting away from home every so often, and listening to good music. If those tunes need to be ones I already know, so be it - At least I like those ones 'Mid-tempo' for me, not ready for 'Down-tempo' just yet - But please let me in when I am Len
  12. Yup, the original reason for travelling was to hear tunes you wouldn't hear otherwise, and yes that reasoning is basically behind us (In comparison) Nowadays the attraction of traveling has changed to going somewhere for a different experience (not necessarily musically) 'tis for me anyway Len P.s - Obviously I don't want to hear a load of ol' sh*te if I'm 'out 'n' about' though
  13. I was chatting to someone last week, and he asked where I'd been lately. I told him I'd been up to New Century Soul at Bury Town Hall, also about other plans I had 'afoot'. He kinda 'grimaced', and said......."It's a shame it's so far"....... The ol' boy I was speaking to is a great bloke, and has been on the local scene for a very long time. I tried to explain why I actually like going to places a far, I said that part of the experience is being somewhere you are not used to being (almost another world!).......I suppose the people that actually live near the places we travel to don't get that added 'magic', but of course they get that when they themselves travel to places afar (from them) A bit of a muddled paragraph that - I'm trying to say that there is a point to travelling fair distances (Or we wouldn't do it) Len
  14. I like the instrumental - The other side of the multi coloured one (That's what I have anyway) Listen to it all the way through, it's brilliant Len
  15. Let's say the time it was released (Unless Jem comments otherwise of course) Len
  16. I think Jem was asking - Among all our 'acquired taste' tunes (to the outside world that is), which tunes do you think would appeal to the general public, but sadly (not due to lack of talent), never got the appreciation they deserved. Forget people doing covers (and ruining the tunes) Simply - What tunes do you think would appeal to the general public in their original form (sound-wise) ((Some we like, they simply would not)) All the best, Len P.s - Jem understands the 'keep it underground' bit
  17. Yes, it was just an 'out of interest' thing really, am obviously aware there are many other clubs that were / are really good, The hand full I put up are a cross section of the years. Point taken ref younger people could only tick The 100 Club. I thought it would be interesting to read peoples' comparison views if they have attended more than one of those venues listed. All the best, Len
  18. Good point. Len
  19. You can now tick more than one box.......and discuss - Let's go! Len
  20. Nothing dubious mate - (From Google) Metrosexual - A heterosexual urban man who enjoys shopping, fashion, and similar interests traditionally associated with women or homosexual men. ......that's me that is - Not sure what the 'interests traditionally associated with' are - But I like shopping / and fashion (my own that is)...... No wonder the wife (Nina) loves me Great word though init? Len
  21. Probably?!!! Len
  22. This is the last one not on the list that I'll answer! Good choice (go to 'multi-choice') Len
  23. ......and 'which one did you prefer and why?'....Take it away guys ......You're supposed to be going by the ones on the list...... Len Arrrr - That be easier Len
