  1. I must apologise for my 'not so' humble opinion on my post (It was in actual fact 'opinionated').....What I meant was, the guys' dancing was pretty 'on point', but you can't really do too much to that particular record, so it would be good to see him dance to a record with a bit more 'going on'. Not my cup of tea that tune - I've always had trouble understanding why peoples' taste in music isn't exactly the same as mine Oh, and atmosphere is near on impossible to catch on camera - It was an afternoon do which of course can be light (because of that 'damn' sunshine) All the best, Len P.s - Listen to 'The Sharpees' again - It's awesome (Yup, I still can't understand.....)
  2. Right, I wasn’t gonna say anything……..but ‘hey ho’ you know me…… This is what I see (and this is meant to be complimentary to the guy in the vid) I see a man that no doubt has SOUL / I hear a tune that has none. He is obviously making the most of his weekend and good on him, but I am mystified why such an awful record is played at a SOUL venue - In addition, it’s so blo*dy light!…”Yeh it’s day time Len”……..”I know, so play a blo*dy SOUL record and make an atmosphere!”…....(Or close the curtains) In my humble opinion of course I’d like to see the guy dance to this (He would smash it!) All the best, Len
  3. I think people 'dancing how they feel' does actually end up 'Northern Soul' in some form or another, which comes from being influenced by other dancers over the years (wherever that may have been) Not copying 'parrot fashion', just being influenced naturally. So yeh, I get your point. Len
  4. Btw, the only dance competition I ever entered (knowingly) was the cleethorpes' one - We all did which was a great laugh! Len P.s - Ok, I will name a cracking dancer - Panch, but you never see it because he never takes himself seriously for more than 8 seconds at a time!
  5. I seen him there too! Yes great bouncy floor that (It made 'Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl' even better!) I used to really enjoy dancing down The 100 Club (Younger and fitter back then as well) Sometimes I felt I was ‘dancing on the f*cking ceiling!’ (Swear word needed there) A term I heard back then was ‘Dancing hard’, a great explanation that, which described everyone in the room! (What they looked like wasn't the issue) Someone said to me once that they would love to see themselves dance. Not in a vain way I hasten to add, it was said more in a ‘I wonder what I look like’ kinda way. He then said……”Wouldn’t you Len?”…..I replied……”No way! I would be mortified if I saw myself dancing!”…..And I’m someone who accidentally won a dance competition just dancing away right at the back of the room (I didn’t know the competition was on) the prize was £4.00 btw I won’t name names, but I enjoy seeing the ‘Standing still’ dance - I hate any derogatory comments about anyone's dancing. So (As you asked the question Paul) My personal interpretation of 'Proper dancing' is 'Dancing hard', which simply means enjoying the tunes in your own way (Maybe with a bit of 'Oooooomph!').....Not sure that is the intended / correct meaning though All the best, Len
  6. I'll play 'Nancy Butts' at Bury for you Louis. RIP mate. Len.
  7. I'm constantly surprised (disturbed) at NS clubs Len
  8. I have 'It's Better' Ady - PM me the address (A pint will do me) Len
  9. So do I - Why is this?! I love 'Main Change - Sunshine Is Her Way', even after the whole caravan at Cleethorpes ribbed me all weekend when I bought it, saying it was 'Sesame Street', then proceeded to make everyone who entered the caravan listen to it and give their take on it! Chantel immediately said....."I love this!"......(So that made it all good in spite of everyone else's views) I also used to really enjoyed dancing to 'Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl' (Above) Maybe I just like 'Sunshine' More 'Cheese' please (But not too much more) Len
  10. I find it amazing that no matter how loud all those people that 'did it' through the 80s and 90s shout about the many quality nights they had, it still doesn't make a blind bit of difference to what is perceived. I.e, 'The Wigan Years' being the most important / or only time - Don't get me wrong, of course that era has a very important place as 'part' of the scene, but come on - Let's hear it for The 100 Club for instance, nearly 40 years of a monthly All-nighter shows it never went away! It's not about what was best, it's about showing that there is so much more to this scene than 'way back then' All the best, Len P.s - Keep shouting guys
  11. It was just lovely playing this tune at home, we have great memories of dancing to it at The 100 club - It even got the wife (Nina) having a jig round the kitchen for a mo (Don't tell her I said) Len
  12. I got mine yesterday (Thanks Mark) ((Bicknell not Dobson)) Awesome tune Len
  13. As Matts' pic shows, you can get a decent crowd of young people enjoying our music, but to most, it's simply background music to a good night out. Nothing wrong in that, I just doubt they will have the obsession we have towards it........Probably a healthy outlook actually - They're all blo*dy smiling! (Not sure I like that) Len
  14. Getting their 'kicks' from dressing up as scary clowns / or filming themselves doing disgusting things like throwing up in slow motion etc (That ain't youth culture to me) All the best, Len
  15. I said don't fret - You're only 50 mate! Len
  16. Not me for sure! I think we will be talking about who will replace us for the next 10 years - Hopefully in the mean-time we'll remember to make the most of the time each of us has left on this fascinating Scene of ours. All the best, Len
  17. "The title of the song, not the artist"........................"Take my breath away"......... Len
  18. Definitely not! One can also eat too much Chocolate Len P.s - I'm sounding more like a girl every day
  19. Priorities mate. Same here, the long recession enabled me to do more All-nighters than I am currently doing (now my business has finally got busy) All-nighters are the ultimate 'escape', so I could forget my 'worries and woes' of business for the weekend, but I'm glad that energy is now being used here at work. Not having much to do for too long is bad for the soul, and it's healthy to also concentrate on other things - I don't want to be a 'Northern Soul Victim' (again) Actually, not going out as often makes when you do that more enjoyable Len
  20. Just submitted my vote - I will be going to The Stateside Soul Club Alnighter at Stubshaw Cross WMC on the 29th October. Len
  21. DARK - Absolutely essential / low ceiling much better for atmos. I'm keen on the ol' Glitter Ball (slow with a blue light) that 'movement' also helps with the atmos / ambiance of a place. Ref the aircraft hangers, I looked in to putting on an event at Sywell Aerodrome (Northants) which has a huge hanger all done up nice, but the size of the dance floor in the middle was ridiculous (fine for a wedding I suppose) Shame as the venue really is superb. I turned out all the lights in The Studio Room at The Wellingborough All-dayer, you couldn't see ya hand in front of your face - I thought it was great, yet a few people came up and said it was too dark (Maybe our eyes ain't what they used to be) Oh, and candles of course Manus! Len P.s - Cigarette smoke dulled the light (Had its' downside though)
