  1. So do I - Why is this?! I love 'Main Change - Sunshine Is Her Way', even after the whole caravan at Cleethorpes ribbed me all weekend when I bought it, saying it was 'Sesame Street', then proceeded to make everyone who entered the caravan listen to it and give their take on it! Chantel immediately said....."I love this!"......(So that made it all good in spite of everyone else's views) I also used to really enjoyed dancing to 'Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl' (Above) Maybe I just like 'Sunshine' More 'Cheese' please (But not too much more) Len
  2. I find it amazing that no matter how loud all those people that 'did it' through the 80s and 90s shout about the many quality nights they had, it still doesn't make a blind bit of difference to what is perceived. I.e, 'The Wigan Years' being the most important / or only time - Don't get me wrong, of course that era has a very important place as 'part' of the scene, but come on - Let's hear it for The 100 Club for instance, nearly 40 years of a monthly All-nighter shows it never went away! It's not about what was best, it's about showing that there is so much more to this scene than 'way back then' All the best, Len P.s - Keep shouting guys
  3. It was just lovely playing this tune at home, we have great memories of dancing to it at The 100 club - It even got the wife (Nina) having a jig round the kitchen for a mo (Don't tell her I said) Len
  4. I got mine yesterday (Thanks Mark) ((Bicknell not Dobson)) Awesome tune Len
  5. As Matts' pic shows, you can get a decent crowd of young people enjoying our music, but to most, it's simply background music to a good night out. Nothing wrong in that, I just doubt they will have the obsession we have towards it........Probably a healthy outlook actually - They're all blo*dy smiling! (Not sure I like that) Len
  6. Getting their 'kicks' from dressing up as scary clowns / or filming themselves doing disgusting things like throwing up in slow motion etc (That ain't youth culture to me) All the best, Len
  7. I said don't fret - You're only 50 mate! Len
  8. Not me for sure! I think we will be talking about who will replace us for the next 10 years - Hopefully in the mean-time we'll remember to make the most of the time each of us has left on this fascinating Scene of ours. All the best, Len
  9. "The title of the song, not the artist"........................"Take my breath away"......... Len
  10. Definitely not! One can also eat too much Chocolate Len P.s - I'm sounding more like a girl every day
  11. Priorities mate. Same here, the long recession enabled me to do more All-nighters than I am currently doing (now my business has finally got busy) All-nighters are the ultimate 'escape', so I could forget my 'worries and woes' of business for the weekend, but I'm glad that energy is now being used here at work. Not having much to do for too long is bad for the soul, and it's healthy to also concentrate on other things - I don't want to be a 'Northern Soul Victim' (again) Actually, not going out as often makes when you do that more enjoyable Len
  12. Just submitted my vote - I will be going to The Stateside Soul Club Alnighter at Stubshaw Cross WMC on the 29th October. Len
  13. DARK - Absolutely essential / low ceiling much better for atmos. I'm keen on the ol' Glitter Ball (slow with a blue light) that 'movement' also helps with the atmos / ambiance of a place. Ref the aircraft hangers, I looked in to putting on an event at Sywell Aerodrome (Northants) which has a huge hanger all done up nice, but the size of the dance floor in the middle was ridiculous (fine for a wedding I suppose) Shame as the venue really is superb. I turned out all the lights in The Studio Room at The Wellingborough All-dayer, you couldn't see ya hand in front of your face - I thought it was great, yet a few people came up and said it was too dark (Maybe our eyes ain't what they used to be) Oh, and candles of course Manus! Len P.s - Cigarette smoke dulled the light (Had its' downside though)
  14. Mick 'n' Mo would do well to play here Len
  15. My plays (in exactly this order) Mary Wells - He’s The One I Love - ‘Sings My Guy LP’ Cynthia & The Imaginations - Hey Boy - Blue Rock Barbara Greene - Young Boy - Renee Bobby Reed - I’ll Find A Way - Loma Kim Katrell - Did You See Her Last Night - Tyson Records Frank Howard - Judy - Excello Records The 5 Stairsteps & Cubie - Tell Me Who - Buddah Records Tamiko - Don’t Laugh If I Cry At Your Party - Atco Regina Sherard - Helpless Baby - King Candy & The Kisses - Are You Trying To Get Rid Of Me Baby - Acetate All the best, Len
  16. Are you sure? Len
  17. Yeh it was big a good few years back, great record! It was played at most places so I think people recognized it. It's weird how tunes like this disappear off play lists at the same time. Another one that has been 'awol' for a while is 'Cookie Scott & The Chevelles - I Don't Care' (Great B side as well 'Misled') This particular one was hammed though so takes the edge off I suppose. Hence it's great when they get reactivated when the time is right. (Another one that springs to mind is 'Vanguards - Good Times Bad Times') What a tune! All the best, Len
  18. Brilliant tune - I'm gonna dig mine out again. Cheers. Len
  19. NEWBY & JOHNSON - I Want To Give You My Everything Fantastic record Len
  20. Crackin' init? I'm sure the thread will get back on track.......if I stop typing........ Len
  21. Right folks, below is the said version of 'Got To Get You Into My Life' Let me know what you think / who you think it is. I really like it, and if as a result of this thread I finally find out who sang it AND got it somehow, that would end my 30 year search! Thanks in advance for your help. All the best, Len 01 Got to get you into my life.mp3
  22. Finally!........After going through a load of stuff up in me loft / then searching through 5 drawers of old tapes, I found the b*stard! Typical that it was in the last row of the last drawer that I was going through! It was actually quite nice going through those drawers (that don't sound right) I came across really old tapes that have been given to me over the years of which contained little notes along with the play lists......."Hope there's something new to you Len etc"........ Lots of live tapes as well - It reminded me that there is a 'world' of exciting stuff in our collective tape archives I have found someone who can make me a sound file of this version of 'Got To Get You Into My Life' from my tape (The genius that is Steve Scotney) So 'watch this space' I'll be back shortly.......... Len
  23. Thanks for all the input folks, it made for really nice reading. I've been a bit busy of late, but will sort the next 'Spot-light On' soon - Keep those suggestions coming in All the best, Len
  24. Always liked this. Len
  25. Agree with it standing up ok with the others (But not the one I want) We may come up trumps, if not I will try and dig out the said tape.....then ask how the heck to put a sound clip up from it - You will be blown away I promise Len
