  1. Hi Dianne, I'm pretty sure I have one - Will PM you with a price. All the best, Len
  2. But surely the vegan would at least try the steak if it was 'rare' Len
  3. This is a very serious matter Len
  4. See you in 'The Kenwood Suite' at New Century Soul on Boxing day - It'll all be explained! HAPPY CHRISTMAS FOLKZ Len
  5. They do care about the people that come to dance / Yes, they are happy to see 3 or 4 people dancing, whist others are enjoying listening to the DJs' choices / It has nothing to do with Original vinyl, they are just tunes the DJ wants to share with others (I wish some would remind themselves of that point) Doing so is a very difficult job nowadays because that 'hunger' for hearing tunes one doesn't know is diminishing (on the whole) A crying shame to me. To anyone out there trying to share the enjoyment they personally get from their records - STICK WITH IT! Some of us do still appreciate it. This creativity is what keeps it going! All the best, Len
  6. I don't think there is ever a point where enough is enough 'the end'. Some of us are 'worse' than others, but I know some collectors that 'want that next tune' before the one they've just bought gets delivered! Personally, I don't buy any where near as many records / tunes as I used to as I am content with what I have, to enjoy, and (like you) discover once again tunes I have but forgot I had. I hope the above makes sense All the best, Len
  7. Well I'm flattered it was at least once there Len
  8. Lack of attendees goes back to what has been discussed many times (Too many events / people ratio) Although more and more people are coming on to the scene, so some don't do too bad (numbers wise anyway) I too am sometimes 'puzzled' at what I hear out and about.....Not sure about the ego bit - It used to be banded about that DJs playing tried and tested to a packed dance floor was the ego trip, and now it seems that has been 'flipped on its' head' to be aimed at DJs playing lesser known stuff that may empty the dance floor every so often (which comes with the territory). I wouldn't say looking across an empty dance floor hoping 'to god' that people appreciate the said tune and understand what the DJ was attempting to do is by any means an ego trip (You may have witnessed something a bit different to what I have described though) Yup defo loads of oldies that aren't really known to the masses - There may be the odd 'newie' that really stands out, but some are either 'as good', or just pretty good but still worth playing in the interests of um keeping it interesting (When compared to the awsome tunes we have listened to over the years) All the best, Len P.s - If anyone's going to New Century Soul at Bury town hall next Saturday, pop in to The Kenwood Suite - You'll witness me clearing the dance floor, Bob Hinsley clearing the dance floor, and Simon Ingham positively dying on his *rse - Great night though
  9. I quite like it See ya next Sat Paul Len
  10. I'll take that as a compliment Len
  11. A 'proper' job Len
  12. You stayed in too last night then - Maybe we should go out more and get practicing .......For chr*st's sakes 'Soul-source', I'm meant to be welding here at work today not discussing dance moves! Len
  13. True - But my comment was from 'gut instinct' Poor bloke - he didn't ask for all this attention (It is complimentary mind) Len
  14. It's a pleasure to see someone that happens to look pretty graceful when 'doing their stuff'. The first time I saw unique, yet 'Northern' style dancing was when I was in my teens at Cliff Steeles' 'Detroit Academicals' Soul event at a place called 'Friendlys'. This bloke had that 'Mick Hucknell' look, he was almost bent double for lots of his dancing - He was so into it, facial expressions, his feet doing all sorts, (and his long fringe somehow also adding something to it) To some people he may have looked a bit strange, but I remember being absolutely mesmerized by it. I guess that must have been 'Proper Dancing' All the best, Len
  15. I must apologise for my 'not so' humble opinion on my post (It was in actual fact 'opinionated').....What I meant was, the guys' dancing was pretty 'on point', but you can't really do too much to that particular record, so it would be good to see him dance to a record with a bit more 'going on'. Not my cup of tea that tune - I've always had trouble understanding why peoples' taste in music isn't exactly the same as mine Oh, and atmosphere is near on impossible to catch on camera - It was an afternoon do which of course can be light (because of that 'damn' sunshine) All the best, Len P.s - Listen to 'The Sharpees' again - It's awesome (Yup, I still can't understand.....)
  16. Right, I wasn’t gonna say anything……..but ‘hey ho’ you know me…… This is what I see (and this is meant to be complimentary to the guy in the vid) I see a man that no doubt has SOUL / I hear a tune that has none. He is obviously making the most of his weekend and good on him, but I am mystified why such an awful record is played at a SOUL venue - In addition, it’s so blo*dy light!…”Yeh it’s day time Len”……..”I know, so play a blo*dy SOUL record and make an atmosphere!”…....(Or close the curtains) In my humble opinion of course I’d like to see the guy dance to this (He would smash it!) All the best, Len
  17. Yeh or that Len
  18. I think people 'dancing how they feel' does actually end up 'Northern Soul' in some form or another, which comes from being influenced by other dancers over the years (wherever that may have been) Not copying 'parrot fashion', just being influenced naturally. So yeh, I get your point. Len
  19. Btw, the only dance competition I ever entered (knowingly) was the cleethorpes' one - We all did which was a great laugh! Len P.s - Ok, I will name a cracking dancer - Panch, but you never see it because he never takes himself seriously for more than 8 seconds at a time!
  20. and strong coffee Len
  21. I seen him there too! Yes great bouncy floor that (It made 'Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl' even better!) I used to really enjoy dancing down The 100 Club (Younger and fitter back then as well) Sometimes I felt I was ‘dancing on the f*cking ceiling!’ (Swear word needed there) A term I heard back then was ‘Dancing hard’, a great explanation that, which described everyone in the room! (What they looked like wasn't the issue) Someone said to me once that they would love to see themselves dance. Not in a vain way I hasten to add, it was said more in a ‘I wonder what I look like’ kinda way. He then said……”Wouldn’t you Len?”…..I replied……”No way! I would be mortified if I saw myself dancing!”…..And I’m someone who accidentally won a dance competition just dancing away right at the back of the room (I didn’t know the competition was on) the prize was £4.00 btw I won’t name names, but I enjoy seeing the ‘Standing still’ dance - I hate any derogatory comments about anyone's dancing. So (As you asked the question Paul) My personal interpretation of 'Proper dancing' is 'Dancing hard', which simply means enjoying the tunes in your own way (Maybe with a bit of 'Oooooomph!').....Not sure that is the intended / correct meaning though All the best, Len
  22. I'll play 'Nancy Butts' at Bury for you Louis. RIP mate. Len.
