  1. We'll see by the result of course - But I've always thought to just serve up (as you put it) the same old same old, is patronizing to the punters. My view is that most people who enjoy SOUL music would welcome something new (and someone new if they were ok at DJing) As long as it's 'served up' properly, as in, not boring people to death by only playing tunes that the majority there are unfamiliar with. A good record is a good record! So 'something old something new' gets my vote every time - They compliment each other! (Although you have put 'something old someone new' in your title) Len
  2. For those that missed it, here's a funny thread that may have some answers Len

  6. Serious answer - To share the enjoyment they get from their PERSONAL taste (That's why I've always done it) Although it is a thankless task from time to time, and can be blo*dy hard work, so get ya point of why anyone would want to be a soul DJ - Especially nowadays, because it seems everyone is an expert! Len
  7. Stop being so positive Sean - You're better than that! Len

  13. Absolutely agree - It was a fantastic / exciting period of the scene. Manifesto Magazine has been mentioned on this thread - If any of you have old copies, look at the events section, just two pages for three months events! The same crowd mainly used to end up at the same events week in week out. Whereas today we're 'splintered' all over the place, with many venues struggling to get enough people in (Do the math) Great memories. Len
  14. I may be remembering this wrong (So please correct me if so) But I'm sure I remember a kind of hand written flyer for the first 'Rarest Of The Rare' All-nighter (maybe done with a marker pen)......God knows what year though Great if someone can post it up. Len
  15. Tim Brown first / then Gary Spencer - Great nights! Len P.s - Me too ref 'Out-A-Site' lists
  16. Plenty going on this weekend - I've been told I'm camping in my garden with my daughter, so not a lot of soul for me. If my Son joins us he'll be playing 'Slipknot', so not so sure most of you will want my weekend's Top 5 next week Have a great Easter where ever you go. All the best, Len
  17. 'Linda Griner' - Ain't heard that played out in a long long time - Great tune Len
  18. Yeh s*d it - I could do that with my Tippex Mouse. Which will be fine because it will become part of the record's history Len
  19. Thanks for your posts so far - Enjoy where you go this weekend, and share a few more that catch ya ears with us next week Cheers. All the best, Len
  20. Great voice ain't he? Len 'Joe Bataan - Crystal Blue Persuasion'
  21. Yes, I like that Mike. I've always loved 'Gypsy Woman'. I used to have a few bits of Latin Soul ('Ray Barretto - Hard Hands' / 'Bobby Valentine - Bad Breath') Here's 'Gypsy Woman' live. Len
  22. People are fascinating Len
  23. I got this from my sister for Christmas - Do you like it? Len
  24. Hi Ed, See below an old thread on the same subject, but it covers anyone on the scene (Quite an interesting read) Len
  25. Hi Sean, No I didn't see your post ref your Benn Hall costs going up (26% is a huge hike!) Coincidentally I was thinking about the subject (probably related to my own usual business worries), and thought the way our scene is 'business wise' is pretty interesting (or bizarre even) Your numbers going up compensating for any rise in costs is a great achievement, especially nowadays. All the best, Len
