  1. Yes good point (s) It is useful for something to be introduced / or named after it's played, if it's a tune not widely known. No mike work doesn't mean just plonking on one tune after the other with no thought. Sometimes a room doesn't embrace lot's of mike work, whereas other times, the ol' chit chat can help the atmos. Len
  2. No mike work can work well / lots of mike work can also work well. Personally I use the mike. The more mike work, the less records I get to play - Everyone's happy Len
  3. Here's a good read on Car Boot finds - All the best, Len
  4. What a terrible noise Len
  5. Coincidentally, we have been discussing revisiting old topics for the reason I gave above, and those members who have joined since could add their views / enjoy the reads. As said, great that you have done so, and great if others could also flag any interesting / entertaining old threads they come across whist browsing Len
  6. Oh it was awful - What with me taking myself 'so seriously' back then - Thank the lord I can laugh at myself nowadays Len P.s - Good on you for going back on some old threads - There's been some great ones over the years / and lots of members who have joined since, would have missed them.
  7. Whatever you do - Don't read this link .....
  8. Crumbs don't do that! Just kidding - As mentioned, when ya done, whack your play list (Or some of it if doing so isn't your thing) on this thread as a matter of interest, and let us know how you got on. All the best, Len
  9. I personally don't like hearing a record more than once in one night, unless it's a sound that they are trying to 'break'. If so, bring it on - 4 times if ya like! If it happens with a well known great record, it's not a crime / and it doesn't ruin my night (The DJ may have been in another room when the said record had been played) But I wouldn't play a well known great record for the second time simply because someone wanted to hear it again. Sorry, not much advise ref the original question about your last spot - I'm still trying to suss it all out myself! All the best, Len
  10. Great tune! I'll be playing it at The Bury All-nighter on Boxing Day (In The Main Room this time) Have also played it in The Kenwood Suite at Bury, and it went down just fine Len
  11. "My name is Len, and I watch First Dates"
  12. Yes I watched this today - A great program on a wonderful man. Len
  13. I was more surprised at 'Reggie Soul - My World Of Ecstasy' being £400.00 (Although a lovely record) Len
  14. I'm sure I see lots out 'n' about I know, but don't realize who they are on here - People should wear Soul-source badges with their 'handle' on when out Len (Also known as Len) P.s - Still not got an answer to your original question - I haven't slept well all week because of it
  15. The Moments for me, but really to do with 'association' of memories of Jon Buck playing it at The Fleet Peterborough at my first All-nighters. Chuck Jackson great I know. All the best, Len
  16. Good question! You've made my head spin thinking about it. I may have an answer tomorrow......or the next day...... Len
  17. I always made 'the deal' crystal clear at the time of booking DJs. I'd ask what they charged / or suggested a figure, and I would have their wages ready in an envelope before the event started. Not hoping enough people turned up, if not, then saying sorry we didn't have enough people in - Financing an event has nothing to do with the DJs. All the best, Len
  18. Me and Nina found 'Chapter 5 - You Can't Mean it' (CBS White demo) at Turvey Car Boot Fair........"How much are your records love?"........"50p for the big ones, 20p for the small ones"....... All the best, Len
  19. Some should! Seriously though - no.....Although, I used to run a Thursday night event many moons ago, and I had to charge the punters £2.00, and the DJs £1.00 to cover the cost of the hall (Only one DJ moaned) In hindsight though, maybe I should have charged £2.50, and not charged the DJs. But this was a time when some were at School, or on young people's low wages - It was a very low key event, just somat to do in the week. Len
  20. It's certainly an 'off the wall' one, but works for me - I first heard it played by Max Rees, I thought my mate (Rupert Betts) was going to implode whilst dancing to it! Len
  21. I love 'Al Foster Band - The Night Of The Wolf'. Not heard it out for a years, except pleasantly surprised to hear it at The Bury All-nighter when Coops whacked it on! All the best, Len
  22. Hi Pete, I fully understand the selling then regretting it thing (We all do) Glad you have your friend back Have a good weekend folks. All the best, Len
  23. It used to be a little black book (I still have mine somewhere) Some ask, then take a quick photo (On their phones of course) The old memory is a problem for lots of us Len
  24. Yes I've also had personal messages asking about records, and even asking for full play lists (Believe it or not Ted!) Like you, I always oblige. Len
  25. It defo has a place on here, and is why I voted no, but didn't comment as to why, as I would not want to discourage play lists being posted - Others read them for various reasons other than focusing on just the 'night out' (As I do) I have put play lists up myself many times - In the past (like others) I did it to help promote events I was involved in running, and just recently a lad's mum (Sean) (('Rugby Soul Club' on here)) asked on his behalf if I would post one up after the he had heard me playing in The Kenwood Suite at The Bury All-nighter - I think it would have been ignorant of me not to oblige after he had taken an interest in what I was playing. All the best, Len
