  1. Yes I watched this today - A great program on a wonderful man. Len
  2. I was more surprised at 'Reggie Soul - My World Of Ecstasy' being £400.00 (Although a lovely record) Len
  3. I'm sure I see lots out 'n' about I know, but don't realize who they are on here - People should wear Soul-source badges with their 'handle' on when out Len (Also known as Len) P.s - Still not got an answer to your original question - I haven't slept well all week because of it
  4. The Moments for me, but really to do with 'association' of memories of Jon Buck playing it at The Fleet Peterborough at my first All-nighters. Chuck Jackson great I know. All the best, Len
  5. Good question! You've made my head spin thinking about it. I may have an answer tomorrow......or the next day...... Len
  6. I always made 'the deal' crystal clear at the time of booking DJs. I'd ask what they charged / or suggested a figure, and I would have their wages ready in an envelope before the event started. Not hoping enough people turned up, if not, then saying sorry we didn't have enough people in - Financing an event has nothing to do with the DJs. All the best, Len
  7. Me and Nina found 'Chapter 5 - You Can't Mean it' (CBS White demo) at Turvey Car Boot Fair........"How much are your records love?"........"50p for the big ones, 20p for the small ones"....... All the best, Len
  8. Some should! Seriously though - no.....Although, I used to run a Thursday night event many moons ago, and I had to charge the punters £2.00, and the DJs £1.00 to cover the cost of the hall (Only one DJ moaned) In hindsight though, maybe I should have charged £2.50, and not charged the DJs. But this was a time when some were at School, or on young people's low wages - It was a very low key event, just somat to do in the week. Len
  9. It's certainly an 'off the wall' one, but works for me - I first heard it played by Max Rees, I thought my mate (Rupert Betts) was going to implode whilst dancing to it! Len
  10. I love 'Al Foster Band - The Night Of The Wolf'. Not heard it out for a years, except pleasantly surprised to hear it at The Bury All-nighter when Coops whacked it on! All the best, Len
  11. Hi Pete, I fully understand the selling then regretting it thing (We all do) Glad you have your friend back Have a good weekend folks. All the best, Len
  12. It used to be a little black book (I still have mine somewhere) Some ask, then take a quick photo (On their phones of course) The old memory is a problem for lots of us Len
  13. Yes I've also had personal messages asking about records, and even asking for full play lists (Believe it or not Ted!) Like you, I always oblige. Len
  14. It defo has a place on here, and is why I voted no, but didn't comment as to why, as I would not want to discourage play lists being posted - Others read them for various reasons other than focusing on just the 'night out' (As I do) I have put play lists up myself many times - In the past (like others) I did it to help promote events I was involved in running, and just recently a lad's mum (Sean) (('Rugby Soul Club' on here)) asked on his behalf if I would post one up after the he had heard me playing in The Kenwood Suite at The Bury All-nighter - I think it would have been ignorant of me not to oblige after he had taken an interest in what I was playing. All the best, Len
  15. I can’t Mike - I’m a Moderator, I may get sacked if I say I don’t really do play lists! Oh dear, I suppose it’s too late now, so here goes…… I voted no, although I am not completely against them - I do understand the interest side of things / what others are playing / where they’re playing them etc, and of course people can learn about new sounds from play lists. But for me - I am focussed on the ‘night out’, so I have the view that a play list can’t tell me how good a venue is, and think you need to be there to appreciate a record being played ‘in context’ You may well see a pretty predictable record on a play list, and ‘shrug’ (heard it before yawn), but on the actual night, that record may well have really hit the spot!…….And on the other hand, you may see a really interesting / creative / 'rare' play list, yet the actual night (or spot) being pretty poor. …….Except for the ‘Top 5’ thread of course as that’s different (What’s happening ‘at a glance’ kinda thang) All the best, Len
  16. I think 'time off in the summer' was something that happened everywhere, and it makes sense - Apart from people doing other things in the summer months, it helps keep people 'keen' (Less is more) Also, we all have various reasons for not 'hitting it hard' as we used to (having young children, work etc) I do hope that The 100 Club (the best club ever) has a second (or third or fourth) 'wind' - It's in the heart of London, so hopefully it has a good chance of a new generation gradually taking our place / and allowing us to visit in our old age just to absorb the new electric young atmosphere It has to be said though - The 100 Club is still blo*dy good! And it does attract a good amount of young people. Ady is only being aware of the numbers through the door, and acting accordingly (This thinking should help matters) All the best, Len
  17. I voted 'all of the above' because I feel nowadays a 'team effort' is needed to give an event a better chance of being successful. 'People running the event' obviously have to spread the word as much as poss / 'People playing the event' (DJs) could (not should) spread the word to those they know that would like the type of event / 'Like minded people' should tell others if they believe in the event, so as to help the longevity of somewhere they like attending / and I suppose even the venue itself could do a bit to get a few more bodies in, unless you wanted to keep local non soulie types away (Which always used to be the case) Nowadays is definitely different All the best, Len
  18. And that is why I hired you my friend - "Empty dance floors rule ok!" I know lots of times people reminisce about a certain record being '3 Bob' back in the day etc, I remember ringing up after 'The Limitations' on several occasions in those days Dave, and it was actually £25.00 back then - I never managed to bag it until some years later though. Len
  19. Yeh 'The Limitations' was £150.00 not long ago.....or maybe it was 'long ago', I dunno, I'm getting old - A very good record though Len
  20. I sold my 'In Orbit' demo to a friend for 50p - It went to a good home Len
  21. My top 5 from the weekend - ‘The Parliaments - Heart Trouble’. Played by Andy Dyson in the main room at The Bury All-nighter - It really ‘hit the spot’ ‘Enchantments - I'm In Love With Your Daughter’. Played by Denny Johnson in the main room at the Bury All-nighter. Again, just ‘hit the spot’ (A great DJ is Denny) ‘Jackie Beavers - Come back my love’. Played by Gibby in The Kenwood Suite at The Bury All-nighter. ‘Billy Stewart - Count Me Out’. Played by Simon Ingham in The Kenwood Suite at The Bury All-nighter. ‘Tommy Frontera - (You're My) Leading Lady’. Played by me in The Kenwood Suite at The Bury All-nighter. Nothing ‘super new’ on my list, but sometimes a record just sounds so right All the best, Len
  22. Cheers Rod - A job well done! Happy retirement Len
  23. I've always liked the 'Northern Soul Mumble', never understood a word, but always liked it! Len
  24. 'twas a pleasant evening, some beautiful sounds played, and not forgetting Gilly's impromptu spot which was most enjoyable Here's my choices. All the best, Len Ray Gant & Arabian Knights - Don't Leave Me Baby - Jay-Walking The Sophisticates - I Need You - Mutt The DeVons - Wise Up And Be Smart - Mr G Regina Sherard - Helpless Baby - King The Ster-phonics - Don't Leave Me - Mas-Tok Barbara Greene - Young Boy - Rennee Juan Williams - I Check My Mail Box Every Day - Blue Soul The Jelly Beans - I'm Hip To You - Esk Frank Howard - Judy - Excello Clara Wood - You're After My Guy - Imperial The Darlings - Two Time Loser - Kay-Ko
  25. Oh sorry - I read ' Something old someone new' as being a new DJ just playing tunes that are already being played Ok, yeh definitely someone new if they have their own 'take' on things gets my vote, even if their inexperience makes them 'wobble' every so often, it would still make the night interesting - Good luck to the poor soul this may relate to! Hope I haven't confused your thread! Len
