  1. Sort of - My neighbor now knows a lot of my tunes. Well mostly......"I enjoy when you play your records Len, but you never play them to the end!"....... (Too keen to get the next one on) Len
  2. An auction record was pretty scarce 20 - 25 years ago. You would see one or two on a record list only every so often. Agree, it's surprising to see some records up for auction - But in the defense of the sellers, it must work, and they're not a charity, they're doing just as I do with metal work - I get as much as I possibly can (That's not greed, just business) Len
  3. To me 'eddiefoster', what makes a good set, is individual creative thinking in ref to what someone chooses to play, playing them 'in context', so connecting with the dancers / listeners. "Wow haven't heard this for years!" (etc) Len P.s - Playing SOUL music helps
  4. 'Caus he cared Chalky
  5. Dave Greet at Life-line some years back - I think every single one of his choices got a huge cheer / round of applause! Len
  6. Hi Neal, From a financial perspective, I think now is a pretty good time, and I'm sure lots will agree, some records you can't put a price on now because there are buyers about that will pay good money and some for something they want that is hardly ever seen up for sale. But it's not all about the money! Although one has to be able to afford to keep a collection if some items are worth a lot. As in, if you need something to live, it's silly sitting on a record (Although fully understandable of course) I've thought about selling, but just can't do it (yet). I do so when I haven't played my records for a while because of being busy with other things (Family, work etc). I wonder if I would miss them after not playing them for (what seems) so long. Then one evening I whack on a tune, then another, then another....It then makes complete sense NOT TO SELL! Hope that helps All the best, Len
  7. Hi Stephen, If you click 'Following' (top right of page) ((Although now you have posted you automatically 'follow' anyway)) You should now get a notification if someone adds a post - If you click on that notification, you will autocratically be sent to that last post (rather than to the beginning of the thread) Hope that helps. All the best, Len
  8. Doh! Great record! Len
  9. Edit - Now sorted. If anyone has ‘Paul Smith - I’ll Run' (Jacklyn) Let me know please. Thanks! Len
  10. Pete's reffering to Face Book Moderators - We're far more tolerant here This thread's going a bit 'off-topic', with talk of cutting machines / what is Northern Soul? etc but hey ho Len
  11. Someone got a good deal on 'Frank Howard - Judy' (It ended at £112.00) A fantastic record, and quite a hard one I think. Len
  12. Hi Mick, I've seen you DJ on many occasions, and your style of no talking / mixing them in, works well - I've also seen DJs try to do the same, but for some reason (the 'magic') it ends up being background music. At that point, I wish they would 'break it' with a bit of chat, even if just to say what they're playing. If the floors going well, then fine, but if nothing's happening, a quick comment can do wonders. Again, depending on the people there (We all have different personalities) Your own style is the key I suppose. I think we've gone somewhat 'off-topic' 'heartandsoulktf' hey ho Len
  13. I generally talk every 3 records, depending on what I'm playing (and on the people there) And I talk fast, so no one understands a word anyway Len
  14. I can understand that. But to me, using the mike isn't 'out' dated. If a DJ is shouting maybe about what he paid for said tune or something, then that can come across a bit wrong, but if they're genuinely passionate about what they're saying, that will come across as a positive. Len
  15. Yes good point (s) It is useful for something to be introduced / or named after it's played, if it's a tune not widely known. No mike work doesn't mean just plonking on one tune after the other with no thought. Sometimes a room doesn't embrace lot's of mike work, whereas other times, the ol' chit chat can help the atmos. Len
  16. No mike work can work well / lots of mike work can also work well. Personally I use the mike. The more mike work, the less records I get to play - Everyone's happy Len
  17. Here's a good read on Car Boot finds - All the best, Len
  18. What a terrible noise Len
  19. Coincidentally, we have been discussing revisiting old topics for the reason I gave above, and those members who have joined since could add their views / enjoy the reads. As said, great that you have done so, and great if others could also flag any interesting / entertaining old threads they come across whist browsing Len
  20. Oh it was awful - What with me taking myself 'so seriously' back then - Thank the lord I can laugh at myself nowadays Len P.s - Good on you for going back on some old threads - There's been some great ones over the years / and lots of members who have joined since, would have missed them.
  21. Whatever you do - Don't read this link .....
  22. Crumbs don't do that! Just kidding - As mentioned, when ya done, whack your play list (Or some of it if doing so isn't your thing) on this thread as a matter of interest, and let us know how you got on. All the best, Len
  23. I personally don't like hearing a record more than once in one night, unless it's a sound that they are trying to 'break'. If so, bring it on - 4 times if ya like! If it happens with a well known great record, it's not a crime / and it doesn't ruin my night (The DJ may have been in another room when the said record had been played) But I wouldn't play a well known great record for the second time simply because someone wanted to hear it again. Sorry, not much advise ref the original question about your last spot - I'm still trying to suss it all out myself! All the best, Len
  24. Great tune! I'll be playing it at The Bury All-nighter on Boxing Day (In The Main Room this time) Have also played it in The Kenwood Suite at Bury, and it went down just fine Len
