There's certainly plenty of 'DJs' out there - I think it a shame that there's not many that have real 'pull' as far as attracting lots of people to an event nowadays. That's defo something that has changed. Len

I was drawn to 'Otis Lee' as it seemed so different at that time - I still love it, but have had my 'fill' Len

Welcome all new members & the latest one Tracey - Short and sweet! Feel free to add to the various forums. Enjoy! All the best, Len

Have to agree - It used to be a 'must play'. That said, lots who didn't hear it years ago will be enjoying it just the same All the best, Len P.s - What ever happened to 'Vanguards - Good Times Bad Times'? Now that got absolutely hammered (Never to be heard again!)

There's one for sale on the link below if anyone wants one - £1,000.00 All the best, Len

Oh sorry Ed, I miss-understood. Was gonna say - If there's £80,000.00 profit to be made at each event, no wonder there's so many on! Millionaires the lot of em All the best, Len

I believe in paying the DJs even if you are making a loss (DJ's can decide whether to take it or not) All the best, Len

Not sure how they get £80k profit when 900 x £40 = £36,000.00 But on a serious note - If a quality event makes the promoter some profit, good luck to em. As has been said, lots of events bl*eding everywhere, so to actually make a profit nowadays is one heck of an achievement! All the best, Len

I think if people stop 'chasing their tails' (Guilty as charged btw), as in, stop hoping it will be the same as they once remembered (When you were young, and all was so exciting) one can get great enjoyment, just a different enjoyment that's all. That said, I don't like the way the Scene is. 'Starbucks Northern Soul' - Every town has one (and some) But hey ho, that's the way it is, and there's nothing we can do about it. As for 'big names' not pulling crowds, I agree - Maybe if they were only available at the major All-nighters, that would have made a difference, but most of the DJs (kindly has to be said) play almost anywhere, so people don't need to travel to see 'a Soul Sam'. Interesting to reflect on it all every 5 years or so. I now except my best times are over, and don't feel the need to do it every weekend, but when I do, I can now make the most of it - The music still moves me thank god! All the best, Len

I can't remember where I went last weekend - But it was a heavy one! Bit of a slow burner this thread, but good to hear from people as to what they got up to at the weekend on here, as well as reading reviews on separate event's threads All the best, Len

Articles: Pete Lawson 1984 Letter To Blackbeat
Len replied to Steve G's topic in Front Page News & Articles
Whereas I admire his superiority complex. I wouldn’t have the nerve to actually admit that I think I’m superior to some purely based on their awful music taste. Len -
Well it's been 'weddings, weddings, weddings' for me of late - What is the matter with people?! This weekend gone, I was Best Man, and a 'Whiskey' prank I played went so much better than expected - Almost to the point of it back firing! I was downing huge measures of this bottle of 'Whiskey' as I was wading through my speech, but even after my first gulp, I could feel the slight 'comfortableness' in the room.......After I sank a few more, the wife (Nina) gave me daggers, and lipped....."No more"..... from the top table - At that point I had to cut the joke short, letting everyone know that it was in actual fact Peach Ice Tea Apparently my daughter was saying....."I don't want Daddy to get drunk"......(She could see how worried mum was) You can see the relieved look on her face in one of the photos below. Hopefully other posts on this thread will be 'Soul related' All the best, Len 'The Whiskey' 'Me' 'The Family' (A happy daughter, oh, and wife) 'A photo I used to embarrass the Groom right of pic' (From one of his trips to The Blackpool Mecca) 'My Son Bailey and me' (Getting in to 'The Wedding spirit')

Around the time I first heard you / and Gary Spencer play it (Which influenced me to get one) I know a few people who have this (4 DJs in 'The Kenwood Suite' alone for a start) ((Bob H, Simon I, Matt S, and myself)) Fetches big bucks now because (as mentioned) it's a 'keeper', so not for sale that often. 'Keepers' are more frustrating than 'Rareers' as you know there are copies about, 'squirreled' away in various collections... Len

Oh no they're not! Happy hunting Len

Both lovely records - Just in case you don't know this, the other side to 'Sandy Golden - When We're All Alone Tonight' is also beautiful. Enjoy! All the best, Len 'Sandy Golden - When We're All Alone Tonight'

Kyp - A great guy, see him regular at 'The Bury All-nighter'. Remember him from Huntingdon do's / Leeds All-nighters and local events during the 90's. lost a lot of weight recently, but still the same old 'Kyp' - Used to hang with 'Johnny Fingers' A great bloke! Len
-
Of course Mark S - 'Slipknot' rules in our house! Len

The wife (Nina) and I were sitting at a table at The Ritz All-nighter, Ginger walked past us........(Nina) "Is that Ginger Taylor?"........(Me) "Yeh I think so, he certainly looks like a Taylor".......Nina 'rolled', and couldn't stop laughing for ages! (A 'had to be there' story I suppose) Glad this thread's still going - Great to see you all 'face to face' as it were. All the best, Len

That's the spirit! All the best, Len

Hi Mick, I've spoken to many people about The 100 Club over the years, and fully except that it is a place one either absolutely loves, or not! As you saw, it isn't your 'huge hall' nighter that lots do prefer, more a 'club' feel that doesn't suit some people. And as has been said, being the capital, it does attract some you don't want there, but Ady does try to keep a tab on this. I'm in the love it side, but also love the 'huge hall' nighters of course. (The Christmas p*ss up is exactly what it says on the tin) All the best, Len

Great weren't they? Len
