I always read these 'too many events' threads, and feel your pain (Well I used to) The word 'embarrassing' has been used, and it is - I don't care how good the music may be somewhere, if there's just a handful of us old men kicking around, I find it 'embarrassing', and don't want a part of it when it's like that. I thought I'd past caring, but now you have me caring again - Yeh thanks for that! Len

It's a great record though (Well I thought so).......Many moons ago, I DJed at a place called 'North Park' in Kettering, busy night (as they always were back then) I stuck it on, and completely cleared the floor (I think that's the point this 'pattern' started for me) Anyway, I was shocked / mortified / devastated, and to be honest, almost in tears (being so young) Then this bloke leaned over the decks...."Oy mate, was it you that played Curtis?".....I 'admitted' it to him (still in bits).....He held his hand out (for a shake), and said....."F*cking nice one!"........It was almost as if he was sticking his fingers up to everyone else in the room! (Another 'moment' I will never forget) Slightly off-topic, but a nice story I guess. Len

Thanks to your 'awareness', he's probably still on the scene. Len

The ‘Soul Police’ Rule! Is it a snob thing? - Yes! The ‘Soul Police’ are an organisation that tries to keep the standards up (The law) People seem to think this scene shouldn’t have ‘elitism’, but sorry it’s always been there, and is a part of youth culture that this scene ‘polarizes’. You have to respect this scene from your day one - If you don’t the Soul Police will clamp down on you! (Well they used to) Example - I was at an event when I was a mere 14 year old, and my mates were acting like a load of D*ck Heads on the dance floor. This older lad came over to us and said……”If you lot don’t pipe down, I’ll take you all outside and give you a good hiding!”……I was devastated, as I knew they were being stupid. I sat down with my mates and felt really awkward about what had gone on. This older lad must have noticed, and came over to me. He placed his hand on my shoulder, and said…..”Mate, I know it wasn’t you, it was your mates, you’re alright”…….Winked, and walked off. I’ve never forgotten it. Even at that young age, I had begun to work out that there was a way of conducting myself, having respect for this scene, and those before me. I’m not sure of this ‘PCs’ name, but he was right to put them in their place - They were lucky they didn’t get arrested! / or smacked in the face… Unless anyone else has a different interpretation of what 'The Soul Police' is All the best, Len

Not that I particularly like the derogatory term 'Handbaggers', I do fully understand it being used by people that have been on the scene for a good while, disillusioned at (in their mind) it's demise - It's not what it once was for them. Some people say things that they think are 'the thing to say', and if the person who said this to Stephen Houghton (the starter of this thread) was quite young, as is amusingly indicated in the third post - Just take it with a pinch of salt / ignore it. The second post (from Stevie) sums up how some people do feel, yet eloquently acknowledges that the scene still gives others much enjoyment. And rather than being bitter, I expect focuses on the fantastic memories this scene has provided (You'll have them however you 'did it') So, if you're still doing this thing weekend after weekend - Good for you! All the best, Len P.s - Like em or not - We need policing

Yes mate - 5 nights Santa Monica, then 12 nights Florida. It's so nice to be able to take my family, what with the kids fast growing an' all that (Son Bailey 13 / Daughter Tabitha 10) I feel very privileged to be able to spend record money on this sort of thing, rather than having to sell to feed the kids as it were Len
-
Yes it (finally) gets noticed, others follow, which pushes up the price of the tune ('In demand') Len

I think it's already started to gradually slide. I predict in five years time lots of people will need to sell to top up their (lack of) pensions, and they will be disappointed when they all do it at the same time. It's had it's final 'resurgence' I think... This will be a positive for us on the whole though Back on topic - A lot of records are 'keepers', so are sometimes described as rare, as in rarely available. All the best, Len

Apologies for delays in getting back to anyone - Believe it or not, I try to steer clear of Soul-source at weekends Thanks again for all the interest, but not thanks for persuading me to sell anything that wasn't even for sale! I have up-dated my list again, which includes a few reductions - I don't really want to reduce any much more, but if struggling still make me an offer (I'm easy to deal with) All the best, Len

Thanks guys - I'll dig it out tonight and put a pic up for your perusal. Sorry to take over your thread swaggy (A bit of advertising for ya) Len

Hello mate, Nice record. Not sale related, so please forgive me - Do you know if there was a look-a-like pressing made of this? I have one, for some reason I have always thought this so. All the best, Len
-
Edit - Should have been a PM. Sorry about that. Len

I've just up-dated my list - Thanks to everyone for the sales so far. Being a record dealer is exhausting! Give me welding any day All the best, Len
-
Ha ha - I do the same! Len

All possible - I have kind of given up the search after looking again this weekend - It may even have fallen down between the floor boards before we got the carpet fitted Len

Not that I should be saying this having only just put a sales list up today. But I was talking with the Mrs (Nina) the other morning about it all, as selling any records is hard for me. We were laughing about the fact records are now obsolete, but we all refuse to acknowledge it because we have invested so many years in to collecting the damn things (Myself also being 'guilty as charged') Scenario......"Let me play you this top tune".......It's ok Len, I have it on my phone, I can play it through your speaker on Blue Tooth"......."No, no, I have it here somewhere"........"Hang on"........."Um"........"Len, just let me play it on my phone!"......"No! Just wait a minute"........"Jeeeze"......."Ah found it!"....."Hang on, I'll just get it out of the double cover"........ We had video tapes, then we had DVDs, we now have film down-loads - Has anyone still got their 'Original' Videos? 'Tin Hat' time he he All the best, Len
-
Oh god - I chucked a load of old covers out whilst going through! Maybe my record is now on a dump somewhere - Hey ho, they'll all be there in 20 years time, as even the second hand shops won't want them Len

Hi Guyz, I’ve now had a bit of a sort out. I’m not ‘selling up’ persee, so I think this will be it for now. I’m just letting a few go to raise funds for a family holiday (Not that that is of any interest to anyone whatsoever) I’m not 100% sure on proper condition grading, as I understand some collectors like this absolutely spot on - Suffice to say, all are in ‘pretty damn good’ condition, except for the ‘Bobby Reed’ which has some label damage. We can talk condition / send photos if required via PM as and when people take an interest in buying something. Goes without saying really - All have a money back guarantee if not satisfied with a purchase. Please no comments ref these prices on this thread - These are my prices, and will be confidential between myself and the buyer if any need negotiating to ‘seal a deal’. So if you fancy anything but it is a bit out of your price range / or you think my price is a bit out, I don’t mind sensible offers. I hope you find something of interest, and get as much enjoyment out of them as I have. So, ‘without further ado’ here’s a few for your perusal. It hasn't left the house since I got given the alternative version for my 40th Birthday over 8 years ago. But thanks for thoughts. Yes, I'm keeping notes of what I have sold just last week - Defo good idea for future ref Len

Well that gives me some hope Len

Hiya - They are all over the place I'm afraid Except that the top shelf is the oldest of my buys, and it goes down from there - I know which shelf it lives on, so went through that one several times before hunting through the others a couple of times. On my search I have been playing tunes that haven't seen the light of day for years though, so that's been a positive I have to say. Fingers crossed it turns up at some point, and noted ref looking to see if I have put two in the same cover - I often end up with spare covers after a session. Also, mates are sometimes pretty rubbish at putting back records in the same place. One even puts them back the wrong way round sometimes, which I find very hard to cope with If it does decide to come home, I will let you know - Here's to a happy ending All the best, Len

Brilliant - I hope so mate Len

Help With Lost Record... I’m currently sorting a few records to sell to raise funds for a family holiday, and I thought to myself…..”Mmmmmm ‘Pat and the Blenders - Just Because’ goes for decent money, I’ll let that go I think”…… Can I find it? No! Honestly, I have spent the last few evenings racing through my shelves, and repeating in case I’ve gone past it, but it really seems to be ‘missing in action’. Firstly - If anyone who knows me remembers me selling or trading it, please remind me to put me out of this misery. But I’m sure I’m not at the Alzheimer’s stage just yet - I would have remembered! Of course the dark thoughts of someone I’ve trusted has ‘lifted’ it from me creep in, but I can’t go there. If that has happened, well - Sad b*stard is all I can say….. Secondly - Has anyone else been through similar? As in, convinced you have lost a record, and it turns up somewhere you would never dream of - I know what after parties can be like records strewn everywhere! I need to make light of this for my own sanity. All the best, Len ‘Just Because’ Dopson

Oh, and to not hear 'Of Hopes Dreams And Tombstones' in 2019 I hope you have a better 2019 Simon. Len
