  1. Doh! That's my bid gone (Doubled) Len
  2. I'm gonna have a punt on the auction for 'The Sweets' with the thinking that most people will think there's no chance, so won't bother bidding Not got a clue what it's worth in today's market (Yeh I know, what I am prepared to pay) Can't see my bid winning, but auctions can surprise. BEAUTIFUL tune. Len
  3. Good idea - Funnily enough, I drove past 'my' old record shop just yesterday, and commented to the Mrs that it was a shame that it had been boarded up and closed years ago. I visited Martin's Record Shop (Oxford Street, Wellingborough) every Sat morning for years when I was a younun' Len
  4. £400.00 maybe - Don't quote me on it though! Great record! Len
  5. Lots of events are are far too light anyway - Blo*dy health and safety 'in case of fire' guide lights etc. Kills the atmosphere. Sorry, another subject all together, but it annoys me. I don't want to be able to see the people on the opposite side of the hall - 'Dark and dingy' is what is needed Ok - Back on topic please Len
  6. Amazing prices - When's it gonna end?! Len
  7. I'm not sure if there's a suitable venue that big - Basically you mean a venue 5 times the size of current All-nighter venues, along with a dance floor of that size ratio. Sywell Aerodrome here in Northants has a great Aircraft Hanger venue. It's huge, but with a poxy small dance floor in the middle, and loads of carpet for tables and chairs - If you could sort the dance floor, it would be a fantastic Weekender venue. It has several rooms, lovely surroundings, and an Art Deco Bar and Hotel (We could do with another weekender) If there is a venue of such size, the problem would be getting thousands of people there. Btw - I think there is some sort of festival type thing planned next year somewhere (Not sure of the details) All the best, Len
  8. Mace played a different version to 'Cajun Hart' in the 80's. Not sure if it was the Geoffrey Meteliko version (It didn't seem so 'cheesy' if I remember rightly) A long time ago, so could have been it. Len
  9. There's me just about to write Nina's card..... Len
  10. There are some DJs that I rate / some I don't so much (In the nicest possible way I hasten to add) I just enjoy what they do.....'OVO' this 'OVO' that - I have less time for 'Mr Souless' who just happens to have all the original 'top tunes' 'The End' Len
  11. Or don't mention 'OVO' ever again! (We never used to) Len
  12. You may have meant pictures, but look at most live concerts nowadays, there's a 'herd' of tablets / phones being held up filming it, which I think takes something away from the whole experience. Len
  13. You're right - And they miss the actual 'live' experience. Len
  14. Yeh sorry about that - I'll practice some more before I set my camera up again Len
  15. Maybe - But that exposure also bought some 'stayers' to our Scene Len
  16. I've nothing against people sketching as that is not intrusive - I expect you're sat in a corner scribbling away, not bothering anyone. During the war, my great granddad caught a rare illness that made him have to constantly sketch - He had been struck down by the Doodlebug Len
  17. Although I will make the effort occasionally, it's not as near as much as I used to - Kids growing fast / business to run so need to be 'tip top', as well as not wanting to constantly go over the same old ground again and again (I do miss that feeling of it being the most important thing in my life though) We have the music at home of course, but nothing beats doing it as I used to. Presently no longer 'a way of life' for me that's all Len
  18. Lets make us all feel ok, and simply put the dancing down to age (For those that haven't seen this) There is a second lot of footage of the same club some Ten years later, but this was done interdependently by a regular punter (Keith Jones) Not on his phone mind as it still wasn't the time of every man and his dog filming from their phones. It's a bit wobbly, but it 'documents' it pretty well. Sorry if hijacking this thread, thought be of interest to some......Goes without saying, there was not 'Nine soul events within a Ten mile radius' this night - Promoters really did work together back then Len
  19. Yes I think 'document' is the word (Like photos used to be when you only had 24 in a film) Some really nice interviews with various people getting across what the scene and the music meant to them. Len
  20. 'Kick, clap, drop, spin' See you on the other thread... Len
  21. Back in the 90s I hired a professional to make a promotional video of my event. I instructed his assistant to interview people outside or in a separate room, I also explained that I did not want the big light on hardly at all, and he did keep that to an absolute minimum - They were good at what they did, and didn't really intrude on the night at all. These were the days before You Tube / Everyone wanting to be famous, and although I was apprehensive about doing this for reasons you have all given above, I am glad I did, as all these years later it is something to look back on for some folk - Not least seeing friends sadly now lost enjoying life. Everyone with a camera as it is nowadays is awful, whether it be taking photos or videoing, and something that really is a 'no no' on our scene. Although I do appreciate there are some photographers that respect how people feel, and try to be discrete when taking pics Here it is - Len
  22. Don't worry about all that mate - You have made a valid point. And you haven't actually named that particular event, the discussion refers to lots of events as it were. Keep it coming, you never know, doing so may do some good Len
  23. I think it wise for you not to name the event as that would be unfair to them - Filming of events usually does nothing for the atmos that may be there, it's very hard to get that across on film / and the filming may be simply an empty part of an otherwise pretty busy room. I've been to events (Again not naming them) many times over the years, where I have thought to myself 'What's the point?' They may as well just have a record session round someone's house for the amount of people there / Or of course - Just attend another event and add to their numbers through the door. DO THE MATH! All the best, Len
