  7. Hi, Yes! Absolutely love it. I used to play it at The Embankment Club. Don't remember it at the Twisted Wheel as I think I was having my nappy changed at that time . It is on Verve and is available on single. Len.
  8. By the way, imo, I can't see the point of c/ups nowadays.

  12. See Roger Banks. He's got 100's. Len.
  13. Hi Baz, I think this info is more relevant to local people rather than of 'National interest' ie not sure it was worthy of the front page especially as it knocked the 100 Club news off...Just a thought mate. Len.
  14. 'The Wellingborough Soul Club' Dear Soulies, Well the Northern Soul Bubble hasn't burst yet, but I think you'll agree most soul nights are suffering in attendance due to the shear amount of choice these days. Why do so many people want to promote eh? Friday 6 April 2007, (Easter bank holiday weekend!) is The Wellingborough Soul Club's 13th Anniversary. This years gift is a 29 track rare soul C.D, all recorded from original vinyl. I hope you like it. If you don't, play it again, if you still don't ...you need help! This will be a busy night. DJ's are Mick H, Dave Vanner, Roger Banks, Jon Buck (R.S.G) and myself. Sadly though this will be the last one... The Embankment club has always attracted about 130 people who really appreciate the music policy, plus about 50 punters that aren't bothered about musical differences between venues. It's some of these 50 that have been lost because they are catered for so much by too many events. Also, Embankment regulars will know the screens that separated the record dealers / bar area from the dance floor have now been taken away which completely changes the whole set up of the room and makes a traditional, wooden floored dance hall now seem like St Paul's Cathedral and too big for an intimate 'rare' soul night. It's been said recently that an "oldies" night would ram the punters in to the rafters, but numbers were never the driving force behind the Embankment. It's always been the music and I'm proud to say that in 13 years our DJs have never chased the dance floor but have provided the country's rare soul fans with a friendly, welcoming venue which catered for them. We've had great times over the last 13 years. The soul nights at the Embankment have actually been going for 15 years but I changed the promotional name to The Wellingborough Soul Club after about 2 years, (blimey that video was 10 years ago!). People have visited from all over the country including many quality DJ's. We are proud to have introduced new sounds to the area as not everyone gets to places like The 100 Club to hear them. This final night will be special, it will be great to see all our old friends and supporters in the same hall, on the same night. So come and 'have a ball' with us and celebrate being part of the country's longest running soul night ever. Thanks for supporting The Wellingborough Soul Club! See you all on Friday 6th April. Len 'n' Nina. P.S - heard the 100 Club news just before we went to print...bloody hell!

  16. I thought there would be loads of posts about this...But I think most people are speachless. Far too many cliche's etc. Yes defo a huge dent in the changing world of 'Northern Soul' Best of luck for the future of 6t's Rythm and Soul Ady, Len.
  17. OK! Sorry about that statement. I'm with you on the 'O.V.O' policy for myself. If others do differently we can moan but it ain't going to stop them. Len.
  18. Mainly according to many people who have spoken of Brian over the years, they tell me he was a main player in the early days of the Scene. So in a way has 'Done his time' and got nothing to prove. I don't know him personally but see him as one one of the originals...A bit like the queen can eat swan snd we can't! Does that make sense?!!!
  19. Me again Win! The simple answer is ...As respect for the collecting side of the scene and to keep our scene 'Special' Anything can be played Vinyl OR cd as long it is that particular sounds original format. If I liked a track which was only on cd I'd put it on an acitate simply because I find it easier to DJ with records... As long as a soul night 'does what it says on the tin' it can play any format it likes. This way if you are against cd's even at small local events you don't have to go. Here's a question. Do you think Brian Ray is entitled to play cd's? I personally think he is the only exception to the rule... Len.
  20. Good man Jem. Ref 'The great Northern Soul Apprenticeship'....Baz is probably in his second year, I'm hoping to be in the sixth form next year and I recon Gibby will have to come back to do re-takes!!! See you Friday at The Embankment Club. Plug...Plug...Plug...
  21. ...as i have already said i can understand Baz and Lenny being p****d, i would be....but sometimes its better just to rise above the situation and not enter into a slagging match....just find the whole thing very negative for the local scene......Jem Didn't bother me Jem...Just surprised me when I heard about it. In fact I feel pity for people without open minds as they are missing out on some great tracks. Len.
  22. Blimey!!! I was just checking if the Embankment had some interest for Friday!!! It's like the fox hunting argument (Oldies v's newies) Just as heated and just as old. Barry Looker actually appologised to me after Gibby's comments on the mike...It was news to me as I was so busy dancing and enjoying the oldies I didn't hear him...(I get the best from both worlds!) In a word, with ref to all this Jem, yes it's about respect and costructive critism. I'd be interested in Gibby's comments if they weren't on the mike. In fact someone tell him he is welcome at The Embankment this Friday and if he fancies coming without the "blinkers" he can come in on the guest list. Ref cd's. Again it's a matter of opiniun. In Jacks defence when he started these 'OTHER WELLINGBOROUGH SOUL NIGHTS' I explained to him that he should write on the poster that cd's are played. He took this 'Constructive' Critisism and actually thanked me. Anyway see you all at The Embankment Friday...And no fighting or you'll have me to deal with. Len.
