  1. Hi Chalky, As you know, there's no 'might' about it, I would put money on it that Spike would be pleasantly surprised...ok, I'll give him his entrance fee back if he doesn't enjoy it - You can't keep dishing out! lol That's the trouble, miss informed judgements. As I mentioned in my earlier posts I didn't go to The 100 Club for years due to trusting some one else's judgement and now I look back, the folk that gave me their opinons never actually went! So the message here really is that it's always best to try something for yourself. Spike, you would be welcomed, so why not give it a go at least once mate? All the best, Len. p.s - If you do want your entrance money back, I'm the one with the bald head (Honest!)
  2. - I bet you know / remember a lot about records though aye?! Len.
  3. Yes, with a capital 'Y' !!! All the best, Len.
  4. Hi Mark, Not sure what the name calling is all about but just ignore it - Your a top bloke mate. All the best, Len. p.s - If it was a 'Man Bag' - Well that's different! ...(I actually have one of those, it was a present - If that's any defence! )
  5. Yep, agree - Great idea. Len.
  6. Well, I recon he would...If he don't, after Chalky has given him his entrance money back, I'll give you your entrance money back...But if he does like it? well that's up to you - A pint of lager will do me! - Is that a bet mate? If you like soul music, you'll like Life-line. Len.
  7. p.s - Loved the flyer showing 8p entrance fee for two ref The Torch in 1971 - I would of been one years old! lol Len.
  8. Some great tracks there mate and some great photos! - Is that John Vincent and and Soul Sam in one?!!! Well I recon you would love Life-line, give it a try and if you don't like it Chalky can give you your entrance fee back! lol - I don't think you would regret a visit for one moment. All the best, Len.
  9. Good post that sums it up nicely Andy. I sat on this thread starter for quite some time as I was worried it may back fire on me and I wouldn’t be able to go out again! - I’m so glad you all understood what I was getting at. Ref not listening which was mentioned in an earlier post, I’m guilty of this myself - Since going to Burnley I’ve got to appreciate some Good R’n’B - ‘O.V Wright - Love The Way You Love’, ‘Anne Peebles - 99lbs’ to name just a couple (Thanks to Willies C.D’s!) I was careful not to mention any particular venue but it was inevitable that Life-line was going to be mentioned. The D.J’s Life-line use are not at the top of their game for nothing, they have about 100 years experience each and so much to offer, I hope some of the ‘1500’ will at least give the ‘Upfront’ side of things a go sometime. To conclude in the words of Randy Cozens, “This thing of ours” - It’s great, let’s keep it that way. All the best, Len. P.s - I’ve just been dancing round the kitchen with my three year old daughter Tabitha to ‘Young Brothers - What’s Your Name’ F*ckin’ great! That’s what it’s all about! :O)
  10. Hi Steve, In my experience, the "oldies only" people have been very vocal, but that's another story (Or three! lol) But your right, not on here. I enjoy 'both' scenes and look forward to Stevie's 'Inbetweeny' scene developing - Then we can have a debate about that too lol All the best, Len.
  11. Damn right mate - The soul events in my Kitchen are awesome, the beers cheap to! lol Len.
  12. Yep, that's exactly what I was trying to get at Win (Hence the rather strong title) All the best, Len.
  13. Maybe it is time to close the thread (Not sure how to actually) But let’s see if anyone wants to add anything that’s not already been said. This wasn’t intended to go over old ground and I think there’s been some interesting posts. Never the twain shall meet aye? What a shame, as to me both sorts of venue have lots to offer, most folk who attend upfront events also enjoy oldies events and I think the folk who only attend oldies events (Some of the 1500) would most definitely enjoy the more upfront events. All the best, Len.
  14. AB'SOUL'UTELY!!! All the best, Len.
  15. Doh! - Forgot I had a customer on Soul-source - Just been telling Val how busy I am, so need to delay the delivery of his Metal Trolley's - Caught red handed! lol Tomorrow Val, honest! Len.
  16. Hi Carms, Everyone should feel they can say what they like and you’ve given your personal view , nothing wrong in that. I think comments about the way people dress are done tongue in cheek but I agree there’s no need for it. My original post was to find out why the difference in attendance and as I said, I have heard - ref to stuff like ’No compromise’ folk say - “It puts us off going” Silly things can put people off or give the wrong impression of a venue. A bit of modern was always played at The Embankment Club so some went away calling it a disco just because they didn’t like it. This put a few people off from going there which I was told about years later. Len.
  17. I think 'Open minded' is a better description than 'Upfront'. We've heard a lot from the 'Open minded' 'camp' on this thread, it would be good to hear opinions of folk who consider themselves as staunch oldies fans or returnees who as yet haven't tried these events and to maybe state why. The Sandy Golden track - Absolutely Awesome! All the best, Len.
  18. - That wasn't actually meant as a joke! Len.
  19. Hi Paul, Yes, labeling doesn't help - One thing I often think is maybe it’s to do with people’s perception of what a night will be like. For example, I didn’t go to The 100 Club for years because people said to me - “It’s cr*p Len, they play all that rare sh*t down there”...I ended being taken in the mid 90’s by Shifty and Steve Chadwick (There’s a name from the past) as Shifty finally convinced me I’d love it....I was in absolute ‘music heaven’ and was pretty upset that I’d missed so many years. The pont I’m trying to make is I think some people may not realise that there are plenty of oldies included at the upfront venues and in contrast with everything else that’s played, they actually sound better!  So if you haven’t tried any of the upfront events, don’t rely on someone else’s opinion, find out for yourself - Who knows you may be pleasantly surprised! All the best, Len.
  20. Hi Chalky, Yes, that's absolutelly right for us, I was just mixing it up to see if it would attract people who attend the big oldies venues. There would definatelly be a 'queue to get in and a queue to get out' though wouldn't there? Butch would set the theme and I'm sure Andy's finishing set would be a blnder. All the best, Len.
  21. Yes, seriously. Be good if anyone out there considers themselves in that 'Camp' and can confirm this - as in someone who mainly attends the big oldies all-nighters but would welcome at leat a few more different sounds. All the best, Len.
  22. Hi Win, I think your right, the split must have widened sinse the days of the the 90's, The Ritz in Manchester etc, pretty sure we were all dancing to upfront / oldies, the lot back then (You were there mate) All the best, Len.
  23. Hi Kev, Not at all mate, the thread’s about why there is such a difference in attendance between the two events and is there anything about the upfront soul scene that stops more people attending (One extreme to another maybe?) Adding another all-nighter to the soul calenda is the last thing on my mind! Lol All the best, Len.
  24. Yep, saw that coming! - At least you beat Terry to it! lol (Was meant tongue in cheek though) Len.
