  1. Ooops - Sorry, my last 'Story' was 'Buying - Hooray!' rather than 'Doh - Why did I sell that?!' - Just pretend Keith posted it, then it's the 'right way round' for the thread! Len.
  2. Another one - Kinda funny in hindsight, to show you just can never tell! I'm pretty sure it was again, the late 80's, I remember worrying that Keith (yes you Keith!) may be getting a bit too good a deal when you offered me a trade. I wanted to buy Otis Lee - Hard Row To Hoe - Quaint, off one of your sales tapes and you offered me this trade - 'Otis Lee for Joanie Sommers - Don't Pity Me - Warner Brothers plus £70.00'...I actually rang Pat Brady to check if he thought it was a fair deal! - Thanks to Pat, the deal was completed! lol ...Keith, I'm sure you may have completely forgotten that one, Carl Fortnum informs me it was probably the same week that John Anderson had just got a few as Gary Spencer got it just before me (Carl probably also had one knowing him!) I didn't realise I was playing a 'Newie' at the time lol. (Maybe I'll buy you a 'Long over due' drink next time I see you Keith) All the best, Len.
  3. ....I was waiting for that one! You may want to explain that for the benefit of others..."I think I'm gonna need me Twinkle Little Star, considering the crowd, I recon I've had it if someone else plays that tonight!" All the best, Len.
  4. I think a few know this story but for the benefit of those who don't - In the late 80's I was given a handful of records and amongst them was The Parisians - Twinkle Little Star - Demon Hot. Now, at the time I liked it and tried playing it out at a local place I used to run but I couldn't help but wonder if the lyrics were cool or not! Anyway a few years later I ended up selling some records to Dave Vanner and I let him have it for £2.00 - Yep £2.00! As soon as I sold it I regretted it as I'd had it a while and don't normally sell any. Anyway about a week later I asked if I could buy it back but he wanted to keep it, which was no problem and there was no animosity. I asked again every so often and two years later, which by then it was going well up in price, my good friend Dave sold it back to me for....£2.00! C/w a big smile on his face saying... "Lenny, let that be a lesson to you, never sell ya records!"... Because of that I haven't really unless 'needs must' things like having to feed the kids etc. So at least a happy ending, it's the type of record I need as it's now a good 'back up' if my set goes a bit rocky (Yep, it's used quite often!) lol All the best, Len.
  5. I agree, more so if anything and that 'sound' becomes associated with a certain place because that person D.Jed there... Have I just stated the ble*ding obvious? - Sorry, I'm havin'g a bit of a 'Dumb Day' today. All the best, Len.
  6. Doh! - Missed it to. If poss can someone put a link on this thread to it? Len.
  7. Great record - Yep, defo a 'Tape Swappers' fave - That's how I came across it as missed the era when it would have been 'played out' All the best, Len.
  8. Go careful Win or before you know it, you'll be back on the 'Northern Soul Merry Go Round'! - Remember, one ride takes 10 years! lol All the best, Len.
  9. Marion Love - I Can't Forget About You Baby - Ab'soul'utely awesome - I hope yule all agree 100 % Len.
  10. Don't be a 'Scaredy Cat' He He , I would have danced if I was there. Try 'Splicing' it in after something like Marion Stewart - I Must Be Losing You....No one will notice (Honest!) All the best, Len. P.S - If D.Jing was easy, everyone would be doing it...Hang on? - They are! - Now that's confusing! :O)
  11. P.s - Yes you could / SHOULD! play Ella Woods at nighters - It's a beautiful dance track! Len.
  12. A few nice bits on there, thanks Ian. In my oppiniun a very good D.J, he comes across very well and is obviously a soul music fan through and through - Can't knock it even if not all the tunes are to my taste. All the best, Len.
  13. Yep, See you all Tomorrow evening. Len.
  14. Hiya Dolly, Twas great to see you at Burnley the other week, you got plenty of friends around you on the scene (Maybe you just need reminding) I and many others won't be able to comprehend what you have been through - Getting through, dealing with or coming to terms with any trauma takes a very long time. G*d I'm a sad case being on line at this time of the morning! - I've got 'P.E.T' (Pre Event Tension) lol, well that and a bl*dy house alarm going off in our street - Grrrr! We have a house full tonight and a big event at Rushden with Soul Sam guesting - Looking forward to it though. Busy day ahead for Nina and I, getting the kids off to sitters, sorting the house out etc etc (Why are kids so blo*dy untidy?!) Hey Dolly, don't do to many nighters mate, you may end up back on the 'Northern Soul Merry-Go-Round' I've been round twice, which was great but one ride takes 10 years! lol All the best, Len. P.s - Of course your not out of order!
  15. 'Norman Soul' - like it (Not in a derogatory manner of course!) As I said, I do understand this record had / has a place and wouldn't wanna take that away from anyone! All the best, Len.
  16. I may have read this wrong but your post sounds as if you are offended - You shouldn't be. I have records that I have spent small fortunes on that folk have told me are not to their taste (not half as politely as that though!) Even when I've been D.Jing! (Which is somewhat off putting lol) But even that doesn't bother me as I buy my records for myself. If I get to D.J every so often then it's a pleasure to share the joy that I get from them with people that I personally 'connect' with. As you do with this particular record, I too have great pleasure in owning every single one of my records and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of them as they are for me. A record collection is a very personal thing which should be respected by all (Although my taste is right and everyone else's is wrong! Lol) All the best, Len.
  17. Maybe that's more the case, I must have liked it years ago as I have a copy (On a different label for playing at home!) but I still think it is a difficult dance record and always did....I know I've just contradicted myself somewhat but in hindsight, I must have liked it at one time - tastes change don't they? All the best, Len.
  18. Each to his own aye? Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure you will Ted!) I was told that the Cuppy label was Bill Haley's wife's label, Cuppy being something to do with her name. I'm not denying the record definitely had a place and some folk love it, just not for me that's all - Nothing wrong in giving ones opinion, tis what makes the world go round... All the best, Len.
  19. Hi mate, I've been - It's safer to log in the safety of your own home, believe me! lol See no 'Hear' Ya'll tonight folks. All the best, Len.
  20. Obviously a matter of personal taste but I never liked the record and I'd imagine it's impossible to dance to....I know, I know, no one asked! lol All the best, Len.
  21. I can answer that!.....You obviously haven't met Mr Bob Cornack - He rules! lol All the best, Len.
  22. Hi Maz, I want to know about "lables, artists etc" but can never blo*dy remember most of that side of things! It's about the great music though isn't it? and how, as you say it pulls at your heart strings. All the best, Len.
  23. Yep, it's the only 'event' in the world that could be on weekly! As I said in the chat room, it breaks up the week nicely, I have a couple of cans whilst listening and commenting. As you say, peoples personal collections / tastes are interesting. The chat room is friendly whether a you like a particular tune or not, that's people personal taste (Which obviously, if not exactly the same as mine is completely wrong! lol) Everyone seems to feel comfortable enough to say so as well, as it's never done maliciously or aggressively. See y'all next week - 'On line!' All the best, Len. p.s - Well done for a great show last night.
  24. You can play it Barry - Your the boss! - Also I find D.Jing with albums a bit of a 'Cuffufle' - "Have I treble checked it's on 33rpm / Have I treble checked it's back on 45rpm, oo sh*t all this thinking and worrying, now I've forgotten to put the next record on....Where am I?" Don't panic mate, don't think I'll be that bad lol All the best, Len. p.s - Jocko, I also caress that L.P
  25. Great record, will be playing it on Banbury Radio on 20th December (Not really a plug, I'm listening to said radio right now that's all) What a record though aye?! Len.
