  1. Jeeeze. I sold mine for £1,200.00 not long back, and this was after the buyer suggested "between £1,200.00 and £1,500.00" - I didn't have the heart to take the latter! I'll stick to welding to make my money Len
  2. I had heard of 'Slayer', but not 'Tool'. Although my Son is only just 13, he said an interesting thing with ref to our scene - He said that it hadn't evolved, yet his music was constantly evolving (I know this could be argued to a point) But if you compare the metal type music of the early days to today with the likes of 'SlipKnot', they are very different, but still the same genre. There are loads of new bands they were talking about / giving each other recommendations to listen to, so it seems this 'racket' will go on forever (man) Oh god what's happening to me?!!! Len
  3. I agree - It's interesting to read people's views on this. Some people I know can't comprehend how on earth other people can feel the same about music other than soul, such is their passion. It's understandable though. Len
  4. I tell you what - When I first 'hit the main arena' (as they say) I thought what a racket! But by the end of the weekend I even had a head bang myself (Don't tell the others I said that) Albeit with ear plugs in (God I am old) I wholeheartedly take your point about not brow beating him in to being a soulie - He has to do his own thing (Fine had it been soul of course) I asked him what he would do with my records once I'm gone. He answered....."I'm going to keep them because they will remind me of you Dad"....... Ok, so maybe he was saying something to please me, and in reality will sell the day after I'm gone - But it was sweet to hear Len
  5. Ok, so I'm just back from an amazing adventure that was 'The Download Festival'.....In ref to this thread, I'd like to think the people I witnessed over this trip do get something similar to us from there 'thing' as we do of ours. I wouldn't go as far as to say they get the 'goose bumps' (as mentioned earlier) of emotion, but they do get the excitement. I'm soooo not a 'metal head', in fact I freely admitted I was a 'plastic' to everyone I met over the weekend (in the hope that me saying so somehow saved me from being one) Suffice to say - I was the embarrassing Dad. And this little story proves that (more than I like actually).........Bailey and I were walking back to our tent after seeing a band called 'Slayer' who had just finished their last ever UK concert (Which was a big deal) A security man asked me about the headline act 'Tool' who were on the main stage...."Mate, are the headline act using cartoons in their graphics?".....(I replied, but by this point of the weekend I was extremely tired)......."I dunno, we were at the other stage watching Slade"......(Queue Bailey)......."Slayer Dad! Slayer!".....All this in front a load of metal heads, who incidentally were falling about laughing - OOOPS!......"Really?".......(I tried to save)......."I thought they sounded different"......Off I and a well and truly embarrassed Bailey marched I think I will stick to soul, but it was good to see others enjoying their thing (As well as a great adventure with my Son) 'Embarrassing Dad' 'Their Camp Site' 'Our Camp Site'....Thank the lord I chose the 'Quiet Camp Site!' 'Bailey with some Metal Heads' 'Bailey hopefully getting something similar to what we feel'
  6. Congratulations Richard - As has been said, it's great to have good news such as this. One day I'd like to walk down Oxford Street and see one of those historical Blue plaques on the wall of The 100 Club with Ady's name on it, stating how many years the All-nighters ran for - Hopefully it will be something I see when I'm an old man 'cause it that ain't time yet Len
  7. I do - Seeing my parents in an amateur dramatization of 'The Sound Of Music' was absolute torture that seemed to go on for ever! (Bless em) At the (what I thought) was the end....."Phew, that went on a bit, let's go Nina"........."Len, it's only the interval, the Germans haven't arrived yet!"........"Oh god!" Len
  8. Crumbs is it 5 years?! I thought 'Northern Soul' was a good film, yes some bits / tunes were wrong, but that's just poetic licence, so didn't bother me in the slightest. Elaine may not have been there in the early 70's, but loads of films, period dramas etc are done on the back of research only. At least she had people around her who did experience it to get first hand knowledge from, albeit only their own personal experiences. Before it came out, I thought that to make even a half decent film about it all was impossible - I didn't particularly like the story line of the two lads wanting to be DJs because that is a nowadays 'disease' (Hardly any of the punters thought about DJing back then) but of course they had to have a story line - The finished product was a very good effort, and I don't think anyone else could have done a better job. Has the film effected the scene? Not much I don't think, maybe making a few young people aware of it, but that's about it - I think the young people on the scene today were introduced to it by their parents, then passed to friends. My Son (Bailey) says our scene is extinct - I say not quite Len
  9. True - In this case it's more like lad taking dad though We were all a lot more independent / worldly confident at that age than kids are nowadays weren't we? So many of us have told our parents we were staying at a mates and visa versa, and gone off 'in to the night'. Here's Bailey. Remember some time in the future - You saw him here first! Len
  10. I'm glad you said that - Not least because I am taking (enduring!) my 13 year old Son (Bailey) to The Download Festival to see his fave band 'SlipKnot'. Two years ago we bought Bailey an electric guitar, and he plays it every day from the moment he comes home from School, and looks up guitar stuff on You tube every morning. Although I can't feel it with his music, it is great to see his passion, and his obsession with it. Btw, we never had computer games in the house, and believe he is so much the better for it - He is one of few young people who can actually communicate face to face (He doesn't shut up sometimes!) I also never felt sorry for 'the outsiders', just kinda superior when I used to leave home near on midnight as they were all coming home (with their kebabs) Len
  11. The Fleet Peterborough 1985 (Maybe 86) 'The New Wanderers - This Man In Love' & 'The Lucky Charms - Tied To Your Heart' I remember wondering why all these people were chewing gum Len
  12. I thought I saw one for sale on here not long ago - Can't seem to find it when searching though. You may have better luck than me in doing a search in sales. All the best, Len
  13. It's a classic isn't it? I can picture it now - Folk chatting after a great night, all in good spirits, maybe after a few nice record deals......."Yeh, great to see you too, and thanks for doing a good turn on those few, well pleased! See you at The 100 Club next week!".........(Enters mate's car)......"What a night! Did you hear.....?" (The 'verbal' starts).......'Broom Broom' the cars zooms off........ Len
  14. I'm not naming names either - But a lad I know left a pile of records on his mates' car roof after a do, they drove off and he didn't realize until they were home! They went back and collected most, but some were never found. Oh dear - The evils of drink Len
  15. when I think of the money I've wasted on records over the years it makes me realise I could have instead got a lovely car, lesson learned All the best, Len
  16. All well 'n' good thanks Steve. I'm still in 'cloud cuckoo' land having just returned home from a fabulous holiday - Disney was great fun but exhausting, so was glad to head to Clearwater for a few days. I say 'cloud cuckoo' land as to be able to have a holiday like that after 20 years of Whitby every year is amazing! Ref photography, I have to admit, I never really saw the 'skill' in it. As far as I was concerned, you just point a camera and press the button Yeh sorry about that folkz! I now know that there is more to it - Focus etc etc aside, the fun bit, well skill really, is what is behind the shot, the waiting, and of course capturing a 'moment'. The sunset picture looks even better when seen straight from my phone camera than on this larger computer screen - Can anyone tell me why? All the best, Len 'David Bailey' Dopson
  17. Hi Guys, I'm no photographer (hence first time I've posted any on here) But I think these couple of snaps are pretty good... This first one is of an Osprey (Sea Hawk) I think that is what the captain of the boat my family and I went on said anyway - It 'swooped' across the top of our boat, and I just pointed my phone camera and hoped for the best! This second one is a 'memory' one for me - It's of a stunning sunset after a wonderful day on Clearwater Beach with my family just last week Keep them photos coming! All the best, Len
  18. I also agree. But to be fair, not everyone is articulate, so how their written words come across don't necessarily reflect exactly how they are saying it. (If that makes sense) Len
  19. Hi Julian, There's nothing at all wrong with leaving feed-back. I've never really thought about it, and of course before the internet it wasn't 'a thing'. If I am convinced that it is important, I will leave feed-back from now on in (But I want 5% discount on purchases) All the best, Len
  20. 'None of the above' - Some (like myself) simply don't leave feed-back. No big deal / or any thought behind not doing so. As said, most would leave feed-back if prompted. It's just something I've never done (No mischief behind it) All the best, Len
  21. It is terrible news, which will hit lots of us hard. I know Win was writing a book - It would have been a very good insight to our Scene. Len.
  22. So sad - Winston was lovely. Had many interesting conversations / and laughs with him over the years. RIP mate. Len 'n' Nina x
  23. Classic! Len
  24. ...Ya did! I even read it all - Well done that man. Now late for work - Thanks. Len
  25. 'Guilty as charged' - But if someone asked me to leave feed-back I would. It's just something I've never bothered with, and I don't check on a person's feed-back before I buy. Silly really I suppose, but I'm a trusting person. As far as people not replying in general, well that is a pet hate of mine. Nowadays, when a person has the info they require, they don't feel the need to reply / acknowledge receipt of such - It's rude, and annoying. Len
