Just found this on this internet...goodness me. End of an era indeed. Sure, there are already other products in use (mostly copying the good old 1200) but sure this is a milestone which will lead now definitely into a new era in which night - and clublife will change once and for all. Better leave the next 45 aside and invest in two or three replacement turntables...especially if you are a promoter. Cant tell as I don´t know them buyers and sellers in person...still, it wasn`t cheapie since the eighties and once demand had risen the price of course had to follow. Its not the first and won`t be the last time were demand dictates a rise in price. Don`t know why I bother though, I bought mine over twenty years ago and still have it, so what ever price, I don`t care really.

I would have said the records 2nd time is already history. Anway, it used to sell up to 300 UKP in recent times (lists and interent). Great record by the way.

Amen Russ, you couldn`t have put that any better. In general I recently had come to the conclusion to stay away from threads like this (or for example that infamous and laughable other thread "Overseas scene, real or just dicking around?") but as it made me so happy I just felt the need to add the following: our Hip City crowd here in Berlin is between 20 and 45 (with one exception making it 63 LOL) but since start of this year we are very happy to have found new regulars in a crowd of young Berlin Mods. I knew from previous talks with them that they are between 16 and 18, this year they already started travelling to Weekenders in Germany, but next year so they told me at the last Hip City they will wider their horizon by travelling to weekenders abroad as well...if that wouldn`t be enough already they even started collecting vinyl now! This is what its all about. F****g fantastic! Its 2009 and here we have 16 year old Mods discovering the Rare Soul scene for themselves!

Don`get confused boys....the actual and latest version is the second edition. Volume 4 covers labels S to Z and indeed was the last volume to be publisghed as the final part of this second edition. Edition three is about to be published next year although before there will have been the publication of a comprehensive Soul Labels (only) Edition. Bob is currently working on that. Marc

Tony Ewing who was the founder of both Chex records and The Technics recorded later (1963 onwards) as Tony Ewing & the Four Voices. As Bob already indicated there might have been some further line up changes over the years which may explain the Four Gents connection if there really was one.

Well, one possible source for your confusion might be the fact that Johnny Mitchell was a member of the Majestics (on Chex) and later a member of the Monitors. The Majestics on Linda are a totally different group and do not have any connection with the Majestics on Chex as far as I am aware.

If you refer to the snippet out of "Bangkok Post" they next to Steve Jarrell show two other and totally unconnected acts, the String Brothers (Top) and one Rebecca Pan (Below). They seem to have just been other acts of Bangkok nightlife back then.

The line up of Salt & Pepper -as already posted by Dave Abbott- included Eddie Mobley (Lead), Steve Jarrell (Lead and Sax), Tony Nardi (Organ, band founder, -leader and label owner), Dan Sullivan (Bass), BT Bailey ( Drums) and Jim Plummer (Guitar). Tony also owned Big Stone Records. The record by the Cheques (his other group outfit that has no connection with S&P) is a fantastic Garage record. The flipside has a very nice "funky" instrumental. Tony told me that they also recorded for Volt but couldn`t remember the title or anything else. While we were having another conversation he said it could also well have been on some other Memphis and/or Volt-connected label. Marc
