Do You Have Enough Money To Be A Top Northern Soul Dj?
cant make the 100 Club in August but it was persuasion enough (if one is needed at all..) to book for the 100 ClubĆĀ“s anniversary in September ...and yes, if I would be living in the UK I would "run" to every single Lifeline event to catch them both, Andy and Mark !

Do You Have Enough Money To Be A Top Northern Soul Dj?
Theres two ways me thinks. One in fact is you are a millionaire and use your money to enrich ebay or dealers...but personally I only know one The other is you have started early enough to have enough records (to either find the one or two re-activated emperor`s new clothes in your collection to play out and / or to sell records you once bought cheap for a much higher nowadays price) PLUS and thats the mnain thing IMVHO you have an ear, go around, listen to different DJ`s, are open for new sounds and impressions, buy blind, take the risk, dig hard, search everywhere, are imaginative, have good contacts, know a lot of fellow collectors, know even more dealers, hustle around, are a part-time dealer, are able to let things go, spend several hrs each day on the net on the look for new stuff CHEAP I believe the last part is the real truth behind people like Andy Dyson, Mark D, etc ... so to state the old "its a rich mans game, you have to be a millionaire etc" is a lame excuse and most of the time used by people who are too lazy to be as active, to do the same or who are simply just jealous or like to moan in general. Just my opinion. (no offence and not intended against anyone taking part in this thread of course) Marc

Black Vs. White Cont....right Of Reply
Agree on all parts except for the part Soul music "ceased to be produced when the people producing the music and connected to the cultural movement ceased to use it as a term to describe their own music"..as most still do up to today. I am not only talking about "old" artists still productive such as Lou Pride to name just one, I am also talking and including artists such as Sharon jones (just becuase you named her) and many many others as well. The term "Soul" was found and used long before the civil movement(s) found their way and had their influx on US society on a wider scale. The Great Nathaniel, Chubby Martin are just two artists from the top of my head who used the term SOUL in the early Sixties long before "Sweet Soul Music" and others. Personally I have no problem inlcuding white artists or brown or yello ones into the Genre SOUL as long as what they deliver indeed has all necessary ingredients of what makes a SOUL tune. In general, to me, the term SOUL was "invented" and used long before it became a tag for a certain state of conscience and way of living, but was soon "adopted" to label what you just so rightly described. Today again it has lost most of this and is a simple label for certain Music styles being produced all over this planet. any yes, people need to chill out indeed and enjoy their music, be it blue - eyed or brown eyed

George Hughley On Gaye "do The Beatle"
thought so too for a while, but no, already saw three passing thru ebay well under 200 USD this year alone,

George Hughley On Gaye "do The Beatle"
fabulous 45 by one of my fave artists. around 200 nowadays, used to fetch more when rotated by a few dj`s. top DEEP side on the flip. One of the best Gaye releases IMHO. If you dig DEEP a look out for his awesome (a-w-e-s-o-m-e) Deep 45 on Fairlane is also very much worth the effort. Both Atlanta labels of course although all Fairlane records were pressed at KING records, Ohio. Marc

cheers Dave, dont think this thread or Karen“s posting is anti-brit in any kinda way. In the end Karen is A Brit herself LOL I am sure you know what Karen was aiming at. If it would be anti-brit I would have a big problem with it myself. Thats why I stated my opinion in my first 2 postings in this topic. And thats also why I am looking forward to Valenica big style...will be a BIG THING indeedy The whole "problem" is/came about when Benji said he "knows" some German promoters who dont want to have UK Soulies at their venues. Take it from me, I dont know a single Promoter, be it German or not, who is against UK Soulies at their events. This is absolute rubbish. And its sad that this, the thread, which I am sure was meant by Dave Rimmer to be a positive and productive one along the way developed in that kinda direction. Marc

And I am so much looking forward to my first DJ experience in Valencia...from what I have heard Big Thing/Valencia seems to be amongst the best annual events outside the UK ? Always big fun to go to Spain, been to Gijon twice so far and it still is amongst my fave cities and events

In all respect dave, I dont think its crap at all. Karen didn`t say a Brit can`t do it.. She just said that when she wants to go abroad she wants a local promoter doing the night rather than a UK Soulie with his friends...playing in the worst case bootlegs or CD`s and ruining the reputation of an event. Which is what she and others had to experience in Rimini some years ago...
-
Joe Walker On Bold
uuh yes, both sides are fabulous! tried to push that some years ago, maybe too raw for some LOL

I was at Rimini last year and must say it really was great weekender. The only English there were friends of mine that I was very very happy to see and party with. In fact almost as many Germans there last year as English. At my Hip City Soul Club we are very happy to welcome Soulies from everywhere, be it Japan, England, Spain or whathaveyou. In general I think its not a nice move to say anyone would be not welcomed at any club without saying where exactly...guess most will (now ?) feel very uncomfortably with this ? Further more and in all honesty, I dont know any of the German promoters who dont wish to see any British at their clubs...I mean ... this must surely be a joke ??? Marc
