  1. Absolutely correct Chalky, and I of course dont wanna question his or Mrs Lorraine Chandlers words..I have the deepest of respect for both of them as I am sure everbody on here has. But so often have I experienced that people, artists tend do forget..expecially bearing in mind that those things are now 45 years ago. I could have asked my mother where she lived in 1966 and she would have had known. But she sure wouldnt have had known what the name of the house owners were or who else lived in the house .. So it could well be this deal is just simply forgotten about ? Anyway, who knows.. all fine. Just my opinion.

  3. I cant think of one single law (system) in which this practice would equal a deal and or written commitment. nice they tried though but if that is true and was all that was done in order to authorize those early UK Sue releases...I am afraid theres only one word to call them..bootlegs. A can of worms indeed...
  4. its great really...do a search here on soul-source if you like and are interested. theres a lenghty thread about the record incl. the story of how this record came about. that story aint a prank for a change as I tracked down the forme label owner indeed and got it first hand from him ;)
  5. I am glad everybody had enough sense of humour to cope with this little prank...still it really would have been nice, wouldnt it LOL

  9. below is a picture from our hip cty soul club night in january..it was the farewell picture for the girl in the blue dress in the first line as she went to live in new york the following monday and presents some of our younger crowd...photo was shot at 6.30 am in the morning after one heating allnighter and as you can see...I am afraid I am the oldest LOL NB the blond girl in the first line (who cant be older than start of her twenties) uses to sing along most of the tunes we play when dancing. they dont know what it is all about ? far from it !
  10. couldnt resist any longer, so I rang the number..and yes, as it was already 5 past midnight his daughter who answered my call said her name is April the second..

  12. as it was a beautiful sunny day today here in berlin my girl and I decided to go strolling along one of the local flea markets...usual stuff, clothes, books, lamps etc... me of course always had my radar on for some table with records. found two little boxes, but nth special in there. almost near the end of the flea market , one of the last tables full of paintings, old concert and movie posters, postcards, lps ...and some 45s. I had already given up finding anything of interest when I started looking thru the box..jazz, german pop hits from the 6ts and 7ts, ...but no soul. the guy behind the table, a black gentleman in his late sixties, asks me what I am looking for, soul, old soul records I say, preferrably from the 6ts...oh he says, interesting, he used to sing soul himself when he was in his twenties..not thinking too much of his statement I trying to be polite ask him if I could know him he says no, we were just a small local group who toured the local gi clubs when I was a soldier he says. in berlin ? I ask him with growing interest , no he says in bavaria and south west germany. what brought him here I ask and he says when he left the army in 68 he decided to stay with his german girlfriend he had met at one of his gigs. she is still his wife he says and in the early eighties they had moved to berlin as he had the opportunity to play at some jazz clubs here as he is not only singing but also is playing jazz saxophone. and gives me his card...JOHN HARRIS... I was trying to hold my breath...I ask him if he used to gig as john harris & the soul sayers...yes he said being a bit surprised I knew this small but to me so impotant fact... ! ... theres a 45 by him I say and he says yeah right, almost had forgotten about that one. not the best record he says and started laughing..I say, well I am looking for this one..and then he says what I was hoping he woud say..well give me a ring tomorrow I think I still have copy somewhere at home... think I will stay awake today and the whole nite in front of the telephone and give him a ring tomorrow 6 am LOL!!!!!!
  13. true, but it is of course the same artist.
  14. some crazy prices paid for a trends 45 recently...500 UKP vanguards 250 I would have said ?
  15. geoff, I hope you find one soon. I wont tell you how long I was looking for one...only other copy I ever saw went thru ebay a year or so ago quite cheap. I was almost tempted to buy it as a future trade item but my pockets were too empty
  16. thankfully not, my other stock/collection copy is very much okay...still it took me ages to find it LOL!
  17. have a spare of the great groovesville 45 by the way...f**d labels, horrible looking vinyl but plays amazingly good. cheap! my favourite by al gardener is the first take of "i`ll get along" feat. the primettes on lupine by the way...this the lupine 45 is by far the hardest to get..
  18. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ISLEY-BROTHERS-Why-When-Love-Is-Gone-Take-Me-In-You-/310365345264?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item48433755f0 maybe a bit PRICEY ?
  19. ...if you fancy having an originl, I have spares of both tamla 101 and 102. reasonably priced.
  20. thanks for sharing that great piece of memory phil
  21. hello there, yeah, its him. wolfgang weisbrodt though..you know him ?
  22. dont think so dylan, they had their own army shops to buy from where they could get us 45s for a discount price. you never ever saw them buying in german shop except for maybe buying german sausage, beer or souvenirs for their families at home.
  23. if I understand you correctly, you are saying that all sue record releases were done without authorization..so if thats true ( ?) whatelse to call them but bootlegs then ??
  24. if they are bootlegs (and I am still not 100 %convinced I must say) they would be the very first in the book of northern soul history really, wouldnt they ? there used to be so many tiny labels (even in germany) which did release strangely scarce us soul tunes...german spectrum and heliodor spring to my mind. one really cant imagine at which audience they were aimed at,as soul for sure was en vogue back then yes but as far as for germany it was motown and aretha franklin etc definitely not unknown and unheard of soul from stateside. if you would bootleg sth surely you would like to see that thing being sold. but to sell bootlegs by unknown artists with unknown tunes on the european continent back in the sixties ? no chance I would think ? so I somehow imagine the people behind those releases must have had the contacts or must have been die hard soul fans who just realsed them to entertain themselves or for the love of the music...or both. another question that needs to be thought of in order to answer wether these releases could be bootlegs is why did they only release songs that were related to each other via writers, us labels etc. ... releases by any other totally unrelated artist(s) would make more sense if they were doing a series of bootlegs...why no releases from other labels based in nyc, ohio or whereever ?
