  1. had the Roy Roberts on Jamaican Stateside which is quite scarce amongst the rarest has to be that one (missprinted) title I played on solar radio three months ago though.
  2. Its worthe vrey single penny out of the 800 you are asking for IMVHO.
  3. is that "off" or "to"...I mean dancefloor reaction ? ;)
  4. you missed nth re writting letters but you missed out on luftansa, they paid a pretty nice wage back then. I got fired though when I lost their master key after I had a few too many at a party I "foolishly" decided to attend before going to work ;)
  5. dreaming about TOTW Stafford, first visits to the 100club, buying Kent Lp`s, writing first letters to Ady Croasdell (never getting an answer LOL), having Inferno Records "Detroit A-Go-Go" on my walkman while doing my job as a cleaning man at Lufthansa every day before school to earn the money for my first treasured Northern Soul 45s, waiting for the Soul Bowl list to arrive on a friday, sending money in letters and hunting down the first us soul 45s warehouses: the eighties were SIMPLY FABULOUS...for me. LOL
  6. both sold now thanks!
  7. Hi everybody, have these two up for grabs George Smallwood Touching Is my Thing Smallwood EX+ SOLD Ujima I`m Not Ready Epic EX (tiny hiss at the run in for exactly 1-!-sec.) SOLD First come etc.. please pm, cheers Marc
  8. fabulous. I just send her what our small "support nighter" had rasied last saurday.
  9. hi rob, sorry to hear about your health problems. my advice would be to check them via popsike.com first for a rough idea of their todays market value. than offer the high end items to either raresoulman.co.uk or raresoulvinyl.co.uk for their auctions. the mediocre stuff (value-wise) you should advertise on here, sell the left-overs via ebay. best of luck!
  10. actually it is GLS , sister company of the royal mail. since nov last year the royal mail isnt dealing with dhl anymore and everything that isnt mailed as letter post is being delivered thru gls. I had some troubles with them already..
  11. and its still happening pete...at a venue near you. why not go out and experience it again ?
  12. yes, exactly what I meant to say. Also maybe worth noting: I do highly appreciate the work numero does and think they have easily become one of the best adresses when it comes to compilation cd`s (and re-releases). They are indeed a bonus.
  13. yes bob, that record indeed dissapeared from certain playlists... this fact didnt kill the scene but is just one example of a record having lost some of its "myth". sadly not everybody bob. re darkness...german clubs, especially inberlin can be very very dark LOL
  14. You dont have to have a phd to know that. I think most people who have ever held a record in their hands know they meaning of the word "publisher"...
  15. Not only do I doubt that..I know different. Its not a slight hurt, in the big scheme of things as I have pointed out it thinnnes out the sets and in teh long run lets the scene die. theres no one who will having bought the box say "cool, lets see where I can danc eto Two pLus Two...I may even shell out 6000 usd for an oprginal"..thats very naive to think bob. You wouldnt be able to know different seeing you live in the USA and obviously havent visited any soul venue in england. especially not behind teh decks..you would be surprised at what you would be able to see at some places....say no more.
  16. you may have a point there. I indeed live in my own small universe (no irony intended). you may have a point there bob
  17. hard for me to imagine that already 500 boxes have been sold....for example I do not know anybody from the Berlin soul collectors circuit who bought one. the Syl Johnson aspect aint catching either Ian, that was a box full of re-done lp`s by him. I do agree though that this was cool for Syl and well deserved.
  18. thats not a relevant point IMO: play the record at two 800 people strong allnighters and more than three times as many people will have heard it than boxes have been sold
  19. lets face it...these kinda things kill indeed the upfront scene. not the kings hall kinda scene, its not what I am on about. let them play not only their oldies in fact let them even play their bootlegs if they wanna. its a completely different world to what my "world" of rare soul scene is build of. my scene is full of people all across the world these days, people that are motivated and young in their heart collectors, dj´s and dancers, people whose main part of their spare time it is to travel all across europe these days, from club to allnighter to weekender and back to a soul club again to hear these precious and fresh rare soul sounds and to meet fellow and like-minded soulies. the fuel for all these travels and allnighters are fresh tunes. with no fresh tunes left or the few fresh tunes being made available way too early (thru re-issues) these tunes loose their appeal for many. for many the appeal to travel and attend do`s. in result these "fresh" tunes are getting fewer and fewer, new ones are getting harder and harder to find. So to have a box of 45 (plus 1 in fact) of some of the hardest and fresher tunes around in fact is a shot in the knee. Its fine for the people who dont own them originals and yes there`s a demand so from a business point of view well done to who ever satisfies this demand (although I doubnt tehy will sell all 500 boxes..at 350 usd anyway). but to the scene it is doing no favour. But maybe I am alll wrong anyway, as I understand sag war fare aint that fresh anyway anymore seeing that even soul sam has one by now LOL Tell you what I will wait a year or two now and let my copy be auctioned via JM where can once again describe it as "a current new monster created by soul sam and now championed by only ginger and the lucky few who can call a copy their own"
  20. I must say I strongly doubt that all of them so-called re-issues are really indeed legit and legal. I know one case I in which I contacted the artist to buy the rights for one of his tunes for an upcoming Hip City 45. He -in fact his wife- told me "yes we own the rights but no thanks, we are not interested in any kind of re-issues or new reocrdings and such. we left the music behind us a long time ago" when I mentioned that of course I will respect their decision I still dont understand why they agreed on a deal with some one else on a different tune..they said "which tune ? We never ever gave anyone the rights to rerelease any of the music"...had me thinking. not really thinking in fact it just added to what I already knew / was fearing for to be the reality of the oh so wonderful world of new releases and re-issues...
  21. I think giants statement was meant to be read with irony
  22. Who ? Still havent got a clue.. as usual LOL
  23. Oh, this sounds just so so familiar mate. Keep On!
  24. who was that out of interest ?
  25. countless reissues of said tune on lookalike pameline, magic city, gold seven etc. ooi does anyone know who now owns the real deal acetate of tony hestor ? keb darge used to own and play it at one stage but who owns it now ?
