  1. at the big 900 people strong German Soul weekender in Nürnberg in december one DJ played it in his friday spot...much to the shock, awe, surprise and amusement of half the other djs and people in the hall. I was in London deejaying that night and only just appeared on the saturday so sadly I couldnt witness myself and had to be told the story the next day. as a nice side effect that will hold people back from thinking it could have been me ;)
  2. rip liz lands
  3. decent deep soul, you would like it (as I do too). if callum cant provide a file I will try to record it tomorrow.
  4. thats exactly the point, you can find it mentioned but you just cant see a copy in reality/scan of it...it may exist but it also may be just a myth...replicated thru the net on and on again.
  5. "the snake" together with "right back" by maxine nightingale were the (first) two tunes that helped me get the first Berlin skinheads interested in Northern Soul back when there was still a wall and two german states. that was some hard work as most didnt even appreciate original ska or rocksteady back then..
  6. German version done in 1969 by one jack white who went on to become a very sucessful and world-wide known producer..not to be confused with the american artist of the same name.
  7. "After the horrors of the A-side, Back To School Again, an incompetent novelty pop song that ranks comfortably among the worst Motown releases of 1963,.." :o ?? LOL well, you cant argue about individual taste so I have learned..
  8. relax nev, I am pretty sure thats a typo LOL said 45 is in his guide at 500 UKP..at a guess it was intended to be sold in his list at 600 (the guide is quite some years older than the list you posted)
  9. only saw and have it myself on ride, I have yet to see a copy on gay shel.
  10. "Back To School Again" awesome and so untypical Motown 45. One of my faves since I first heard it via George Sharpe. Quite a rare one, much harder than the price would suggest...
  11. I`ll have a look
  12. yes, awesome footage
  13. bloody hell, sorry for that azza..same club though ;) you know what I had that LGF 45...orange label if I remember correctly. sold it some years ago..another mark in my long list of obvious mistakes ;)
  14. this is good rich , really like it. and even dont know what it is which makes it even more interesting to me.
  15. best answer I recently had after answering a fellas IMMENSE wants list with a few heavy hitters off his list "sorry, great items but I have no money at the moment". Nth wrong with that..BUT WHY POST A MASSIVE BIG HITTERS WANTS LIST THEN ??? LOL ...crazy place indeed this planet sometimes.
  16. reflects exactly my thoughts when I saw this... of course most who care to/want to have a sort of ranking in their mind will know that no one is able to be as innovative and fresh as butch on a good day. so if thats what makes a number one than he definitely is, to me anyway. but of course there are hundreds/thousands out there who have other priorities when it comes to what makes a good dj. A certain amount of punters at kings hall or any other similar venue would favour a dj like ginger or kev instead of butch. So really its a very individual thing to say whose number one and depends pretty much on what side of that thing called Northern Soul really tickles your fancies. IMO But maybe it just that time of the year again for everyone to be part in a "who`s number one" kinda thread. We have them every year. Waiting now for someone to (re-) start the annual "Who is your favourite DJ" - thread. Personally I should get a better position this year seeing I made so many new friends on facebook since then LOL
  17. flipside is awesome too jordi, sounds like a impressions style 1964 ballad. really lovely. I played it at solar radio last august...third or fourth tune here https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F56840388&show_artwork=true">
  18. here you have a full length clip https://w.soundcloud....true">
  19. well I am happy to say that I completed my label run end of last year )
  20. no there werent. he may have mixed it up with jj jackson which was on at 150 usd but had no takers. phew... LOL
  21. as this is so very much similar to sam & dave`s "hold on I`m coming" I wonder if this was some sort of gospel standard which was used by Volt Records to create a "million" selling record or if its the other way around and Margaret Moss used a familiar and popular backing line to create a Gospel record ? ´
  22. Hi Matt, interesting, didnt know it was on youtube for so long. Still, if it didnt say in the youtube vid "hey, I am the so and so C/UP" its not really uncovered, is it ? And even if it did it would only have had it uncovered to the people who knew it anyway as other wise they would have had found it on youtube in the fisrt place (as they have to type in United Sounds and not the C/UP name in order to find the link)...Ah, all so confusing.. ;)
  23. dunno Joel, to be honest I never listened to any Perlmutter show...although I knew and know they are fantastic and that I missed out. Still, I simply never got around to listen to them.
  24. not saying he did, did I ? I simply didnt knew jason was playing it at all. But it does make sense THAT he played it. If you get my drift..
  25. yep, good tune. Been known about for some years already though actually. Sort of a collectors tune and I agree, to break thru it needs more copies or in fact copies in the hands of one or two of them so -called top DJ`s. Same with United Sounds although it has been featured in Butch sets druing the last couple of years as a C/UP...think it was Greg Belson who uncovered it (in front of a bigger audience) at last years 22nd Anniversary of the Hip City Soul Club when he deejayed on the friday night. someone must have been very very keen as the next copy appearing on ebay went for almost 3 grand then..in really bad condition LOL !
