  1. six pages onwards...and me being only reading with interest but not contributing due to lack of further evidence in any direction is not wiser at all. so far to me there are two possible scenarios based on what has been said and both make perfect sense to me 1. "Ian Dewhirst theory": Simon Soussan got hold of the master, pressed it up but then decided (or got the feedback) that it aint right for uk dance floors and so destroyed or stored the remaining run. only a handful of copies survived / found their way into Europe. 2. "Chalky theory": Sandy Golden or someone who believed in her recorded and pressed the record privately (hence matrix SG-201 = Sandy Golden ?). A throwback in sound definitely but it wouldnt be the first example of a seventies record sounding like or wanting to sound like a mid sixties record. Sales were zero, so most copies were destroyed or tucked away waiting to be found. Maybe they have been found already years or decades ago by a US record dealer whatsoever with no contacts to any soul market/customers at all and sold them on to customers again with no ties into the soul scene. This could explain why copies were found in so different and not soul connected places (Amsterdam, etc) As I said very interesting thread and the mystery continues. At least to me..
  2. I seem to remember having been told that they licensed all 45 records via the writers or band members.
  3. Oops, just seen the signature, hi David ;)!
  4. whos there "diamond jim", is it craig ? you mean the friday allnighter at cox orange as part of that weekender with the hip city on the nect night ? that was a great weekend... Is it alteady 12 years ago though :o ?!? anyway, whoever played it there was to my knowledge indeed the first person to have played it out here. I missed it, may have been in the other room who knows. Martin is a great character and enthusiastic about his music, was with us last night at the Hip City as well. atb
  5. sag war fare...all I can add to all the informatons and opinions on this fabulous 45 is that the day I received my copy was a day of celebration for me. for the next coming ten days I started every single one of them b playing both sides at least twice.. i had and up to today have my hairs stand up when I hear it! It simply is one of the very best soul records ever made. I initially bought it for the flipside and personally thinl its a unrivaaled masterpiece. And yes, the first time I playd in Germany (Hamburg in this case) I had one person dancing to it on the floor. A few years later and it still packs the floor like last night at the Hip City Soul Club.
  6. magnetics...may have been the vinyl boot though ?

  13. the run out groove SG-201 (SG=Sandy Golden) seems to proove your point.
  14. australian rel. ??? Indeed !!!! any further valid informations of a canadian release of this record on the net ??
  15. Best thread on soul-source for years, fascinating stuff. As much as I love the tune I "love" the idea that forty odd years later the scene uncovers a soussan-relation behind one of the holy grails. Hope not of course but one thing for sure so far this thread has brought up some relevant points...
  16. interesting to see the Barons 45 getting some recognition, I remember when I used to play that at the beloved Hideaway Club in Manchester almost ten years ago now. Always had a feeling they were a white group maybe someone knows ?
  17. thanks Keith, yes a fab piece of Soul indeed. Seeing no one is willing to part with 650 gbp ono it may as well stay where it is....my collection ;)

  20. Think you are right there Nev, but not as amazing as the result I got for Gino Washingtons first record which was unknown really before...a massive 25 GBP .... but it went to a friend and he bought me a coke when he came to support me at That Drving Beat LOL
  21. It was only a handful of copies, wasnt it ? I remember at the time I got his last copy. BUT NOW its for sale 650 GBP
  22. Indeed "Left Out" and "Outcast" are basically the same song with different lyrics, arrangementand tempo of course. same producer /writer credits if I remember correctly. Not at home so cant look at the actual records to come up with names but I am sure someone will. Was kinda amazed when I found out about this for my self some time ago.
