  2. The name's Alferd Kersten, not Kerston. Owner and main producer of Kerston records. He's still alive. John Harris was reissued using the original tapes. Very likely IMHO they came from him and Bear Family licenced from him.
  3. The info that Marc Forrest posted came from the producer of the record. Is that true and factual enough?
  4. No, different stories. John Harris was never meant to be sold to the public. The band took the whole run to sell them at their gigs. The record was pressed on a german label but I don't see it as a german release because it was never released to the public. Soul Explusion and many other US army outfits were actually released to the public. There were plenty of bands doing the US army circuit, meaning they went from airbases to barracks, playing for GIs only. John Harris was such a band. Non-US army folks weren't allowed to attend those gigs.
  5. Which one? Never heard of a german 45 only Dee Dee Sharp track.
  6. No, it's also on the Little Ann LP on Timmion. But if you want an original it's acetate only.
  7. I really like the record now, it's a grower. The strings are just fabulous. Pretty obvious they were added either by producer Fred Kersten or at least on his recommendation. European HQ of the US army was Heidelberg at the time. Majority of the german US army contingent was based in the area Kaiserslautern/Heidelberg/Frankfurt. From what I understand the band took the whole run pressed (~250) to sell them at army base gigs. IMO best chances to find any copies in Germany is were the army was based. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's a copy tucked away in the old AFN radio archive. It used to be here in Munich until early/mid 90s but was relocated to Frankfurt. AFAIK it's still there. 100's of 1.000's of records locked away.
  8. The stran is much more common than most people think. Ever since I sold my copy many years ago I was thinking about buying another one. Never did but it has been interesting to see plenty of copies turning up over time. They varied condition-wise so they didn't come from one source. Value went down over the years. I'd rate this 300ish nowadays.

  10. The other three were/are very popular german Schlager/Pop singers. God knows why producers thought Gerri would fit in.
  11. Well, apparently because of a "best offer". That could be any number between 1 and 1999
  12. Yes it was https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHAPTER-FIVE-YOU-CANT-MEAN-IT-1966-UK-CBS-202395-NORTHERN-SOUL-ULTRA-RARE-MINT-/171095977577?pt=UK_Records&hash=item27d61d6e69 but apparently listing was ended because of a best offer.
  13. Just played my Impact reissue. It's the later take. Not a bad one but yet not the original one.
  14. There's a Youtube vid of the coloured vinyl Impact reissue which is a different take. My Impact reissue is on black vinyl, at least 10/12 years old and IIRC plays the original take. Will have a listen tonight though.
  15. If you're not bothered about original or not, it was reissued on a jamaican yellow/white Impact! 45. Late 80s/early 90s I guess.
  16. Of course it's greedy. But on the other hand it forces seller to state reasonable postage in order to avoid higher Ebay fees.
  17. Somebody said in a previous post RD wasn't rude but misunderstood. That sums it up IMO. In one of my first orders I didn't play by his rules (sent money 'signed for' to his home address and not PO box) and received a let's say pretty straight forward letter lacking any kind of diplomacy. I was pretty pi**ed off back then and stopped ordering from him for some time. after some time I calmed down and started ordering again, but calling him instead of sending a letter. He turned out to be a pleasent guy to talk to on the phone and we actually spent at least 30 minutes discussing my football team before I placed my order.
  18. Yes. Good read actually.
  19. Also jamaican Stateside.
  20. Wow, didn't know that...

  23. PS: Am I alone in thinking this was probably recorded at a slower speed? It sounds just a tad too fast to me...
  24. If I was a mod I wouldn't have said "please". You were referring to somebody playing a reissue instead of an original of same price. Basically another dull and boring original vs reissue post. And off-topic. But seeing others joined you now I'll leave you guys alone with yet another discussion about playing out reissues or not.
