  1. Update: Current Bid €300
  2. TONY BRUNO - HOW AM I GONNA MAKE IT - HANSA (GERMANY w/ PS) - SOLD Shit-rare german only release. My own discovery from 2009. Fantastic gospel-ish uptempo dancer. Only a handfull of copies turned up since then. Check the unaltered sound file. The last confirmed deal I know of was £400 two years ago. I'm not looking for the same price but a decent offer by end of this week latest would be great Please PM. Record in lovely EX condition. Sleeve VG+ with a bit of sticker residue on front (see scan). One of Ian Levine's all time favourites (if that means anything to you ) and it's actually a demo Tony did cut for Kama Sutra Records and didn't even know it came out. Tony Bruno (full).mp3 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ worldwide P&P from Germany: £3.20 standard / £5.10 signed for / £7.00 fully insured (EU only) Payment Paypal only. As gift if possible but not necessary. Please PM for details.
  3. Sean, Julius Wright did get a vinyl release in 1969 or 1970 on a very obscure german-only LP.
  4. Also came out on french Dot. Had two copies recently and can't say they sold quickly.
  5. "We used" and "back then" are the key words. This is 2015 and not the 70's. Some terms have changed. Accept it.
  6. Pretty simple, "cover demand" are the key words. Tempests on Sevens would have been a reissue if it was legal. But I never heard of Tempests on Sevens. I know of Tempests on Stardust and that 's a bootleg because of lack of rights. It would be a first 45 press but not an original 45 release.
  7. Good question. Carvers sold are illegal presses. Carvers cut for home listening are ok in my opinion. I have two myself. But if you use carvers to play at dances you commit a crime according to OVO law and therefore you shall be tarred and feathered.
  8. Sorry, but that's just semantic bullshit. Basically, bootleg=pressing=pirate copy. An illegal release. Please don't get into anal details, e.g. like some major UK company didn't have the rights to release certain songs back then. Or the recording wasn't released at the time e.g. Bob Dylan's basement tracks. If you press a record to satisfy demand from the peer group without the rights it's illegal, a bootleg, a pressing, a pirate copy.
  9. excellent voice. Far from "murdering" the songs like others did when they tried to cover soul classics. But she's lacking deepness. Has she ever tried to cover a ballad? I once said to my wife if I'd ever be a judge on X-factor/xxx got talent/whatever show I'll ask them to cover Loleatta Holloways "cry to me". That's a song to separate the wheat from the chaff.
  10. My definitions: Original - first legal press. Applies to local and later national releases, both original. Releases in other countries can be originals too if issued around the same time, e.g. within 2/3 years after the initial issue, e.g. UK Stateside issues Reissue - much later legal re-release due to demand, be it from the Northern scene or Doo Wop scene or whatever. Independent of country of origin, e.g. most UK Grapevine releases are reissues even though they're first UK releases. Pressings/Bootlegs: both the same, illegal re-releases. Or illegal presses of previously unissued recordings, e.g. Bob Dylan's infamous basement recordings. Counterfeits: Pressings/Bootlegs made with every effort to look like the original presses. Have I forgotten anything? Edit: have amended the "pressings/bootlegs" bit.
  11. "what is a pressing?" - just another term for a bootleg. Period.
  12. Have posted this before but I hope it's getting more exposure now that it's available on a Kent CD, Julius Wright - Things will change: Youtube Link
  13. Thou have heard his version of "born a loser" is quite good Back on-topic: Carl Henderson - That girl. They should have repeated the first 12 seconds for say 10times.
  14. Whenever I had the chance to play it out loud, dancers loved it.
  15. Just a guess. Would explain the sudden demand, wouldn't it?
  16. Pete, you refer to the 70s. But it's 2015 now. Meanings of terms have changed. Nowadays a "pressing" isn't something done for the Northern scene, it's just another term for a bootleg. Or do you consider all the G2K's and 100 Club anniversary 45's pressings?
  17. I don't think so. It's probably just some kind of miracles of christmas. I was already gobsmacked when it went 200+. It's been a bubbling-under lesser known for decades and was, from what I remember, a 50/75 tune for many many years. But that's the power of massive plays. Maybe I'll make my copy available for the market now?
  18. First time I read that. IMO, pressing = bootleg. Any legal record that wasn't released before is an original, be it from the 1960's or 2000's.
  19. If a record is warped but plays ok, seller should have said so. I do when I sell a record.
  20. Not that I know of. Pete S claims he once had a german issue for sale. But no other proof so far.
  21. Collecting specifc presses is not sad. It's a weird kind of collecting habit about 99% of SS members can relate to. Good luck!
  22. Any specific reason what it has to be a demo? I know of a black label 12" issue that might be for sale.
  23. Wanted for sentimental reasons: ANN ROBINSON - WORLD OF HAPPINESS - UK HARTON Please PM with condition, price etc. Thanks!
  24. Well, looks quite different to the one I know: https://www.discogs.com/Sy-Hightower-I-Know-Youre-Leaving-Me-Wild-Love/master/531896
