  1. Correct from what I recall. However I don't recall his real name. I really like My Little Cottage. Lyrics a bit odd. But a strong Allnighter tune nevertheless.
  2. Very interesting read, thanks! 'Whip your loving on me' came out on german Vogue as well. I once had a date stamped demo Nov 21, 1970. Don't know how accurate that is. Nice pic sleeve. I attach a scan I nicked off Discogs. Can supply better quality scan from my collection if you want? I think 'Please operator' also came out in Germany but am not sure.
  3. How about Chairmen of the Board - Give me just a little more time. To me sounds like a pure 60s winning formula Motown tune with a slight early 70s touch (no surprise as it's a HDH tune)
  4. Just a bit of trivia: Jimmy Radcliffe's vocals/lyrics were ad-lib.
  5. Wasn't it something like different label colours for different music styles on Verve? Like black Verve for Jazz, dark blue issues for Soul/R&B. Demo-wise I recall yellow and light blue. Are the red/orange ones maybe some foreign press, e.g. Canada?
  6. can't find it Anyone with a link?
  7. I like this a lot. And also "the other one" by her, Happy Faces. The latter one I once described in my fanzine as "turbo-powered pop". Lorraine's still active by the way: https://www.lorrainesilver.com/index.html
  8. Another push. Anyone? Cash waiting...
  9. Ian, my understanding is that Virtue was predominantly a recording studio used by a huge number of Philly artists/producers. Therefore the number of Virtue acetates in circulation doesn't really surprise me.
  10. Well, I asked him for run-out details of Earl White Jnr and he never replied. Maybe because he knew it wasn't an original.
  11. and she still looks as stunning as she did during the Wand years.
  12. Check Popsike. Recent copies of Arthur Alex went for less than $100. So not really a huge bargain. On the other hand, Youngblood Smith is a bloody bargain....
  13. None of them my cup of tea, sorry. They're just not good. Hope you don't consider to play them out at a party?
  14. It's from 1975. Probably released on the back of the Route release success. Wouldn't be the first continental release released the same time as a british reissue. E.g. Chubby Checker YJDK on spanish London.
  15. Don Thomas around 25 quid on Discogs. Don't know how much Harold Melvin is. It looks lovely though.
  16. So do I. Played at literally every Mod dance I attended mid/late 90s.
  17. No too keen on Jaibi. Never really understood what's so special about that track. But 2nd release is a blast. Best tracks of both Kent Ballad CDs on one 45. Wow! Order on its way. @Ady: Do you have the rights of Arthur Freeman - I want to come home?
  18. I'm definitely not in the mood of starting an argument. But it's you that don't get it. Do yourself a favour, look up counterfeit in a dictionary. Counterfeiting DOES NOT refer to the music. It does refer to the medium. You can counterfeit a five pound note. And by this you don't counterfeit the value of a five pound note. You counterfeit the appearance of a five pount note. period.
  19. If you're not sure if ownership of an acetate entitles to release it legally to the market you don't even know half the score you're trying to make us believe. I give you a hint: It does not. Imagine a writer giving his mate the draft of his latest novel because he wasn't happy with it. does it legitimate his mate to print it and put it on the market? Of course not. Also, a counterfeit is an illegal replica. Look up the dictionary. Not just a reissue. A counterfeit is made to look as close as possible to the original. That Rita thing on TRC and both Motown LP tracks are therefore no counterfeits but illegal reissues. I agree with you when it comes to definition of bootleg in the wider record collecting world. it's first and foremost pressings of previously unreleased live recordings. However, this is the Strange World of Northern Soul. Where 40 years old records are called "Modern". So shall we rather stick with the definitions everybody's used to?
  20. Dave, thanks a lot for posting, some great tunes. As it happens I came across the Bretby 1st Anniversary 12" the other day. One side 70s, other 60s. Were the 70s tunes played in the Modern room? I understand the "NY City walkers" one is an uncredited acetate you played?
  21. Yes, Recordshack is still in business. I said it before, what's so funny to me about this CD: Back in the late 90s I did a homemade CD called "For Modern Millionaires only vol.2". Sort of unofficial successor to Goldmine's For Modern Millionaires only. Only a few copies made that I gave to friends. The CD you're after is more or less a carbon copy of it, bar 2/3 tracks. And it's probably as legal as the one I did.
  22. "sad little girl" is by Les McCann, LP only track. Are both sides of the pressing credited to Cory Glover?
  23. Are you really playing stuff like this at soul venues?
  24. Among the best he did. So Impressions-ish...
  25. That bloke is a sure joker. Kissi Jacobs on Blackjack @ 100 quid ("Fantastic Virtually Unknown 60s Female Northern"). He forgets to mention it's a 1990's press done by that infamous bloke in Las Vegas. What was his name Richie Rosen or so?
