I'm far from being a traditional northern soul fan. Infact I'm quite into new non-retro sound releases. But this one here, I'd say this is isn't soul at all. more like some cosmic balearic trance whatever underlayed with some beat.

yes you're right. adjusting pitch would be much harder.

And not just scratching. It's also easier to mix your records.

I'm no fan of national tournaments especially when germany is involved, so I follow the euro less than half-heartedly, maybe quarter-heartedly. But anyway, my teenage daughter watches almost every game. And based on what she told me I predict the final to be: a) spain - france or b) spain - germany (just realized, this is bs, they will be playing against each other in the quarter finals)

Yes, a more recent bootleg does exist. Don't know how to identify it but I understand it's of very low fi sound quality.

Charly Records was mentioned quite often in the "end is nigh" thread but didn't want to hijack that thread. I noticed that out of the blue Charly Records (weren't they bankrupt?) rose again and are releasing many 7" and LP's aiming for the Northern Soul market. Many of the 7" seem to feature alternative takes or unreleased tracks. Some of these alternative versions seem to be tailormade productions (Ian Levine again?). And then there's that "Levanna" comp which causes quite some stir. Does anybody know the story behind this flood of releases? Who's behind them?

Many thanks! It does sound like Little Anthony. Yet in parts the vocals sound a bit too fast. Like it was speeded up. I'm not sure it's him. Anyway, nice recording. But no Northern Soul appeal in my opinion. Like right in the middle between Kiki Dee and Derek Martin

Even though green was probably the predominant colour there are plenty of legit black Challenge 45s around. Knickerbockers, Champs, etc.

Now that's something that I've been puzzling about a long time. Not if the Volumes on Pama does exist or not. I think it's established by now it doesn't. But why on earth would somebody fabricate such a fake scan and publish it? For what purpose?

A few months ago I bought a job lot of 45s. Among them were ~80 UK Pop demos from the mid 50s to the mid 60s. Most were single sided with an "empty" groove on the flip. This one here looks just like one of those pressings.

I bagged Penrose Showcase vol II on a lovely picture disc pressing. And am gutted to have missed Johnnie Mae Matthews I have no choice reissue in a lovely looking pic sleeve.

The times that sweet soul 45s are only bought by US and Japanese collectors are long gone. It's mostly UK and continental Europe collectors increasing the prices these days.

None of the Seventy Seven copies on Popsike have the same song on both sides. They all have the correct flip "Try something new".

I got a couple of issues stored away somewhere. Will post them here when I find them

Two nice Popcorn obscurities for sale. Not Soul by any means. But yet good productions that feature that certain sound that appeals to Popcorn dancers and collectors alike. As with many Popcorn records both would be way to slow to dance if played at the correct speed. But if you step it up a couple of notches they sound just right. BOBBY COLT - A MAN - FORD £40 No doubt, the better of both Bobbys. Big voice, large orchestra. Lovely tune and hunting melody. Only 2 copies on Discogs and they're twice as much. Looks VG, plays VG+.
