  1. it says "made in holland" on the label, so it's pretty likely to be a dutch issue, isn't it? anyway, it indeed looks like a regular dutch atlantic issue so i'd say original (and rather rare). hope this helps ...
  2. For sale: The Virgil Brothers - Temptation 'bout to get me - German EMI/Odeon issue with a nice picture cover (record EX, cover in VG++ condition). Despite them being an australian beat group, The Virgil Brother's version of the Knight Bros classic is said to be one of the best. I'm not sure about that but it's a damn fine big-vocal-orchestra-kitchen-sink-etc-production sort of song Unfortunately I'm not able to do any soundfiles but at least I can add two pictures, one of the picture sleeve and one of the label (the white sticker says "unverk¤ufliche musterplatte", i.e. "sample copy not for sale") so that little beauty can be yours for only 10 UKP plus postage (3 quid europe, 6 quid worldwide), Paypal preferred. no extra charges!
  3. just to make it sure (or shall we move this thread to "sharp end of vinyl"?): the boot is a copy of the west coast white demo? i.e. all multi-coloured issues or east coast demos are genuine?
  4. pretty obvious from the picture, its styrene with stick on label so it's an original, isn't it? but wasn't aware this was booted, when and why?
  5. album is called "do what you gotta do" and i think "let nobody love you" and "run like the devil" are complete crap compared to the other (original?) versions. just some sort of novelty value for both songs IMO.
  6. long john baldry also covered "let him go and let me love you" (flipside of ray pollard's drifter) and edwin starr's "sos". all tracks are on an album called "looking at long john baldry". quite a nice album, and rather cheap i recall...
  7. looks like a typical west coast parkway demo to me.
  8. i noticed that it increased in value recently but i would have sold it for 50 max. as it happens, i might have a copy for sale, any takers?
  9. it isn't, wasn't and won't be the first or last worse cover version selling for megabucks while you can get the superior original for next to nothing. but hey, welcome to the strange world of soul (and funk) collectors...
  10. do you mean the righteous bros version? i got that one, but on LP. don't think if it came out on 45 anyway, the label's called "moonglow" and the album's called "some blue eyed soul"
  11. i think it's more likey bobby paris did the righteous brothers's "night owl", isn't it? which came first?
  12. john speaker, german only 45 and way better than ben e. king. sorry no refoclip from me
  13. For trade/swap only: We The People - Making my daydream real. EX condition, 80 quid. for more information, please PM. TIA Benji
  14. hi christian, i'm pretty sure my wife got a copy. she might be willing to part with it if the price is right let me know by PM what you're willing to pay and I'll pass that on, ok? regards benji
  15. while going through my album collection in order to thin it out a bit, came across two album tracks by bobby vee that fit into that "alternative versions" scheme: let nobody love you (virginia blakely) run like the devil (kenny roberts) BTW, anyone with a nice copy of the kenny roberts release for me?
  16. bumping this one up, anyone with the final results? or at least for satin's "your love's got me"... cheers benji
  17. DANNY HARRISON now sold. will try to add soundclips soon. In the meantime, there are a few soundfiles on Manship's site: Billy Barnes The Sweet feat. Bobby Howard Willie Mabon
  18. sorry can't do sound file as i'm in the office right now. it's a lovely mid to uptempo R&B-ish dancer. maybe somebody else can help?
  19. a few nice discs for sale, all EX or better unless stated, prices in GBP, postage extra (about 3 quid to UK), paypal preferred Marva Allen - I'm thru with you - Excello W/D - 40 Danny Harrison - Girl, girl girl/Broken and blue - Coral D/J - 40 (100 on Manship's site!) Billy Barnes - I'm coming to see you - United Artists - 20 (small label wear) Willie Mabon - Got to have some - Formal - 10 The Sweet - Got to have more love - Smash - 15 (vg+) thanks, benji
  20. i'm probably not the only one thinking that but if had known it went that cheap i'd have placed a bid. sure a real bargain!
  21. another gentle bump for my club classics wants. anyone? moses & joshua - get out of my heart - mala jamo thomas - i spy for the FBI - thomas (with P/S if possible) bill blacks combo - little queenie - (UK or US whatever is cheaper...) benny spellman - fortune teller - bandy cheers benji
  22. when you quote a price from popsike you have to say that copy was only VG condition. i think it's far rarer than people think. but not that much demand for it as it seems to be unknown to the majority? midtempo it is, but sooo soulful it hurts i checked popsike, only 5 copies in the last 3,5 years. in the very same period there had been 10 copies of the cashmeres on HEM on ebay. demand vs rarity?
  23. have a few sorted now, any help with the others? cheers benji
  24. soundfile for the webs track anyone? i guess i got it all wrong, the song i was thinking about was probably something else. and of course, danny white wasn't west coast. i got confused by his releases on frisco which i thought was a san francisco label. of course it's new orleans
