  1. yeah but I've heard they have lousy bar staff at bicknell's and the owner isn't that happy if you put talc on the floor
  2. I think it's more like Butch/Keb/Sams tastebuds playing up nice backing but vocals are sooo weak and the song never really goes anywhere. certainly emperors new clothes syndrom here
  3. maybe worth mentioning that most of these DJ cartridges have needles that are not really "gentle" to the vinyl. I've been using Ortophon cartridges for more years than I remember and never had any problems with them. If there was a problem it was the needle which I used to replace every few months when I was dj-ing regularly. Get the "DJ"-needle for club work and the other one (forgot its name) for use at home.
  4. MID-WEEK BUMP. 4 Days left and still many bargains!
  5. The american seller who had quantities on F. Hymes (Rich Rosen? or at least seller was from Las Vegas) had originals and reissues of quite a few other titles for sale at the very same time. As far as I remember all F. Hymes copies were genuine but folks were a bit worried about that back then. Anyone confirm?

  11. just a thought, itsn't this thread about the most EXPENSIVE discs? and not about the rarest ones?
  12. Cookie, send Soul Source member Kevin aka "newer04" a PM. He lives in Canada and has loads of canadian 45s @ bargain prices. Picked up nice pieces @ $5 each.
  13. at least two copies, 1 Roger Banks and 1 Joerg Brenner here in Munich.
  14. PM'd you.
  15. definitely a bootleg.look at the tamla logo, so blurred it's obvious it was taken from another record. speaking of blurred, the poor print definition for both logo and title/artist is another hint.
  16. I agree, looks very "modern" to me too. Can't recall what the song is like but maybe a belgian boot? They did loads of pressings with original label design but used only one colour (usually black) if the original was multi-coloured. Does the yellow label match the yellow label of an original?

  18. it's not a bootleg. legally reissued and taken from the original master tapes I recall. Was advertisted in one of the very first issues of Voices from the Shadows I read (1991-ish??. I think it even was Rod Dearlove himself who had the reissue done in the states...
  19. Just to get my point straight for once and all. I found and still find Ian Levine calling anybody on here fascist totally out of place and disgraceful but I didn't comment to any of these posts because they weren't addressed to me. But your post was addressed to me, hence my reply. And now, please leave me out of your crusade or whatever your mission is. I'm neither on your side nor Ian Levines side. I'm just lurking and keeping my fingers crossed that this thread will go back to interesting stories about the days of the Mecca. Actually, Ian, I got a question for you if you don't mind: The other day you wrote that you started playing new releases because the 60s discoveries weren't up to your own quality standard. I understand that from the mid 70s on you played nothing but new releases. Now did it happen back then that you came across a brilliant 60s unknown you really liked but couldn't play because of your "new releases only" policy?
  20. 1) The message Trouble posted wasn't threatening it was insulting. bit of a difference, isn't it? 2) If threatening and/or insulting PM's are sent to a member it's an issue for the site owners/administrators. Consequences should be made by them and neither by you, me, Tom, Dick, Harry. 3) Please spare me with crap like "... your german system.." or "dictatorship ... sound familiar mate?". I don't see any relevance of what Trouble did to the country I come from. Now back to lurking for me.
  21. I'm only registered to a handful of german and international discussion forums (most of them not northern soul related) but they all got one thing in common: immediate ban for a member posting private messages on the board. James, if I was a admin I'd ban you for at least a week NOW!
  22. Ending tomorrow morning...
  23. PM'd you.
  24. sorry, wrong: BASF is a german chemical company ("Baden Aniline and Soda Company"). Why on earth they thought they should set up a record label I don't know...
  25. Dave, any chance of a priced list on here? Can't access your site from my work computer. Wish I had something of similar calibre to trade for James Lately. WHAT A RECORD! "tears are falling from my face" one of my alltime favourite 60s soul tracks...
