  1. I expected it to end much higher. Dug out the "British Northern vol.1" CD on Goldmine the other day. Released somewhere in the mid 90s, the liner notes quote prices for most tracks and Soul Joe Clements was 150 quid back then. Considering that much more commond 45s increased heavily in value, (e.g. Chants "Baby I don't need your love" have quintupled since then from 20 to 100), Soul Joe Clements didn't...
  2. Paul, well what can I say. You're almost right Have one offer now but not on SS, it's from a local friend who collects 60s Pop dancer, which Muriel Day perfectly fits in. As offer is rather low I'll probably put it on Ebay anyway. What amazes me, this thread got 300+ views. Is this some sort of voyeurism, like you 'have' to stop and watch what happened right after that heavy traffic accident The number of offers I got from SS members (=zilch) sort of restored my faith, that not everyone is obsessed with rarity and quality is still a major factor
  3. Lunch time bump. Remember, always open to offers!
  4. I bought my copy of David Rhodes soon after the market was flooded with copies and price settled to a more realistic 30 quid. Was surprised that back then people were still discussing whether it was a 70s or recent press. The flipside had a dull (IMO) instrumental with programmed instruments (and even stated IL in the writers credits), IMO that was a dead giveaway the record was done recently and not 30 odd years ago. Sold David Rhodes recently to finance other purchases but I still think it's a fantastic piece of 70s soul. Anyone who had heard both the Four Vandals when it was first played and didn't hear the programmed instruments immediately should have had their ears checked. I still like both tracks they did and it was nice to see "Wrong side of town" on the recent 200 Floorfillers DVD. To summarize my drivel: I think, David Rhodes and both Four Vandals are really great records, the latter are what "Neo-Northern Soul" should sound like nowadays. But the circumstances and made-up stories when they were released leave a very very bad taste...
  5. Well, I never said I knew another version. I just thought it was very unlikely to produce such a fantastic backing track and using it only once. E. Rodney Jones was a legendary Radio DJ who was famous for his "rapping" style, hence the local success of R&B time. Peace of mind apparently flopped in comparison
  6. Would you mind telling us what you're on about so that we other can join the little chit-chat between you, Phil and Marc? I don't think anyone said it doesn't bear any resemblance to R&B time?
  7. Here's a sound clip taken from the actual record. Quality improves further on in the song. As expected demand for this 'beauty' is rather slim to none so I'll put it on Ebay soon, I'm sure they know their Northern Soul Seriously, best offer by tomorrow (wednesday) night wins it. MurielDay.mp3
  8. One more added, remember a fiver each!

  10. So back to the orginial topic, anyone knows where the backing track came from? Was it like R&B time another Tuff recording used?
  11. I'd buy it but you're sure about the price? thought it was around 100???
  12. just played that, it's not
  13. "R&B time pt.1" is vocal (instrumental is on flip), uses the backing of Bobby Treetop "Wait till I get to know you" and yes, it's some sort of early rap. But so is "peace of mind". I quite like but more for the fantastic backing than for his "rapping".
  14. Does anyone know which backing track E. Rodney Jones used for "Peace of mind"? I know he used Bobby Treetop for "R&B time" but I don't think I've heard the "Peace of mine" backing on any other record... TIA Benji
  15. NOW REDUCED...
  16. Think you guys just opened Pandora's box I'll get me soft drinks and popcorn...
  17. When IL did the "Togetherness" article he tried to pass off Venicia Wilson as an authentic 60s recording, hence quotes like "the record I paid the most for in my whole life."
  18. With all the time, work and money IL put into it I wish he would have chosen a different singer, she's awful.
