  1. Oops, and said thread even called "Grapevine discography" Thanks a lot!
  2. I got a question that I consider to be one of the ultimate Anorak questions I understand that in the 1960s independent US labels used those brown paper sleeves if they didn't print their own company sleeves. Later on the white paper sleeves were used. Now the question is, when did they changed to white paper sleeves? Early 70s? Mid 70s? And speaking of sleeves, what sleeves did the UK labels use if they didn't have any company sleeves? Brown as well? TIA Benji
  3. Can some kind soul please post a list of all issued Grapevine 2000 45s please? I thought I'd them all but I have the feeling one or two of the later releases may have slipped through my net so to say. TIA Benji
  4. Offered a copy for 20 quid here on Soul Source 2,3 weeks ago but no interest in it at all. Put it up on Ebay where it sold for 32 quid.
  5. I know the flip about the girl with the big black boobs boots Used to have a copy which I sold last year and regretted that ever since...
  6. thanks but I already got a nice issue on its way to snowy Munich
  7. Paul, bootlegging legally issued CDs is something completely different and anyone doing this should get reported to the authorities, banned from venues or whatever to stop doing that. My post was only about homemade CDs.
  8. I think the question, is selling bootleg CDs ok or not, simply depends on the amount of copies and money involved. Knocking together CDs with the same old played out oldies and selling 100s of copies over the internet or at venues for ridiculous prices is not on, period. But selling a few copies of homemade CDs with not so obvious tracks for a few quid is ok with me. It's the natural successor to the homemade tapes that people used to sell at venues (or in some cases may still do), isn't it?

    Joe Jama

No matter what you guys say, I think Joe Jama is a fantastic tune. I heard it for the first time at the Bamberg weekender when Marc Forrest played it, fell in love with it instantly As I rarely go to venues nowadays it isn't overplayed for me as well. But I'm with you on the price tag, seems to be very inflated.

  18. Ask Ian Levine, sounds like one of his works. By the way, I don't think it's an amazing version. It's just another version IMHO.
  19. Marc, I'm confused. Which scene "10 to 15 years back" are you talking about? Berlin? England? Surely not the german scene in the early/mid 90s in general because a) nobody was fed up with Northern, R&B, Modern or whatever. It was across the board with emphasis on 60s soul and I don't recall you attending any german events outside of Berlin back then. So how would you have noticed? I travelled all over Germany, Austria and Northern Italy from early 90s to early 2K's and the music was always mixed. Maybe you got fed up playing "traditional" Northern at the Hip City club and moved towards R&B sounds but certainly not the german soul scene as it was 10, 15 years ago.
  20. I'm sure this number increases significantly once one of the Hamburg guys notices this thread. I have the impression they have dozens of different events each w/end. For Munich: no regular allnighters or soul nights as far as I know. Infrequent events (e.g. Soulful World Allnighter in march). There are a handful of club nights playing some soul inbetween but I don't think they'd qualify for a proper soul do.
  21. Is that a creamy coloured sleeve with a drawing of a marching band? Nice one, you don't see that very often nowadays... Re. Gene Middleton: To be honest I never seen or heard of that record. It looks like an independent german release, something you hardly see. I guess 99% of all soul music in Germany was released on major labels, or smaller labels owned by majors...The record itself, what is it? Is it a Hit or Soul or Beat or Gospel or Country or R&B or Western or even Polka?
