  1. Would you mind explaining what you mean? Is half of the song shite? Or is it the sound quality?
  2. Did I really sound that grumpy? Probably did.
  3. I'm not a fan of Motown or Stax. And why should I? I acknowledge their influence in 60s soul music. And that's it.
  4. Just looking at the scan, based on the poor print definition this is a lookalike bootleg and not an original. Bootleg https://www.discogs.com/de/release/16453581-Roy-Roberts-Legend-Of-Otis-Redding-Got-To-Have-Your-Love Original w/d https://www.discogs.com/de/release/598772-Roy-Roberts-Legend-Of-Otis-Redding-Got-To-Have-Your-Love
  5. From what I remember, it was a long time ago: The Tamla PS 45 was a giveaway to music industry reps/journalists/whatever at a convention/party sort of thing to promote the box set. The set was released in June 1994 so I guess the party was around the same time. Story goes most copies given out were thrown away or stored away due to lack of interest. But a few copies came to the market and the price rocketed. In 1995/1996 scene was mad for the tune so CK pressed it as a (licensed?) giveaway at his 40th birthday bash in 1996. So neither the Tamla or the CK 45 were commercial releases. However the Tamla 45 was the first legal release.
  6. The pic sleeve giveaway 45s from the early 90s turned up quite some time before the CK UK reissue.
  7. @Kelboy @Imperial C Mind if I use your pictures to create respective entries on Discogs? Both issues aren't listed there yet.
  8. Just my grumpy two cents before I go to bed: That Big Rodger Collins 45 is boring average R&B in my opinion. Definitely no allnighter material IMO. I'd even say I would be embarrassed to play this at a do. The Clock Stoppers 45 is a dull cover version. Interesting history of the band and the recording though. But if I had a copy would I keep it? Certainly no. Good night.
  9. I agree. Not soul. But well done. No idea why you think they should be played out at NS venues?
  10. I'm not familiar with UK tax law. But basically it's the same as german tax law. A record collection is an asset. Period. And if the value of an asset or the total sum of all assets exceed a certain threshold inheritance tax applies.
  11. to hand down/to inherit a record collection or to sell one are two completely different pairs of shoes tax-wise aren't they?
  12. Many thanks, much appreciated. Mind, english isn't my first language. So sometimes it's hard for me to understand lyrics....
  13. I like both cuts. Both proper stomping Northern. But what I don‘t understand is what he‘s singing about. Can anyone explain that to me? Lyrics don‘t make sense to me….
  14. Agree, though it seems to me that Chalky talks about "the scene" whereas Sooty talks about "himself on the scene".
  15. you have 180 days to open dispute via Paypal.
  16. Please no whataboutism. This isn't about Mr. Gordy and his business behaviour. My view on disco edits (or any edits that is): I'm fine with them (and there are some pretty good ones out there!) but as soon as they earn money with them the original artist (or whoever holds the copyrights) must be compensated.
  17. I just looked it up on Discogs. Coloured man wasn't a TV show. It was a comedy album written by Teddy Vann. Lord Darth Vader (aka James Earl Jones) credited on the album. Is he the voice in the YT vid? Voices are not identical to me. But the album was recorded a few years before he took over running the Death Star
  18. I wouldn't worry about post offices or delivery vans in a heatwave. It's if people have their mailbox outside which would worry me. Once sold a record to Florida. It arrived during heatwave and was left in an outside mailbox all day. This turned the record into a nice ashtray.
  19. If they had really made counterfeits of the Royal Esquires wouldn't it have been a pretty stupid idea to flood the market with them and see the price going down dramatically?
  20. It was an anniversary do so pretty likely it was a Northern Soul fan. But let's not talk about this any more. It's just when I read what @Soulman posted this annoying incident came back to my mind.
  21. Was told to "f*ck off back where I come from" at the 100 club a couple of years ago.
  22. NOS = new old stock
  23. Royal Esquires one of the worst deals I ever made. Was offered a copy @500, bought it straight away thinking I got a real bargain. 4 weeks later the NOS copies flooded the market. Eventually turned out seller (well known DJ) knew about the NOS copies and tried to get rid of his copy before price would fall. Not mad about this but it still leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
  24. help me out please, where's the mistake?
  25. Sounds reasonable, B-side is a nice lowrider sound. It used to be shit-rare and four figures before a few NOS boxes were found and price went down. I guess even though many of these unplayed copies are in circulation demand is higher than supply these days.
