  1. seconded. I'll eat my pants if this is a 70s production.
  2. Maybe? But I was more thinking about somebody, e.g. artist, going to a record pressing factory with the master tapes and his own designs for labels and sleeves, etc.
  3. A literal meaning of "private press" could be that it's a non-commercial press, i.e. never meant to be sold just to be given away. But whenever I saw this term used in a record description it actually means what Bob already said, a private press, personally funded, usually by someone who was involved in the production of the record, e.g. artist, producer, or friend/relative of them.
  4. And how about the flip "please don't go". So soulful it hurts. Though in terms of 'danceability' "those lonely nights" is the side to play.
  5. No problem. It's mono though it's some sort of "enhanced" mono giving it a bit of stereo effect. And it's THE Gloria Jones singing! Anyway, what I didn't know and really surprised me is that Jimmy McFarland is a blue-eyed singer.
  6. 100% agreement. perfect template for what a Northern track should sound like.
  7. seconded! just treated myself to a copy after I foolishly sold the first one a few years ago.
  8. Never said it's not a full length version. I just said it's not the stereo Rita & Tiaras take. It's by Gloria Jones and in mono.
  9. Mark, thanks a lot! Lovely version, bit sparse on backing but the group vocals make up for it. If you ever think of selling I might be ....
  10. Wow, that's nice. Funny Face Girl is a lovely song. Ok, I admit, pretty light weight and poppy but a nice tune nevertheless. What's the Chancellors track like? Similar to Gene Latter or completely different approach.
  11. For sale: EDWIN STARR - I JUST WANTED TO CRY - GERMAN TAMLA MOTOWN SOLD £80 including 'signed for' post worldwide! The one everybody's looking for. No 45 release anywhere else in the world. Rarely turns up with the original picture sleeve. Vinyl VG++, sleeve VG (bit worn but still enjoyable item) Went for £123 on Manship's! PM please to reserve. Payment Paypal only, as gift preferred
  12. I bought the download MP3s. Well pleased. $7.50 for all the songs is more than fairly priced. And just to point it out: the Gloria Jones take of Gone With The Wind is NOT the stereo extendend version that came out on Joy Boy. Completely different versions. PS: wouldn't mind an instrumental take of any of the McFarland's versions
  13. Len, note my spelling it's just the oldest post with "OVO" that dates jan 2005. Respective thread is actually about a flyer stating "OVO" and Mike asking what "OVO" stands for.
  14. The oldest post I could find mentioning "OVO" dates back to january 2005....
  15. Are you guys seriously turning a tongue in cheek freebasing thread into another OVO vs pressing discussion?
  16.  re. OVO: sounds like a disease, like "i just go diagnosed with OVO"
  17. George smith lovely!
  18. Fully agree apart from Cee Lo bit.
  19. sorry to hijack this thread. but i was wondering if it's UK only on 45? I know it didn't make it on US 45...
  20. of all three versions this is the best one IMHO.
  21. Some tunes are so obvious blue-eyed, it always puzzles me that some folks are surprised when told the artist is say caucasian and not afro-american. Other tunes e.g. Tony Galla do "sound right" so much I was quite shocked when I first saw who sang it (not that I didn't like it any longer after that)
  22. The Seminoles - Cheatin' heart - Hi-Lite Are there any other versions of this song? Or was it released under a different artist name? Heard it via the web last night. I'm sure I've heard it before but not credited to the Seminoles... Anyone? TIA
  23. Rare german picture sleeve... (and as it happens I have a spare for sale:
  24. For sale: Five Du-Tones- Shake a tail feather - German President (with Picture Sleeve!) £20.00 Very hard to find german President issue (1968/69?) complete with ultra rare picture sleeve. Only the 3rd copy I ever saw. Highly collectable for anyone into unusual releases from around the world. Record EX, sleeve VG+ Postage £3.00 worldwide, less within Germany. Paypal only. 25. Been discussed before, 90 copies pressed. On a side note: 2 of them made it to Munich and ended up with me. I won a copy in the Shades of Soul competition, 2nd copy came a few weeks later from a local funk collector who got it from the Ace/Kent PR department and didn't like the tracks ("not funky enough"). Shrewd business man I am I immediately traded one copy for 50 quid worth of records.
