  1. Email sent yesterday but no reply?
  2. Seeing the price tag that Ms. Vicki comes with it's hardly under the radar isn't it? More the case too rare to get wider exposure I think. Great sound nevertheless.
  3. What does mizax mean? And how do you pronounce it? Am confused....
  4. Get the album ("waters") on iTunes or so. Highly recommended if you're into Jazz.
  5. I love it. Such a haunting tune. Might be overplayed everywhere but as I rarely go out these days it still sounds fresh to me. Unlike that Papa Bear record that bored me the 2nd time I heard it.
  6. Mark Williams, blue eyed singer from NZ. Nice one, didn't know it came out on 45. Edit: quick google revealed the 45 made #13 in the NZ charts in 1977. Edit#2: not blue eyed
  7. I agree with you on all songs but Dean Parrish. He sure wasn't a "poppy northern white singer"!!!!
  8. First one is really nice, I like it. Second one not for me, didn't pass my Quality Control department.
  9. re. Mike & Ray / Sandpipers: Two of my alltime favourites! Mike & Ray, vocally a bit weak I admit but what a backing! The built up to the chorus is wonderful. Sounds fantastic played out loud. Sandpipers is just a perfect record IMO, there's nothing I would change in it if I could.
  10. You're wrong. It's a play on the Virgin Wolves, the Wolverhampton players that never scored (a goal)
  11. Ok. When I googled for it I found this bit here: "3) Northern Soul On Dvd Volume 2 .... Channel 4 1996. Features The Cleethorpes Weekender And Doris Troy's Appearance There". Thought appearance meant the live gig there. Was I wrong?
  12. There's a homemade DVD called "Northern Soul on DVD vol. 2" which allegedly features Doris' gig at Cleethorpes in 1996. I think I'll have the DVD at home. Can check tonight if needed?
  13. you may reconsider the prices of your "wounded" 45s.....
  14. Here's the track list: Side A: "Silhouettes - 1958" (credited original 1958 on the label) Get a job I am lonely Rent man Your love (is all I need) Bing bong lover Side B: "Silhouettes - 1968" (credited new - 1968 on the label) Get a job Not me baby Gaucho serenade Climb ev'ry mountain We belong together Haven't played side A never been into that 50s sound. Side B is pretty disappointing. New version of Get a job sounds like "can i get a witness" with different lyrics. Gaucho serenade is pretty cheesy and the lyrics are shite. climb every whatever is dull. We belong together is ok, good arrangement. Not me baby is a gem, period. Gives me goosebumps from just playing it
  15. mighty lover by a mile. I prefer proper lyrics and the whole arrangement is pretty tight. cool off being better? I ain't waving my hands like a fan but like saying goodbye to "cool off"
  16. Unless you're specifically after an US or german press, it came out at least in France and Netherlands (dutch production) as well. As I type there's a french copy on Ebay Buy-it-now for 9 euros. Pure value for money I think.
  17. Can't play the YT clip due to slow internet connection. But aren't this one and the Voltaires "my my baby" the same song just with completely different arrangements?
  18. Would have to dig it out but from what I recall, one side features some of their 50s songs whereas the other side features new 60s recordings with one or two 'updated' versions of their own material (e.g. "get a job"). From a Northern Soul view "not me baby" is the only worthwhile track.
  19. Little bump, auctions ending tomorrow night. All still at bargain prices....

  21. There are plenty of quality ballads/sweet soul tracks on the flip of 70s/Modern classics. Is it ok to post them here or are we sticking to 60s only?
  22. I remember when I bought that one I was pretty disappointed about the "northern" side but the flip definitely made up for that.
