  1. Awful record IMO. But as they say “One man’s Lavern Baker is the other man’s Helen Shapiro”. Or so.
  2. Anyone got #43 on Randy’s list? Rancid Polecat
  3. Not Northern but just an unexpected soul classic: Locker room at the local gym. Background music usually horrible euro trashy house music. Suddenly, without a warning: It's alright - The Impressions. Followed again by horrible euro trashy house music.
  4. Does anyone know how and why Sweet Temptation appeared on the UK Cascade compilation. According to the liner notes, one Lindi Waters compiled the record. Who was/is Lindi Waters? And how did they got hold of the track? Based on the sound quality it wasn't dubbed from tape but from a record.
  5. I'm still an absolute learner when it comes to Lowrider sounds. From what I understand not everything that is slow(er/ish) would fit into the Lowrider drawer. Many classic Northern Soul beat ballads don't. Others do. Which would explain the price increase for many 45s. Imagine not just one but two collectors scenes chasing the same tunes. I'd start with checking out the countless Lowrider comp's these guys did over the years. Many of them are on Discogs. Check the tracklistings and I'm sure you'll get a better understanding.
  6. Lowrider spectrum is much broader than just obscure sweet soul 45s from the 60s and 70s. The whole scene started in the 50s. And just like the Northern Scene, anything that would fit in is/was accepted, even if it wasn't Soul at all. And that would include tracks like like Santo & Johnny - Sleep walk.
  7. CLARENCE GREEN - DOIN' IT - AQUARIUS 1002 Funky crossover dancer. Not that easy to find. Last copy on Soul Source went for 150 in VG. Lovely yellow issue. Just one tiny visible but not audible scratch shy of EX grade. Labels clean. 175 GBP plus post from Germany. Please PM for further details.
  8. It wasn't. The Discogs pics were taken from a copy that sold for 2.2k on Ebay in 2019.
  9. don't know. The scan on Discogs looks quite convincing and 3 users claim to own a copy
  10. Having a senior moment, what's the track starting at 04:11?
  11. June Jackson is the JJ Jackson on Prelude. But not the "But its alright" JJ Jackson.
  12. It is true. At least on Discogs. Just checked. He has a couple of things from my wants list. But even with 50%off they are hardly bargains.
  13. Ken of Keith & Ken is Ken Lazarus. B-Side of the Xedo 45 is apparently “Cyclone” by Byron Lee. Apparently there’s no such song released by Byron Lee. Is it infact by another artist or even a cover up? (Which would incidentally confirm my belgian bootleg theory)
  14. Whoever created the discogs entry said it's probably a Belgian release. Somebody else later changed it to US release and apparently nobody disputed this.
  15. This record literally screams “belgian popcorn bootleg”.
  16. Now for sale as trade deal fell through CLARENCE GREEN - DOIN' IT - AQUARIUS 1002 Lovely yellow issue. Just one tiny visible but not audible scratch shy of EX grade. Labels clean. 175 GBP plus post from Germany. Please PM for further details.
  17. 21 copies for sale on Discogs
  18. Sorry but after all these recent R.I.P threads your post gave me almost a heart attack!
  19. CLARENCE GREEN - DOIN' IT - AQUARIUS 1002 - 200 GBP Lovely yellow issue. Just one tiny visible but not audible scratch shy of EX grade. Labels clean. A bit too funky for my liking. So I'd like to offer it to trade 1:1 for something less funky of similiar value. 60s Northern preferred. Can supply label scan/sound file if required. Please PM for further details.
  20. The market was flooded with Fred Hymes copies in the early 2k. Think they all came from "Brookly-Born" (aka Rich Rosen). Allegedly old store stock.
  21. Seems to be an issue with the bulk upload interface or users not filling in the template correctly. I've come across many items on Discogs recently that have silly price tags on first look. But on second look it's just the decimal place that is wrong, e.g $1850 instead of $18.50.
  22. 6 Discogs users claim to own a copy if that's of any indication.
  23. and after all, it's pure pop in my opinion. Be it by Arthur Prysock or Allan Scott or whoever.
  24. There's a Joyce Harris who sang with the Slades but obviously wasn't in the band (them being an all-male outfit). Texas release. Cholli Maye Gold 45 is from the east coast. Same singer? I doubt.
  25. Maybe it's the demand from the Northern scene that increases prices in absolute numbers. But I think it's been the lowrider/sweet soul 45s that are skyrocketing these days in relation to what they did cost say 10/15 years. And many if not most of them are bought by UK collectors.
