  1. Bought loads of records of him as you said a great dealer, with some good priced 45s and Lps his lists were well antipated by me. John Doe Music was his mail order business I think ?.
  2. Charly also put out one called "Up All Night" which was excellent, still available on CD but seems illusive on cassette.
  3. Read the article and all Dave said was someone had taken him to task about calling people "pillheads" in one of his columns which said hurt him because he said he would never call any human as such and never wrote it.He never once broached the subject of drugs in this article apart from the pill head reference, true he was not always right , I bought a copy " Love And Affection" Joan Armatrading after a great review in his column by himself, defo wrong on that pile of sh#t.
  4. Who was trolling who I do not do facebook so not seen any but with your post it obviously happens.
  5. Think he would be mortified, all the columns he wrote that I read his dislike of any plagiarism of black music was clear. So I think he would take the same stance as most on here have. As for spreading the faith Godin took great delight in black artists getting recognition and money in their pockets, he had no problems with reissues and positively endorsed them.
  6. Cheers Mark I will have a download of that, thanks
  7. Not worth that with the felt tip outline on the logo , hope he gets stuck with it.
  8. Looks like felt tip to me, looks like the other side has had the same treatment but made a f**k of that side and did better the second time on the other side. My eyes are not what they were though.
  9. Looks like someone has drawn round the Okeh logo with a black felt tip on this latest copy ?.
  10. So many fools out there with money to burn, the buyer of this one will probably be waiting with anticipation for its delivery to play out with pride at the local gig. As with everything do the homework.
  11. Thought the same yesterday when I saw this thread, do not like to see anyone getting taken in but the Info is out there now and parting with that sort of cash even more important you check out sites such as this before bidding.
  12. Spot on Chalky, it seems everyday Northern Soul is been exploited and used as a money tree to try to squeeze a few quid out of the di*ks you talk about. Just come across a so call Northern event with the promotional blurb " free glass of fizz on entry and 2 course meal and dj till 12.30". That's as far away from what it was as I can imagine.
  13. Looks like things are speeding up and the idea is catching on, a string of concerts going by the name of "The Northern Soul Classics Orchestra" are touring around the same time. https://www.msoproductions.co.uk/shows/the-northern-soul-classic-orchestra/
  14. My thoughts exactly, and not one of the original artists will benefit from this circus.
  15. I would have thought it's target audience would be such as us , wishful thinking certainly, but it is not targeted at Punks, be good if a poll could be organised on here to see how many members are going to one of the concerts.
  16. I imagine the proms have celebrated all kinds of music from the Beatles to Abba so it was only a matter of time before Northern got the treatment. As a one off no problem to me but now comes the payback the concerts, lps and merchandise and money for the promoters, who then add extra dates. Sorry to see our great scene reduced to BBC radio 2 level.
  17. I WOULDN'T see him singing anything
  18. Billy Ocean , good shout , I am sure "Love Really Hurts Without You" and "Red Light Spells Danger" would go down a storm
  19. Frankie was just a name I threw in to the pot , he is on his farewell tour with Maze but I would have thought with the success on record and his touring in the decades since the northern records a gig doing songs from his 60s work would not get him over here . Eddie, good call but he has gone gospel and is a minister i believe. Think it will be a few old brit acts, Ruby Turner maybe ? .
  20. The problem for me is it is just a tribute type thing, no different to the Abba, Billy Joel things doing the rounds, might sound ok to those that like light entertainment but it is not the real thing and you will not get the feeling you get when you have seen one of your heroes in the flesh which is part of the concert experience for me, hopefully they have performed good but even if not, you have seen them. Each to there own I suppose.
  21. Rita Graham is still out there as is Frankie Beverly.
  22. I was thinking more in the likes of people who's records have been played on the scene. Hard task I know with the passing of time.
  23. Any thought who as original artists would you like to see perform with the orchestra that would make you buy tickets. Unfortunately lots are no longer woth us or to old to perform , so it does narrow it down.
  24. It's a concert by an orchestra playing popular northern soul tunes with special guests ? In my opinion no different to the tribute bands peddling their gigs around clubs albeit this is definitely more polished. Nothing to do with the northern soul scene as we knew it. The proms night I watched and enjoyed mostly but let down by a few poor vocalists, but obviously with the success of that concert comes the commercialism of the thing, next comes the album especially looking at the success of the Stewart/Holland, Swing album which has just hit #1.
