  1. Fortunately this site and a few other venues still provide a outlet for people who frequent this site to still enjoy the music and discuss it too. It seems like a matter of letting divs get on with it and holding our heads high and trying not to watch YouTube videos which I find quite hard a bit like not watching the bad things on the news you know it's going to be grim but cannot help it.
  2. To me the whole point of going out to venues was to listen to records that were played that I could not hear anywhere else and did not own and put together by a forward thinking dj with a ear to the dance floor. Going out to hear music played off a laptop, memory stick is not what northern soul is about, ok for the nightclub knocking music out for the punters on a weekend. I have embraced technology for my home listening but for the soul events vinyl only for me.
  3. Sound clip on Charly website.
  4. What happened to the music? it just seems about dancing now with the "Johnny come latelys" back in my day the music was the bug and the dancing followed. Most of the newcomers seem to just want to get out on a weekend get pi**ed and dance in the same formulated way. Glad that the music is my passion and still going strong 50+ years later. Good job there is still some events with the original ethos and sites like this where like minded individuals can have discussion.
  5. Can't see your problem, you ask a question and awaited answers and most people said Reggae at Soul do,s was a no, which is fine by me. I like reggae but I keep it separate when I play it at home, i.e I will have a few days when that is all I play but never mix it with soul to different in my view to play together , so going out and hearing it mixed with soul is defo a no even at the end of the night.
  6. Thought some may be interested in this video Martha doing some soul instead of her usual hits.

  7. How people dance is a totally an individual thing to me, I am enthusiastic at best What seems to bring the scene in to ridicule these days is the baggies, towels, vests etc. not a good look these days on anyone even worse on the over 60s Leave the baggies to the Bay City Rollers reunions.
  8. At least the venue is at the right place Blackpool home of the circus.
  9. Soul is my main love but I am partial to reggae and ska but at a event not for me no problem though with a different room playing reggae.
  10. The femme backup on the Philly tracks were credited to the Sigma Sweethearts.
  11. Great album and great to see the Aretha track on a new release and Pickett too an all round top LP.
  12. Don't think anyone disputes the fact that there were two groups named The Manhattans this topic went a bit awry with the posts saying one of the Debonairs said they did backup with the Carnival group.
  13. The Donnie Elbert track is a big favourite of mine the stereo version I have on an All Platinum sampler blows away the 45 cut though, the strings really come to the fore.
  14. According an article I have just read the femme backup on the Carnival stuff by TheManhattans was provided by The Lovettes.
  15. Way the quote from one of the Debonaires reads to me is that the backing vocals were recorded in the sixties and used later in the seventies, improbable at best.
  16. According to the album which the single was took off the femme back up was Linda Creed, And The Sigma Sweethearts - Barbara Ingram,Carla Benson and Yvette Benson. The sweethearts also provided femme vocals on Kiss And Say Goodbye recorded at Sigma by the Manhattans.
  17. It is on the pop side but hardly disco but sometimes I like to listen to records that just flow along and brighten the day especially on a summers day.
  18. Love this track off the above CD, also done by Major Lance. Got a seventies Miami groove to it.
  19. Thank you munchin for the pics and info much appreciated.
  20. Hopefully you drop the idea she could have been an exotic dancer. I found it a bit disrespectful.
  21. I get that we know who Kitty from Sam & Kitty is I just cannot fathom out why you took a picture of a exotic dancer from a Rotations concert poster and linked her to Kitty Groves the singer other than sharing a first name. Think your imagination ran away with you on this one. I
