  1. One downside to cds i can see is that some great soul music that got released on cd only will probably not get the exposure it deserves on the dance floor because of the vinyl only obsession . Some great stuff got released cd only, some of the Malaco stuff comes to mind amongst other great stuff.
  2. David Porter = If I Give It Up Want It Back and the reason had it in my hand i sent for it for a mate off the internet.
  3. Would any of these ever seen the light of day on vinyl Ian ?
  4. As good as British Gas customer care, f##king rubbish.
  5. Even though cds may not be the favoured medium for most people on here without it loads of great soul music would still be languishing in the vaults , you can,t get 70 minutes of music on one lp. And its good to see Ace making some cash out of them and long may it continue.
  6. Ain't that the case with all formats, we all own more music than we ever play and we are always buying more.
  7. My heart has been uplifted by this thread i thought i was an isolated case who was buying Soul by the dreaded format of cd or downloading.
  8. Not surprised you had loads of boots.
  9. Even though the vinyl thrill has gone i still like the feel of something physical that cds give, but times change and whatever we think downloading is the only way we will be able to buy new released stuff in future.
  10. Not gone down the iTunes route yet, and if cds can't compete with iTunes what chance has vinyl got , what a f..k about playing a record is.
  11. The Del Larks , maybe if you had said Spyders other record maybe it might be a bit more of a challenge.
  12. Got to agree about the Goldmine CDs , Kent put them to shame .
  13. The informative booklets are sometimes worth the cost of the cd also.
  14. I've hundreds of cds and not one is knackered , maybe people think they can abuse them and they will still play ok , they still need to be looked after like vinyl and not left lying around like people seem to do with them.
  15. Sorry to say but for me vinyl is dead and why its on the increase i can't understand, give me cds any day .I still get the collector thing though , thats totally a different thing , but buying new released vinyl over cds don,t get it at all.
  16. They probably did , Paul Rex was the in shop at the time in Rotherham for great clothes, can,t even get a branded pair of jeans now , how times change.
  17. Chose because i'm bald and and it shines.
  18. Can't see how or why a reggae record should be played at a northern night, i love both soul and reggae but to play reggae at a northern night is beyond my comprehension even if its only a one off.
  19. No thats true, he also wrote a book about needlepoint.
  20. Loads of clips of him performing on Youtube.
  21. Probably the same guy who played football for the New York Giants and recorded on several labels over the years also starred in films and tv series including the Man From Uncle also had his own TV series and is now or was a Minister.
  22. Doris Duke = Congratulations Baby Roy C = Shotgun Wedding
  23. Canns was on Chapel Walk selling instruments ,sheet music and records etc.
  24. Trying to remember the clothes i bought from all the shops mentioned which would have included my first Crombie , Dr Martens boots , loads of Shermans and Brutus shirts , Levi Sta Prest , Fred Perrys and Slazenger jumpers. Also the accessories the ready folded jacket pocket hanky wore with a tie tack the red and lime green socks the black brolly , never owned a bluebeat though with my ears i would have looked like Freddie Parrot Faced Davis.
  25. I also thought there was a Paul Rex on Castle Street in Sheffield just below from the smaller branch of Suggs , but its a long time ago so i could be wrong .
