  1. Didn't go to the Chapel All Nighter , was that the only one thought there was a big stink about it , i think it made the local rag The Advertiser, along the lines of been held in a former place of worship. Only went to 1 Harlem Shuffle at the Bailey Suite then on to the now demolished Herringthorpe Leisure Centre.
  2. Couple of flyers here the Bailey Suite one was around 89 the other early 90s i think.
  3. The Sound Superb lp also contains the brilliant Hey Love too. Easy to get for about 7 quid.
  4. Never on a single also on a budget album on Sounds Superb called Uptight .
  5. Yes thats what it reminds me of .
  6. Been searching for one for the last 25 years thought i had found a copy but when i placed my order it had been sold, only a twenty quid record and British only. The record is The Original Africans - Sting Me on President.
  7. Mark Barkan is a very strange one wrote pop for groups including the Archies plus wrote the Banana Splits theme tune and was musical director for the show , but also turned his hand to soul music the one that springs to mind is Kurt Harris Emperor of My Baby's Heart plus his name is on a few other Northern tracks. He also wrote Stepping Out Of The Picture Johhny Maestro, and the oft recorded Help Yourself plus the awful Lost Summer Love Lorraine Silver.
  8. Great , but the polar bear looks bored rigid.
  9. Are the names suggested on the list for a poll ok ?
  10. You picked a nice track.
  11. Nearly 56 and buying/listening to soul music since i was 14 and still hearing something i have not heard before and that will probably be that way till i die that Soulmine has got a deep seam.
  12. The names of artists who got more than one mention by different ss members is JACKIE WILSON MARVIN GAYE JAMES BROWN AL GREEN LITTLE WILLIE JOHN OTIS REDDING LITTLE RICHARD Take a poll from that list of talent
  13. Include all the names listed on this topic up to today.
  14. Would a poll be appropriate for this topic , but we have to vote who we think influenced the beginning of Soul Music, not our personal favourite artists.
  15. As in all opinions it's about opinions , we are talking about a music that it's peak was in the 60s and 70s , we all have our favourites, who was Soul Brother number 1 ? , who cares Soul music moves us to this day .
  16. Can see where you are coming from but the man never recorded a single after 1961 so he hardly made a impression in the soul market a forerunner maybe but Soul Brother number 1 hardly . As an aside he was the brother of Mable John and also served a sentence in prison for manslaughter. He died in 1968.
  17. The 70s issues were staple diet for soul enthusiasts like myself and countless others when you are about 14 or 15 it was the music that counted not owning original us releases that came later it was only buying those releases that i became more aware of this great music that we adore to this day . I,ve still got loads of mine and would never part with them i still know where i bought most of mine the Jay Boy ones are very cherished .
  18. Some great names in the mix so far but Johhnie Taylor has not been mentioned, to me one of the true greats also one who spanned the decades from his Soul Stirrer days his recordings on Sar, Stax and Columbia Beverley Glen and his masterpieces on Malaco , the man was recording great music right up to his death and he would still be doing so.
  19. Thats great I'm off to watch the match now my favourite player Colin Bell is playing
  20. a At 7000 us dollars it should make anything sound good!
