  1. Don't bother Peter same old same old , Al Wilson, Frank Wilson, Chuck Wood , you get the picture I am sure.
  2. Possibly, maybe, who knows.
  3. Still feeding the birds here got goldfinches a Robin and a few blackbirds and a few bluetits and fortunately the woodpigeons are doing me a favour they wait for the goldfinches to feed and eat the residue that they drop so no mess under the feeders at the moment and I also check before dusk for any waste food and clear up , so hopefully no vermin encouraged. Watching the antics from my kitchen window is one of my early morning rituals and delights and surprised how much to see even In my medium sized garden.
  4. Did not know that but I would imagine that the ease of getting food in urban areas has also led to the boom in numbers in towns and city much like the seagull population I was watching about 50 seagulls yesterday catching the thermals in the sky and they are now on the local playing fields in the morning looking for worms or insects I would imagine, then hitting the local landfill later I would imagine.
  5. Think the woodpigeons have urbanised, when I was young never saw one outside of the countryside now there nesting in my back garden and loads on the roofs around here they also seem to have changed diet to eat anything put in front of them even donar kebabs seem on the menu lol. Sadly I have not seen or heard a song thrush for years.
  6. Katherine - Ben E King
  7. Wendy's Gone - Ronnie Mcneir
  8. Yvonne - Jerry Williams Baby Jane - Otis Clay Wake Up Susan - Detroit Spinners
  9. The birds on my feeders are now returning, been quiet since the breeding season finished, I assume plentiful natural food been available for them. Plenty of Bumblebees on my fuchsias and hoverfles, just had half an hour on the garden and a dragonfly was milling about, I usual go outside about 9pm to watch the bat's catching insects. But as most posters above wasps seem to be scarce and only seen a few flying ants emerging from my lawn it's usually teeming with them about the end of July. Also saw a sparrowhawk try taking a starling from a flock in a nearby elderberry and then it was mobbed by 3 magpies. Is the fact that councils are now not cutting grass verges regularly and leaving them to run wild helping the insects and maybe that has a knock on effect from visitors to our gardens ? only a suggestion.
  10. Think that was Millie Small and "My Boy Lollipop", Peter
  11. Great to see some cheap lps getting some recognition this lp and the Anita Baker lps are well deserved mentions.
  12. Surprised you thought she was underrated, the two Caught Up albums were massive sellers in the U.S. and I remember at the time Blues and Soul getting behind these albums and I was the first through the door for the first album on delivery to my local record shop. Her albums prior to those were good too as were few after but sadly her material got a bit smutty and although most lps after had few tracks of note the rest were quite poor, but I will still remember the thrill of hearing those two albums in the Caught Up series and how they changed my outlook on soul music forever. Vocally Millie is up there with the very best in my opinion.
  13. The 2016 reissue on "Be With" as stated by other posters above.
  14. Looked through the thread and no mention of the great Johnnie Taylor, two from me to correct that " Super Taylor" and " Eargasm " both of which still get plays from me.
  15. One of my faves by Barbara
  16. Those two are perfection in every level .
  17. The Dramatics and the lp "A Dramatic Experience" is a lp I still keep coming back to even to this day some killer ballads/midpacers on this wonderful album.
  18. Listening now to the Lou Courtney on Spotify, seems like a missed a winner I do own the single though "Somebody New Is Lovin On You" but never really gave it a chance , too many records and not enough time to give some time to hit home.
  19. I mentioned "Still Caught Up" in a later post, nothing to choose between them in my opinion and the rap to the song "Leftovers" is sublime and the venom Millie spits out in the song is brilliant. Much to my shame not heard the Lou Courtney album.
  20. "Is That Enough" one of Marvins best songs from the seventies nearly 8 minutes of perfection.
  21. " Still Caught Up" is on par too but it was the first one that had me the same thinking as you too.
  22. Not a great fan of live albums but James Brown " Live At The Appolo " and a non soul album Bob Marley " Live At The Lyceum " are two that capture the vibe and feeling of the night on vinyl for me.
  23. "Caught Up" Millie Jackson
  24. Maybe the reason for no mention of Otis is because i thought ? the main gist of the thread was records that changed the musical direction of black music in the U.S. example R&b to early soul then the Motown Sound then to more funk and album oriented stuff and seventies sweet soul, not records that had an influence on British listeners. Or maybe I am wrong as usual ?.
  25. Thank f*** it never came about the thought of Jones doing those songs and others in Detroit with Motown does not dare thinking about. Jones at Motown nearly as big as tragedy as what happened to Delilah.
