  1. Rita Graham is still out there as is Frankie Beverly.
  2. I was thinking more in the likes of people who's records have been played on the scene. Hard task I know with the passing of time.
  3. Any thought who as original artists would you like to see perform with the orchestra that would make you buy tickets. Unfortunately lots are no longer woth us or to old to perform , so it does narrow it down.
  4. It's a concert by an orchestra playing popular northern soul tunes with special guests ? In my opinion no different to the tribute bands peddling their gigs around clubs albeit this is definitely more polished. Nothing to do with the northern soul scene as we knew it. The proms night I watched and enjoyed mostly but let down by a few poor vocalists, but obviously with the success of that concert comes the commercialism of the thing, next comes the album especially looking at the success of the Stewart/Holland, Swing album which has just hit #1.
  5. Tickets for the Sheffield gig are £44.50 to £86.50 some special guest vocalists appearing it says in the ad
  6. I will interested to see how many turn up to see the concert at the Sheffield City Hall I have seen numerous acts there over the years including Marvin Gaye, Temps, Four Tops, Edwin Starr,Jr Walker, Maze amongst others and most were not that well attended. Hopefully a flop and that idea will be put to bed before it really gets started.
  7. Thanks for that, great as always .
  8. What would the green first issue be worth ? I know nothing to go on if none have come up for sale recently, but a rough idea
  9. Certainly, I bought a copy early seventies at a local record shop never thought it was anything other than a boot, the shop used to stock loads of boots such as James Bounty, and Eddie etc. Surprised there was much doubt about the small archer stamped one.
  10. Here Is Barbara Lynn, great album.
  11. Female artist from me now , strangely I have not really bought female records in anywhere near the quantity of male stuff but strangely if I was to pick my top lps they would do well Doris Duke the 2 Millie Jackson Caught Up sagas , Jean Carn. But the one I would say is my favourite is Barbara Lynn a very consistent artist and great songs with thought provoking lyrics The first record heard by her by me - This beauty
  12. Cheap too , I love his version of "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day" on Sar. From Sar to Malaco the man was outstanding , sadly missed.
  13. Couple to go at,got loads of artists who I anticipated their new releases and bought these two stick in my mind because they answer both questions , first record and fave artists Changes - Johnnie Taylor Trying To Live My Life Without You - Otis Clay
  14. Great record in its day but was played out in the early seventies, and so out of vogue now I would have thought , if I heard it out now it would be a groan from me.
  15. Link to a earlier thread on the same subject. https://www.soul-source.co.uk/forums/topic/65532-hickory-barbara-mills-queen-of-fools/?do=findComment&comment=688849
  16. Old Thread here.
  17. I would have thought the drill hole was the easier way to identify deletions for no return , gold paint splodge on a record seems to be a laborious way to do it even on few records never mind thousands.
  18. Fairly apt Peter with the photos the plant is also known as Dog Wood , and then the picture of Ace.
  19. Why is it that a lot of average pop singers are getting a lot of air time on Soul Source lately ? There is enough real soul music from America to keep me i going for the rest of my life without having to check out the likes of Texas even if it is recorded at Muscle Shoals, Soul it ain't.
  20. That's some life you have lived , I was still playing conkers and climbing trees at 13 and been shouted in by my mother when it went dark
  21. Hope you mean "doing great things"
  22. Read Karen's response after your post.
  23. That dance should go down a storm in Bristol.
