  1. Cheeky !! & I've realised after reading another thread that our paths have crossed over the years. It was great seeing you at Radcliffe & I'm glad that both of you are playing out again !! The Hull crew that used to go to Bradford & stand at the front of the stage were a guy called Cal,his sister Joanna & their brother Mike (I wont mention their surnames as they might not like it). There were two brothers who also used travel from Hull with them but I dont think they were twins. Also a really tall guy called Mike (who I bumped into recently at Whitby). I havent seen Cal,Jo or Mike since Bradford but I am in touch with Jo from time to time so hoping to drag her out somewhere soon then you might recall them. Anyway Dave .... not forgetting Pete. Welcome back ! & welcome to soul source ! ATB Ali x
  2. pmsl Dave at your post. All those people you mentioned I know (apart from the squad of course!) so maybe our paths have crossed. When I was upstairs I used to hang around the edge of the stage with the Newcastle crowd (not too far from the back stairs) with people like Gazza,Snowden,Jaxy oh damm & loads more who's name escapes me at the mo. Sometimes used to stand in front of the stage with the Hull crowd & South Yorkshire folk. When I was up I was up & when I was downstairs I was at the side where the snooker table used to be but the opposite end (near the little stage). I loved both rooms at different stages of BQH and I cant remember any dodgy ravers spoiling downstairs - but there again where did I leave my whistle & glow in the dark gloves (tee hee hee!). Great to hear your recollection of those wonderful days. ATB Ali x
  3. Wow !!!! I dont know that much about records but how interesting & very sweet if it is her mum who sang on the acetate (excuse me if Ive used the wrong phrase-like I say I now eff all bout records). Im a pushover when it comes to a nice ending tho so here's hoping all concerned reach a happy ending. Thanks for that Mike. Alison x
  4. Mine's (as if you couldnt tell) are ALL the Bradford Queens Hall anniversaries The reason .... they were just awesome. Northern upstairs & Modern downstairs with plenty of people mixing between the two rooms. Some did frown on this act but hey ho I was well up for both rooms. I s'pose because ALL of my top nights were spent at BQH its hard to pin point the anniversay as been the best anniversary nighter but I guess they must have been. Wilton Ballroom anniversaries of course come 2nd to my beloved BQH and not just cos of the quality of the night but they do give out the best anniversary gifts. Classy pin badges 2003 was a record box design,2004 was a record in a white sleeve design,2008 blue rock label design pin badge ... oh the list is endless. So Bradford Queens Hall in 1st place with Wilton Ballroom coming in 2nd ATB Ali x
  5. Im with you 100% on MJB !!!! I wasn't a big fan of hers or her attitude at first but over the years I've grown with the lady, her voice & her life & she just moves me like no other female singer has done. I've seen her "No More Drama" tour & "Love & Life" & even though she had the awesome Chaka Khan supporting her - it was just that Chaka supporting Mary ! Mind blowing!! There is of course many many other female singers I do admire also but it wouldnt seem right mentioning them in the same post as Mary so I wont. She is the one !! (IMO). Al x
  6. I was sat on the same table as him many years ago at the Canal Tavern in Thorne & he's well into his soul - not that I got from him... he hardly uttered a word all night. Had I being a bit older and not the shy girl I was then I would have MADE him speak to me ! (chuckle-cos I still cant get my emoticons working) & maybe later he could have shown me how he potted his balls so well (sorry - couldnt resist) Ooh also a couple of my mates run a modern do over at the Chesire Lounge in Lymm and thats part owned by Tony Knowles & he is often there on the night. I dont think he is into his soul like Steve was/is but its still nice to see him down there. What is it with me & snooker players ..... why cant I bump into some footie players !! Al x

A version of "Never too much" off the most recent Thelma Houston album (bout 8 months old is the album). First heard it played in the modern room by Bob Hindsley at the Whitby Weekender. Verrry nice. Another one is off a cd of modern tunes done for me by Tony Coleby recently but avnt got a clue what its called as he's just titled it Rani's Mix (if u dont know TC, Rani is the name he gives to his better half). He reckons he doesnt know what its called (Mmmm - I think he does but not letting the cat out of the bag). Talking of tapes. I have quite a few that I love & cherish and one is one that Keith from Eccles did for me (I never did know his surname) in 95 I think or whenever Mik Lyons was running the Empress Ballroom in Blackburn cos thats where we used to bump into Keith the most. Under the moon is on there - Im crap with artists think its Rufus Lumley ?? but I could very well be wrong so please excuse my ignorance. Ive kept all my old tapes, not just cos of the music on em, but the people who did them for me. Im gonna have to dig em out now Richard thanks to you so no doubt there'll be more knock out soul coming my way that i'd forgotten about. Cheers Ali x

Keep me posted on your birthday plans & I'll help you celebrate it ..... wherever you are !! Ali xxx
  10. Hey soulman! I'm going to New York mid September (1st time for me in the big apple ! ) so if I stumble across any whilst on my travels I'll let you know when Im back. ATB Ali x P.S Erm .... why do you only want the half decent shops ? lol x
  11. Ha Ha ! I have to agree Malc. No one & I mean no-one quite does it like Al & Jean !! I guess the line in the song "its so much better the 2nd time around" DOES NOT apply to little Lulu !! Cheers Malc Ali x
  12. If it dunt av 2b Norvern Phil I'd say .... Al Johnson & Jean Carn - Im back for more (choking up just writing the title-gulp!!) There's no sense in me fooling myself there is no sense in avoiding yoooo Since you been gone I cant think of nothing else I just cant last a daaay without yoooo 'cause everytime I think I'm over you You cross my mind & wake up memories There aint nothin left to do But come running straight to you And let you know just whats on my miiiind Im back for more Of that love that we had before Im back for more of that you & me Like before -oooo sweet harmony Im back for more Of that love that we had before So many nights of just remininiscing Trying to find what my life was missing We were lost but now we've been found Its so much better the second time around Its fascinating to see love regenerating From all this time that we have been waiting There aint nothing left to do but come running straight to you And let you know just whaaats on my miiiiiind !!! (that bit HAS to be in bold cos my heart just wants to burst out when its yelled from the record!!) Absolutely awesome tune (for me anyway) I'll get back to you on a Norvern one Phil as there is a fair few out there but thats the one that just hits me right there all the time I hear it. ATB Ali xx

Hi Jayne I thought wtf when I saw his post too. Very harsh it was & completely uncalled for. You are a good honest decent person Jayne so dont let his silly post get to you. Lets hope in the cold light of day he realises what a stupid statement he made or if he does have a grievance with something that may have happened in the past he does it by p.m where you will no doubt tell him to Fxck off (joke!!). No seriously you will no doubt be the amicable & understanding person you have always been & may be able to calm him down for whatever reason he has a bee in his bonnet over. I went to Bury Town Hall on Fri for my little fix of modern & the new guys running it did a tremendous job for a first night (ooops I guess he may have a go at me for trying to promote a soul do that I have absolutely nothing to do with ). Keep smiling Jayne Al x
  14. Thank fxk!! Im sick of talking to old school friends on Face Book. There's only so much "ooh is he with her now" and "oh how does she do that for a living when she has 7 kids" you can take in ! Bang goes my early night now this little beauty is up & running SS we have missed you so much (well I have) ..... please dont do it again !! Ali xxx
  15. Im with you on Stormy Theresa !! Jesse Davis almost had me in tears when he sang it a Cleethorpes. Thanks Ken for posting the clip (sorry I still dont know how to multiquote!). Right Im gonna go listen to it again & cry some more xx
  16. No need to apologise you daft un! I know what you mean about surnames tho. People dont know that Im Lady Hamilton (well the people who read this thread will do now ). I must admit I thought your surname was Franklin for years so we all suffer from the surname syndrome - actually at times I suffer from the first name syndrome also . Aaaw Steve's mum was a real part of that night & I bet she is still missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Im signing off now as Im completely shattered - all the brilliant sound clips, the memories & this banter about what we got up to 18 years ago is as if I've been doing it all over again ..... only now I cant take the pace . So nite nite to my fellow BQH's Im off for some Al xxx
  17. Phil Johnny Kearsley is from Wigan married to the wonderful Sue (I cant remember Sue from Bradford but met her later at various soul nights/nighters). They still get out & about occasionally (last saw them in March at my birthday party ) but as they have become grandparents recently they are spending time at home with the family. You will definitely know him. He was as mad as you & .... still is Al x
  18. Which brother ?? I knew Paul,Jeff & Barry (I hope I have got all their names right) & there's another brother I think but as I only met him once and I cant recall his name. Aint seen any of them for ages. They did a stint of running the modern room at Winsford which was brilliant. Nice set of lads & Paul's wife Julie was such a lovely lady (hope they are still together). If posstot (ha ha trust one of them to have a name like that!) wants to remain annonymous will you pm me which one it is & I'll say hello to him. But in the meantime I'll say helloooo ! to all of them on here ! Naked Music Rules !!! Al x
  19. Aaw Richard ! Nice of you to join in this homage to Queens Hall. Crofty !! I would love to bump into him & his mum (I think she was called Betty) She was a real good sport staying up all night with us lot making sure we were all fed & watered. Aint seen him since Bradford closed which is a real shame. I did bump into his co-promoter Adrian (the quiet one with dark hair & glasses-he'll kill me for saying that) at Prestatyn a couple of years back and y'know somat the jammy bugger hasn't aged at all & is still a lovely guy. I think I chewed his ear off most of the night about how great BQH was & how we needed a re-union. Sadly I dont think the upstairs could facilitate a re-union as I believe there is a bar in the middle of the dancefloor (thinking about it that could be handy for some punters!). Im not sure what is going on downstairs (just like back then) so maybe there is a glimmer of hope if Crofty & Adrian ever read this read. I know people will think get over it & move on and believe me I have tried & altho I do have awesome nights at other places nothing quite does it for me like Bradford did. (I think I should change my name on here from Alison H to BQH Forever !!) It was good to see you again at Southport even if it was just as I was leaving ! Thats Southport for you ! Ann Nesby stole the show for me. Take care Richard & see you somewhere soon. Ali x (BQH Forever!!)
  20. Pmsl Jill at YOUR post. Oh girl why did I go shopping today & get piss wet through when I could have been on here chatting & laughing away with you. You are so funny & I do remember them 3 great tunes from Bradford. All the best Ali x
  21. Surely not ?? It must have gone on longer than that. Mind you if it was every two weeks at certain periods then I s'pose thats why it might have felt like it went on for years. Im with you on the best time I ever had and that does go for the whole of BQH - Upstairs & down. from 87 right through to 92 Nothing compares for me I'm afraid. Al x
  22. Hey Nogger ! R u still supporting Scum ? Aint seen you for ages. Winsford I think was the last time but that was years ago when they had a modern room. Me & the 3 Teresa's used to have brilliant times there. No it cant have been that long ago since Ive seen you. Anyway where-ever it was Im sure it was fine .......... as long as you weren't wearing a scum shirt !! All the best Ali x
  23. Aaw thats great to know he's ok Paul. He was a lovely fella & no doubt will still be a lovely fella. I've still got the tapes that he used to bang out at Bradford. Seasons of a Dove etc. When you next see him or speak to him will you tell him the young lass from Leeds (well I was in those days!) that came round to his flat in Manchester with Derek Pearson & a few others many moons ago says a big hello & sends him her best wishes. Cheers Paul Ali x
  24. That is awesome to listen to as now that Ive found out how to turn my volume up on here (I havent had this laptop long!) its great hearing people chatter & swear (still shit hot!!) in the background & remembering the atmosphere of the place. What date in 91 did you record it ? Ive just checked one of my many diaries & this weekend in 91, 18/5 to be precise good old Queens Hall was on. I dont think I missed any so Its freaky to think that 18 years ago when I was dancing away without a care in the world I would be listening & feeling the atmosphere of the exact night all over again sadly from the comfort of my own home this time but its still good & bizarre as well. How nice is that Steve Mancha song. It makes me want to cry but I wont. I guess you didnt like Sandpipers cos you certainly cut that one short Right thats me done, off to bed now (huh wouldnt have been saying that 18 years ago tonight!) THANK YOU for your brilliant recording. Goodnite & godbless Ali xxx (a happy little soul)
  25. Yeah ! Ive just hammered it too but I couldnt work out how to turn the volume up. Not the same when you have to shuv your ears right up to the computer - I would give owt to be getting ready now for our fortnightly fix of Bradford oops I mean Bratford. I loved both rooms equally. I know not many would flit between the two but I did & I feel (imo) I got the best of both worlds. Ali x
