I would say 1000 quid of the value of that goes to that intro with the guitar. What a blinding introduction. KTF Jas

"The Happening" by the Supremes is unforgiveable. So is "Rhythm of the Night" by DeBarge. Was going to say Stevie 'I Just Called" and Charlene. What atrocities those are, too. You guys and gals beat me to those. "Happy Birthday" - tribute to MLK by Stevie Wonder is bad, too. Don't forget about an LP on Gordy called Kagny and the Dirty Rats. It was a black guy and a white guy dressed like new wave homos, playing this high energy synth rock music. The "Last Dragon" soundtrack has a few stinkers, too. In the 60s, I'll go with Bobby Breen on Motown, Hillsiders and Dorsey Burnette on Mel-O-Dy. "We Call It Fun" by the Headliners on V.I.P. is a bit disappointing, too. Recently I found an LP on Motown called "Gimmie Dat Ding" by the Ding Dongs from 1970. It's a photo of some hats and banjos sitting in a pile of peanuts. Had the Twistin Kings LP on Tamla years ago but can't remember if it was good. Glad somebody stuck up for Bob Kayli. "Tie Me Tight" is a really nice popcorn/northern r&b numer. KTF Jas

"How Long Do I Have To Wait For You"-Sharon Jones-so brilliant Sven Zetterberg also killer! Back in 1996, there was a group called For Real on Rowdy records who had a song called "Like I Do". They were an r&b group like EnVogue. I knew this record was not going to do well because it was retro 60s sounding. I was used to the usual insipid R&B tripe played on TV and the radio. It shocked me that they would even do this record. Of course, we never heard from them again, obviously because they couldn't be marketed. I picked up their whole CD in a $3.00 used bin. I remember thinking that there were a few other decent songs, but "Like I Do" was a stand out track. Is anyone on here familiar with "Like I Do" or the group For Real? I would imagine that they could have been more successful in the UK. By the way Dayo, 'A Girl Like You' by edwyn Collins sounds familiar because the back beat of the song is a 4 second sampled loop of "1-2-3" by Len Barry, with the occasional 4.5 second loop to add in the drum rolls. Also-must give a mention for Lou Pride "Bringing Me Back Home" on the Kent Modern Soul Masterpieces CD. What a great song! I LOVE IT! KTF Jas

"For Real" by the Flowers on LaExpressio or Keni Burke's "Keep Risin' To the Top" on RCA. The intros on those tunes are like perfect theme music. KTF Jas

YOUR HURTIN' KIND OF LOVE!!!!!!!!!!--Killer track don't remember which LP, though. Seconded---Where Am I Going is the best LP for northern soul appeal. No matter what you do, whatever you pick up will be worth it. KTF Jas

"Fell In Love" by Oscar Wright on Hemisphere as I just recently picked it up. Will post a sound file as soon as I'm able. KTF Jas

I've noticed a tradition in New Orleans songs that refer to taking women down to the river and drowning. Feeling a bit ill at the moment. I'm thinking Alvin Robinson or something. For dodgy suggestive lyrics refer to "The Iceman" by Billy watkins on Era. Too weak to type the lyrics out though. KTF Jas (loud hacking)

Very nice track, Trev and agreed, a perfect listening companion to Wash & Wear Love. Cool label design, too. Thanks for sharing that with us! Really enjoyed it. KTF Jas

I'm all for sniping. Keeps the bid honest and lets the chips fall where they may. I'm tired of these dick measuring contests with the bidding and records going way over what they should. Too many people living above their means because of this type of stuff, you know? You go in with a figure in your head and you win and you've spent way too much and next thing you know you're like 'what the hell just happened?". You know what you're willing to pay for a record, so place your bids and lay the cards on the table. Win some...lose some. KTF Jas

Here's what I do: UK-$6.00 for a 45 and $10 for a 12". $2.00 each additional LP/$1.00 each additional 45. Price pays for 4-7 day air mail postage and puts money toward proper mailers and packing materials. You can be sure you'll receive your record in a proper mailer with good padding(mostly bubble wrap) and a $1.00 "gift" custom on your slip. And anybody that buys anything $150.00 and up-if it's just one item or 100 items-I ship absolutely free. and--I NEVER SHIP SURFACE! I've unknowingly low-balled some shipping prices before but ALWAYS honored my original price. Some people don't understand the value of cultivating a good relationship with your customer. If they're good ebayers, I treat them like friends. Would you ask a friend of yours to keep coughing up more money? Think about it. I look at it this way-if somebody's spending decent money with you, what's the sense in gouging him/her for another dollar or two....how lame. These people really need to check themselves. Good luck to you, man. Make him stick to his original offer. KTF Jas (majorwaxbuildup) ps. Have a look. Lots of 12"s but I've got some northern in there. Make sure you look all the way through, though. 3 pages worth. https://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ2...majorwaxbuildup

Finally got home to look it up. JM says 100 quid. Is that high for that record or about right? There is a local guy here who is going to sell me one, but it's the typical situation. I pull out a record, he doesn't know what he wants for it...has to get back to me. I just want to have all of my facts straight before I do the deal. KTF Jas

Anyone have a price on this one? Little Tommy / Mr. Wiggles 45 out of Richmond. Any help apprceiated. KTF Jas

As for Queen Latifah, some of my favorites by her are "Wrath of My Madness", "The Evil that Men do, and "Princess of the Posse". I really rate her early rap sides, so I'd be curious to hear her singing. She's really come a long way since 1988. "Hello Stranger" is a great song and I usually like every version. There is a nice version by Carrie Lucas from 1985 on Constellation/MCA and one of my favorites is the Alpha Zoe version on HIT. I included it on my midtempo swap CD. JOT-I'd like to hear the version you and Ali are playing. KTF Jas

Pete - definitely not saying everything on Shrine is brilliant. I'm just saying that it seems redundant to do something like that. After all of Andy Rix's legwork and Kent's final result, it seems kind of cheap to stroll on up soon after, with something that offers the same stuff and doesn't bring any new light to the situation. Plus, Shrine is obviously a connisseur's label and not for everyone, so more than likely, those who buy it will probably want the whole thing-both Kent volumes. There's loads more stuff to put out. i'm tired of seeing the same stuff over and over again. KTF Jas

Kent is truly a top class operation and I very much look up to Ady and respect all of his musical endeavors. Top quality material and the sound quality and packaging is unparalleled. One of my dreams is to someday own my very own reissue label, very much in the mold of Kent, if anything, just for my own satisfaction-no matter how well it does financially. I would rather put out three CDs a year done right instead of taking loads of fluff with no background notes on the tracks and spreading it out over many CDs, without proper remastering or proper licensing. Umm...why did ANOTHER Shrine comp come out? Can somebody please tell me? Vol. 1 and 2 on Kent were sufficient enough, thank you. We, the punters are mostly connisseurs of music who deserve to be educated and enlightened when we purchase one of these things. I hate buying the same tracks over and over, too. Kent has always maintained a high standard of excellence that can always be depended on and rarely ever repeat tracks. Who did Dave Godin want to work with to make CDs...that's right-only Kent. Couldn't have been anyone else. There's a lot to be said for that. Well done Ady. Your tops in my book and your CDs are the best! Can't say enough good things about you and your operation. I think it goes without saying that you're in this truly for love of the music and not for a quick buck...and that's keeping it REAL my friend! Thank you. KTF Jas

I've been to this web site and looked at all of those amazing sleeves. I signed the guestbook and received a very kind e-mail from Johnny Spencer a few days later. Definitely worth a visit to see how he gives the appearance of these records a whole new dimension. Very cool stuff from a very cool guy. KTF Jas

Put a soundfile of Ella Washington's "Trying to Make You Love Me" in the sounds section. Enjoy! KTF Jas

Of course, for the 900th time... Salvadors-Stick By Me Baby-my#1 favorite. You can almost hear a gospel influnce with the background singers and the tambourines. You Got To Have Money-Exits-Jimmy Conwell is one soulful dude. Met him and confirmed that. The ballad on the back of "To Much" called "Let it All Out" on Gemini also deserves mention for a seriously soulful delivery. What a quality singer he is. Just Loving You-Ruby Andrews-no need to even discuss this tune. Just brilliant. Masqueraders-Do You Love Me Baby. Got to agree with Derek Pearson that Lee J. has one of themost soulful voices ever. Although I think "Average Guy" by them on AGP is total masterpiece and one of the most beautiful deep soul records I can think of. What Price-Nathan Williams Somebody Somewhere Needs You-Darrell Banks Home Is Where the Heart Is-Bobby Womack & the Brotherhood So many more... KTF Jas

Boy...was I let down last night. I went into my 12" sinlges boxes and pulled out an unplayed Tolbert 12" on Rojac only to find that it had "Lucky Man" on one side and "Got to Be Free" on the other. Thought I had the hard song and I totally didn't. DAMN! KTF Jas

Found this on the net: https://whthmusic.com/ Scroll down to click on Sonny Hopson's bio and photo albums. https://whthmusic.com/New%20Sonny%20Hopson.htm There are pictures of groups, old tickets, flyers, etc. Saw a photo of Herb Ward and all sorts of cool things. https://whthmusic.com/Album1.htm I picked up his Philly archives 1969 radio broadcast CD not long ago. Great stuff! Kicks off with "Love Want Ads" by the Emanons. Anyone have an Emanons sound file? There's also a commercial for the Vibrations coming to town and "Cause You're Mine" is playing. I think there is a sound file on the site for it too. Enjoy the site! KTF Jas
