  1. Could it be that the crap you're dragging out of the grooves is the furniture polish you just applied? Whatever work for you has got to be fine but, to my way of thinking at least, if you apply polish to a dirty record you just have a shiny dirty record.
  2. Given his penchant for bulling up all his auction items to the max I think JM missed a trick with the John Woodson 45 as the B side, Chilly Willy, is a nice little upbeat tune.....probably not how John would have described it in his sales blurb. I'd dispute his reason for the 45's scarcity however as, despite the poor editing the song was released again, without being remixed or any alteration, as a B side on PAM-O 104 in Canada.
  3. Toby Legend Mala Demo has been mentioned earlier in the thread. I bought one $6 ebay buy it now + maybe $6.50 shipping back in 2008 when the exchange rate was around $2 to the £. The whole deal cost a little over £6 for M- with just a drill hole in the label. For the internet/ebay shopper that period in time, and prior, was great. Very easy to find stuff from the comfort of your arm chair and often where there was one 45 you'd find more.
  4. While we're on the subject I may as well plug this site as a point of reference - https://www.pdrws.co.uk/ Compiled by Peter Richmond the site is a mine of information. I'm sure Peter would also welcome any additional information anyone may have for inclusion. The Moonglow label has been mentioned in the post above this and of course Bring Your Love To Me was released as a 45 on this label. Also there's the Some Blue Eyed Soul LP with a couple of good tracks one being their version of the classic Night Owl, which had a UK release as a B side on PYE and could be another 45 for consideration. Slighty off topic there's a few interesting 45's among the Moonglow "5000 series", and Moonglows subsidiary PEP Records. Best known I guess would be Bobby Mac - Keep On which saw an outing on Moonglow 5019 as well as the Original Sound OS-68 release, but also Sugar & Sweet on PEP 103, Lulu Porter on both Moonglow 243/ PEP 101.
  5. 7 SHOWMEN - YOU'RE WORTH IT ALL quote "Only Known Copy" unquote - factually incorrect.
  6. A couple of good ones The Van McCoy Strings - Sweet And Easy Renfro Orchestra - A Case Of Love (Doctors Theme) this ones a boot recently mentioned in a recent thread re Renfro demos. San Remo Strings - Lonely One (posted below) from the LP "Swing" - an essential LP if you like instrumentals.
  7. Will no doubt be a monster long thread......just where do you start? Would love to pick any 60's/early 70's Motown and related song but I can't narrow it down to even a handfull, instead I've chosen something else, just because it was drifting from my young sons bedroom earlier. He's off school ill but playing through the box of old 45's I gave the kids years ago.......bring 'em up right an all that. Donny Hathaway - Someday We'll All Be Free
  8. All the following lightly scratched in; Renfro 127 - A then an oval with DD inside and finally R - 127 - A all in a different style/font than my other Renfro 45's. One most reminiscent of being a demo is The Stunners - Nobody But Me - 120.
  9. Then there's the earlier one I mentioned - Dana V. Andrews - "Mr. Justice" / "Mr. Justice" Instrumental (Davida Records) No label # but precedes the other releases as it's year of release is 1976. Also mentioned earlier was the 12" single DVD 1003 - Bean Brothers - "I'm Glad That I'm Me" / "Feel The Groove" from 1981. You can also add another 12" single - https://www.popsike.com/Private-gospel-funk-modern-soul-REV-BJ-FEARS-hear-it/280648189454.html This last one is DVD 1002 so there could potentially be a DVD 1001 to be found.
  10. It obviously sold well, hence being picked up by Paramount. You do see all conditions, some have been hammered. I guess it's a case of dipping your bread when you see a nice copy with this one. Still don't know if the original person posting the want bought a copy!
  11. Thanks for confirming. Pretty sure I saw a very clean copy on ebay in the last couple of years. Problem being, if they don't include a sound file, it's hard to know what's actually on the disc. I'm fairly confident it was the same 45 though given the unusual, possibly unique, label design.
  12. Vague imagery indeed. If I remember correctly it almost looks like a label cut from the picture from a page of a magazine (not glossy) or something....not accurate but best way I can describe it. Thinking back the one I almost bought had some text "stamped" on in ink. Just looked on the net and without any bother found another SCM copy $5 NM condition..........never any need to pay much for this 45. Just waiting for the seller to get back to me.
  13. Enter what you sold it for that's the"actual cost" value, and that's all you can actually prove. For all any one knows you could have sold it for what you originally paid or even at a loss.
  14. Keep all the packing......might be needed in evidence.
  15. Just looked at the form in the link above, have I missed this? Thought you just put the value you sold it for with the evidence to support.
  16. 100% sure it came out on a Jamaican press. Seen on ebay and nearly bought a copy going back 5 or 6 years.....it was too rough. The one I remember was not a "blank" label as such, although there was no reference to the actual artist or title. Suffice to say there is usually a US copy for sale cheap somewhere on the net......great tune.
  17. If you send RM all the evidence then it's should be quite quick, at least it was for the couple I claimed for that were lost. Not sure if this link will work, if it doesn't just searching for Royal Mail claim form will get you there, then at least you can see what you need to send them. https://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/P58-Int-FINAL%20APRIL%2012_0_0.pdf
  18. So who bought them then?
  19. If it's groove wear you can usually see it as greying or dulling, either in patches or all over. Sometimes it's obvious, others it's more apparent in certain light, or when the surface is viewed from a slight angle. Obviously having said that it's not so easy to see on a very scuffy record compared to a glossy one. Maybe not applicable in this case, but another thing to bear in mind, is that some jukeboxes played the 45 in a vertical position causing more wear on one side of the groove than the other. Add to this that the stylus on such a jukebox will be prone to more wear on one side than the other, which in turn could lead to it damaging even the lesser played singles in there. This can be one, but not the only, cause for distortion in 1 channel only on a record which is otherwise clean with good gloss. As has been mention in post #8, playing a mono record in mono rather than stereo can help a lot.
  20. Will this one do? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THE-VILLAGE-CHOIR-Talk-To-Me-Sometimes-The-Switch-SCM-1000-on-SCM-45-/170998459190?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item27d04d6b36 Or you can have a dj copy - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VILLAGE-CHOIR-The-Switch-Talk-To-Me-Sometime-funk-vinyl-45-/310385210915?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4844667623
  21. For whatever reason they didn't seem to settle on a logo/label design......changing it a few times. I posted a scan of the Dana V Andrews - Mr Justice 45 in the refosoul forum & it looks like a hand drawn logo on that one. Anybody care to post a label discog?
  22. It's a good label. Couple of other things on there, Bean Brothers. Davida seems to be an amalgam of David Futch and Dana V Andrews .
  23. US issue - https://www.popsike.com/FRANKIE-CLASSICALS-Northern-Soul-45-CALLA-Records/4785399043.html The US Calla 45's number C-127 B is the 2:28 slow spoken intro version. C-127-BN is the 2:00 version. I've seen at least 3 US issues with the spoken intro on ebay.com between $20 and $30 "buy it now" over the years.....not minters but reasonably good copies.
  24. Everyone would agree you are wise to state both if they are different, as in the case of some badly pressed, or styrene, records where you could have a new old store stock 45 that plays lower than visual grade. You often see them described as "visually M- plays VG+" or whatever.
  25. The CD "Philadelphia Sweet and Deep - The Deeper Side Of Philly Groove" appears to credit Major Harris as vocalist. I don't have the CD so can't say if there's any info in the sleeve notes to confirm.
