  1. Justis Brothers - Count On Me, which having just played not sure if I prefer the flip, I'd Do It For You, now. Reggie Taylor - Copyright Your Kisses. A few others including, Soul Bothers, Inc on Commonwealth and Christopher Blue on Ramco which I have a spare copy of now.
  2. This thread could possibly be merged. Numerous posts re Global Shipping here - It's worth reminding that it's possible, in some cases, that the seller is unaware that the records they just listed on ebay.com have been defaulted into ebay's Global Shipping Policy. As such it's always worth asking the seller prior to bidding/buying an item as they may be blissfully unaware. Of course equally they may also be well aware but could be open to opting of out of G.S.P. for a confirmed sale of a particular item........then again there may be some form of delusion going on.
  3. Looking back through the thread has Jimmy Radcliffe had a mention?
  4. Couple more today + 1 at the sorting office requiring a signature. Miss Ann Littles - I Will Be Got Dog & Oscar Perry - If It Could Be
  5. No surprises from me, Jackie Wilson & Aretha would get my votes. Really rate Willie Roundtree but, sadly like so many others, there's little material out there.
  6. Following up from the above post, in response to a question I just asked the same seller about the record I mentioned, where $13 International Shipping is stated in the description but when you try to buy the 45 it shows as approx $18 + $13, I got the following reply from the seller - "I went in and found out that some how the global shipping preference was on yes so i just opted out of it, they said it could take 72 hours?" It does look like a default setting in this case. Anyhow, it didn't take 72 hours to alter in this instance, I bought the record and was charged $13 shipping.
  7. Sorry for the belated reply but the response from the seller took a few days then I forgot about it. Anyway the crux of the reply from the seller was - "Thank you, I don't know how that global stuff started...........I will try to find out thru ebay" Which suggests it's now a default setting in ebay, which this particular seller wasn't even aware of. This sellers listing gives his International shipping as $13 in the description but I'm looking at a record now which ebay is quoting $18 odd shipping + another $13 odd import fees.
  8. Probably this isn't the right thread to post this clip but it's in reference to a record I mentioned in post #575 which may not be instantly obvious that it is in fact the same song, albeit "live", sung by the same artist. It's always good to see these performances so here we have The Fearsome Foursome - Since You're Gone (aka Roosevelt Grier - Since You've Been Gone.)
  9. Had a few arrive this week, among them these arrived yesterday. Roosevelt Grier - Since You've Been Gone, Newby & Johnson - I Want To Give You My Everything, Elanthony - Will You Wait/Sweet Jo-Ann (upgraded my copy), Gene Faith - I Fell In Love With An Angel, The Reknown - I Can't Go On/Can't Get Enough Of Your Love (which is typical garage soul from this Little Rock MY Records label), and Rod Bristow - Bye Bye, So Long.
  10. La'Shell & (The) Shelletts - My Soldier Boy Over There
  11. Having a second go at this after giving the subject of this thread some thought. I'll go with The Ethics - Think About Tomorrow.....again any verse as it's hard to pick just one. The 1st maybe, or perhaps the last.
  12. First song that came into my head..........Timi Yuro - It'll Never Be Over For Me........pick any verse you want.
  13. I wouldn't normally add a comment in sales but they are white guys, from Nebraska. I was in touch with a couple of the band members a while back. This photo I grabbed from the nebrocks.org website. Your El Cid 45 is slightly the harder of the 2 to find imo.
  14. Thanks for the response. With regards TR+ sellers it actually seems to be right across the board. One seller I just looked at had a feedback score of only 20 and it goes right through to Top Rated with high feedback figures. The funny thing is, having spent a couple of hours looking through ebay.com, it doesn't look so bad this evening, but I do think overall I've noticed a definite increase so more sellers must be opting in. One seller I've bought off in the past now ships via GSP so maybe I'll send a message and ask what the reason is.
  15. Resurrecting this old chestnut as I've recently noticed more and more US sellers listing on eBay.com appear to be specifying international shipping via the Global Shipping Program. Purely from observation it would seem loads more sellers specify this service as standard. So my question to any US sellers reading this is has this become a "default" setting when listing on eBay, to be opted out of rather than into perhaps? I noticed one seller even made a comment in their listing to the effect of "I DO NOT USE EBAY'S GLOBAL SHIPPING PROGRAM", or similar wording. Fair to say there are still plenty not using GSP but if the use of this service becomes more commonplace, compulsory even, it really is eBay ringing their own death knell as far as international sales from the US, not just for vinyl but many other goods. Currently the typical $13 charge for a 45 is a lot to pay for shipping but under the Global Shipping Policy this bloats to somewhere around $17 + import charges. As I said at the outset this is just an observation but I will be interested to hear the answer to my question.
  16. 2 this morning. Both same group. Little Joe & La Familia - Girl You Turn Me own + La Familia Inc - This Time. 2nd copy of This Time I've had recently & it looks pretty good in that Falcon Record sleeve.
  17. Steady copy easier than Tranquility imo. Bought it (Steady) a couple of times cheaply on ebay and I posted it on youtube some years ago, always meant to post the flip which is good too......if you don't know it already.
  18. OK so flipping the thread on it's head, should we actually be discussing the VG- and lower grades not the EX grade, which seems quite obviously to indicate an Excellent, but not Mint, condition disc, and makes a lot of sense to use as far as I'm concerned. However records graded as G, presumably to indicate Good, are anything but and in any other field would most likely fall foul of the Trades Descriptions Act. Therefore do away with G and use Poor, or even Bad! This brings us onto VG- where, using your description above, the record looks shall we say "tired" but plays somewhat better than visual. I would suggest Fair would be a more obvious choice than VG-. As I said this is purely hypothetical, I'm certainly not trying to rewrite the age old accepted grading system(s) but if I was an outsider looking in then the most obvious choice would perhaps be Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, Excellent, Mint. I'd have a better idea of what I was getting rather than all this +++ & ---- nonsense. We are where we are , where we always were, with the existing grades......along with all the elation/frustration when the record lands on the mat. Anyway now off to buy another record I've just seen listed on eBay, VG++++++++
  19. Yes, I like the B side of the Billy Adams 45. The Harold Conner 45 is one of those that normally has a couple of pen crosses on the "plug" A side which, if you like a good ballad, is well worth a listen in it's own right. I hadn't heard it so it was a bonus when I listened to it. I'll try to add it to the refosoul index, or maybe my youtube channel, at some point.
  20. I don't think they use Ex at CM's......at least I don't remember seeing it used. Their VG+ is going to be in very nice condition when it arrives 99% of times. I don't mind the Ex grade at all, as it's far less confusing than all the ++++++ signs sometimes seen. In fact I think the seller should be able to use whatever grading system they like as long as it's absolutely clearly stated and accurate. It would help to have a standard that everyone used but that will never happen. Including good scans/pics alongside audio samples from the actual record for sale is by far the best way a seller can try to indicate condition. Way better than any grading system or description alone. As far as Mint goes it would have to be still sealed, in shrink or whatever, to qualify in my opinion and I reckon VG- is as low as it gets......rough.
  21. Yes. I was referencing the "Old Man Mose" side as being different but admittedly this isn't clear from my post.
  22. The Impalas also released the song on the Rite On label. I think it was the b side to Old Man Mose.
  23. Had a few through recently. Latterly Harold Conner - I'll Be There. I'd been looking for it for a while so pretty pleased.
  24. Les Harris has been mentioned a few times. Les is currently selling on ebay as jhatala210. Is he miserable? I don't know, but his customer care leaves a lot to be desired. I've never actually met, or spoken to Les, in person, but had all sorts of problems with him over the years, mainly records not as described eg. described M- but arriving thrashed on more than one occasion. Another time I bought a 45 for $50 as a buy it now on ebay, Les contacted me within hours to say it was listed in error, I said fair enough. Next thing Les has flagged me as a non paying bidder. About 12 months later I spotted the same 45 on ebay again.....he had relisted it, this time for $100. Mainly he will ignore emails/ebay messages, or take days to reply, and you may have to go through the complaints/claims procedure. He puts a little slip in with the records asking for 5 star feedback & that you contact him in the event of a problem. The problem I have is he seems to regularly turn up records on my "wants" list at low prices, so over time I've tended to accept the grading will most likely be off so long as the price is right. The last one I bought from Les was another long time want, described as M- but arrived VG with a lot of scratches on one side. I got in touch then waited a few days before getting a short reply. In fairness Les was fine and we agreed a partial refund. I was happy........maybe Les was too. EDIT: typo
  25. Always a bargain to be found with Richard Domar, from his lists right up to when he closed down his website. You just didn't know what to expect when you phoned, or emailed, after something........a lack of interpersonal skills is how I'd best describe it. Richard could be as nice as pie, I have emails to prove it!
