70's Tracks - Suggestions Wanted For Tracks In A Similar Style/tempo
Tiberius replied to Raym's topic in Look At Your Box
LP only Van McCoy magic. Sadly this youtube rip comes nowhere near the sonic joy of listening to the fabulous production of the actual LP. -
It's worth pointing out that you need to buy the J-197 release for the Open The Door To Your Heart B side, rather than the earlier J-170 release, which has If You Want To Hold On (Stop Holding Out On Me) as the flip.

I guess most people will know of the website devoted to the work of NOLA recording legend Cosimo Matassa, https://cosimocode.com
-
In terms of writing and production Wardell Quezeque is up there with the best in my opinion. He's a NOLA legend. There's a compilation CD called "Don't Be No Square, Get Hip To Quezerque" which gives a good sample of this guy's work. I notice that it's now available on Spotify.

Also need to remove (The) Ringos and Tommy Sands as their songs are different "Ain't No Big Things". The Ringos song is a twangy guitar driven instrumental, which I think may have been covered by a few other bands, but isn't the song we're concerned with here. The Tommy Sands song is an uptempo rock 'n' roller, again, not the song we're discussing in this topic.

Here's the link to the one sold on ebay.com the other day - https://www.ebay.com/itm/L-Allen-Version-45-034-Can-039-t-We-Talk-It-Over-034-Northern-Soul-First-Press-G-amp-C-115-B-/293512692503?hash=item4456b84317%3Ag%3AYR8AAOSwcw1ebptT&LH_BIN=1&nma=true&si=pWd2%252BMb7HZfSZXG0aaOSE2Z8npE%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 According to the sellers sales blurb - "I can attest that this is a very rare first pressing of L Allen's record. I was a friend of L Allen when I was living in Western Pennsylvania USA in the 1960s and he gave me some copies of his record. This original first version has L Allen on the label. There are not many great copies of the original pressing in 1965. I actually witnessed L Allen singing his record live at a high school in Washington Pennsylvania. I was part of his supporting stage crew and DJ. Let my 100% feedback rating speak for my character. Based on the snippet below there may only be 100 or less original first press copies of this record in existence. snippet of information interesting... Larry Allen was from Greensburg, PA. Jerry Reed, who owned the label, had 1000 copies pressed. 500 as Larry Allen and 500 as L. Allen. It was released in the fall of 1965. Jerry got frustrated because the record didn't sell and at the time he had an old car that he was junking, and he threw around 900 copies of the record into the trunk to be crushed and remelted"

What's the story with Gemstones - Cold Soul? From memory, the last couple through ebay were around the $400- $500 mark. -
No idea on value, but I don't expect it to be all that high, but it is a rare 45. Here's an old thread - I bought that same 45 on ebay and subsequently posted it on youtube. Over the years quite a few have asked if I'd sell but I declined as I really like this version. It's a 45 I've always looked out for but not seen another copy 'til now. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough. Just noticed it was also released on en EP in South America - https://www.popsike.com/VIVA-time-wont-let-me-RARE-NORTHERN-SOUL-latin-MEXICO-7-jc-messina-RARE/232869810803.html

Yes. Top tens tend to change over time but If I Could See You Now has been, and would always be in mine.

I wouldn't normally post on these threads but always loved This Time Baby (3:56 version). RIP.

Young Holt Unlimited have already been mentioned so how about Summer Romance or Please Sunrise Please

The "A" is dodgy but I think the record is ok. The Monarch delta number puts it at early 1967. https://www.discogs.com/The-Younghearts-Little-Togetherness-Beginning-Of-The-End/release/4918844
