  1. I heard GS on a radio show with a certain guy spouting "how wonderful" they were to be finding and playing ( Butch's ) 1 off's to us mere mortals. Quite sickening i remember .
  2. Sure i have minter of this, i'll check tonight
  3. Dave Thorley has one, i know of about 4 copies, rare indeed
  4. Fab Playmates is pretty tough, i had just 2 copies off one of the band members in 1990 but this is just pure fantasy at £3K & more
  5. Sam played me this about 20 years ago , he'd just got it off Andy Dyson for £100 i think. Finally in demand so i'm guessing £5-600 , always loved it & play it occasionally
  6. Firstly i must apologies to the Author for not submitting my recollections of John, not sure what happened but i'm sorry about that. I met John in 83/4 & had hundreds of 45's off him. He was indeed the most unique dealer/collector i ever met and as reported in the article John was a total gentleman & had the most extensive knowledge. The way it worked with me ( & many others i guess ) was that we drove him around town & treated him to lunch & he would share his "special places" . My strongest memory was sitting in a diner & John proudly showing me a huge Red chili & with that broad smile of his saying " this is the godam hottest thing you can eat". I believe most of the meagre profits he made went to the Indian trust. Just a brilliant guy! Arthur.
  7. As i recall this is probably the mintish copy that went through ebay quite reasonably 3/4 yrs ago for about $2.5K so not a bad return on investment. Not a record i like tho
  8. Funny this as until possibly 20 yrs ago i don't know of anyone who had the promo. Circa 78 it was Poke's "Mel Brit" cover up. 18 months later issue's turned up at the Bowl @ £20 or so apiece. I bought 2 . I found 1 spare for $2 at John Hilliyard's house in 85 & sold it to Graham Ellis. Not everyone's cup a T for sure but i love it 8-).
  9. I went along, took me weeks to get the dust out of my hair 8-)
  10. Best wishes Dean from me & Maria x
  11. Oh yeah, he also had some other pop bits off me at the time like cindy lynn
  12. Er, i found the buckinghams in a thrift store in leeds circa 76 & gave it to Alan Rhodes to play at wigin. Sorry guys!
  13. i picked one up out of a U.K sales box 18 months ago for £100, minter too. Lots around in iffy condition tho.
  14. I used to follow Nev at the Winter Gardens dayers & good fun it was too. He was, apart from being an all round great guy a very charismatic dj. One funny thing i'll never forget was whilst working for John Manship Nev was under strict instructions never to say where he'd been looking for records. When he turned up after a mystery buying trip wearing a loud colourful top with " i love LA"all over it i sorted of guessed he'd been on the west coast.
  15. i used to play it at the Winter Gardens 78 ish courtesy of Mr Raistrick, think i gave him Danny Monday for it
  16. just checked mine Eddie, well spotted, i've never noticed that before, got a minter off ebay last yr cherpy cherpy cheap cheap
  17. sound more like Tom Jones to me
  18. But don't forget you said i could play it Ady . Sq? it bleedin brilliant
  19. The Fleet was my first big niter gig circa 78/79 for Ken Cox. Big sounds for me there were things like Soul Communicators, Greater Experience, Perisians, Don Ray. Good fun but not too many records stood the test of time tho ,
  20. & i think for the better as on the whole quality is rising to the top , as with the Ascots
  21. i used to play it at the likes of Todmorden & Snaith, it was a warm up record cos it was so slow, oh how things change
  22. the accountant per chance?. Rob offered me the issue for £700 at a little club in hull circa 99, perhaps i should have scraped the dosh up
  23. good read this book, funny how John La Monte is described as a "bit player" i mean he only had 40million 45's
