  2. I went regularly to Sale Mecca and I always got that impression. I vaguely remember the Anderson Brothers getting a luke warm reception first time round, then road block the following week!!
  3. Yes, along with the Carstairs, Gil Scott Heron "the bottle" which has been an anthem on many scenes!!
    Up and at 'em on Fathers Day !! Just recovering from a sensational night at Ashton Ukrainian Club, on a real busy night on the soul calendar. People turned out in droves last night and as always a good few first timers soaking up that special atmosphere at this great little club!! Phil Dunn did a solid opening set, with a few classics thrown in, Billy Prophet, still sounds so good!! Up stepped William Mailey and boy did he nail it, Clarence Hill, The Trends "dig the blues" stand out tracks for me, a real mixed bag, hats off sir, great set!! Chris Penn was up next and confided he was feeling a tad nervous, he needn't have worried, some real stunners, Hytones "you don't even know my name" lit the dance floor up!! My Old mate Derek Pearson followed and for me personally played the spot of the night!! Carressors, Masqueraders "how" Joseph Moore and how good did The Impressions "you ought to be in heaven" sound!! As Dee Pee said, they don't have to cost a fortune, all about quality soul music!!! Roger Banks followed opening with two Volt classics Margie Joseph and Paul Thompson WOW!! Mixed in with some early sixties classics Sylvia Shemwell, Clydie King "only the guilty cry" loved it"" The ever dependable Chris Churm AKA "the finisher" opening with two Detroit Heavyweights Judy Freeman "hold on" Ivy Jo" I can feel the pain" set the tone and yet again people dancing to the very last drop!! Personal thanks from me Natalie Nicholls for my Gucci record Centres, love them and Alan Jenkins, two of the scene's finest and non too shabby DJs!! Great to see some of the old Wilton Crowd over!! Once again we can't thank our Loyal Regulars and First Timers enough, you make it all worthwhile.   6. The Build up for Saturday at Ashton Ukrainian Club, has reached fever pitch!! So many messages and enquiries for our Great Little Club. Check out the thread for a taster of what's to come!! Top Drawer DJ line up for our Loyal Brethren!! Roger Banks makes his second appearance at the club, as a former Regular DJ at local places from the 80s/90s like Hyde Botanical Club, Hyde Allnighter and The Concorde Suite Droylsden amongst others Roger knows the score and ALWAYS Delivers!! A similar musical journey applies to Chris Penn as a former resident when the event first started at Dukinfield Masonic, always a wide and varied playlist for the dancers!! Derek Pearson is primed and ready to go, with I'm sure a few class spins from The Wilton Ballroom, Bradford Rare Soul Nights and many more!!! Another Ashton Debutant, regular William Mailey is going to be setting the pace, with an all action early doors set (deffo no pressure mate) Team Ukrainian founder Chris Churm and Phil Dunn complete a pretty special line up!!! Like we always say, early arrival is a MUST to secure your place in the main room, as the tables get snapped up with a quickness!! The action starts 7pm and runs till 00.30, just £5 admission gets you through the doors and check out the lounge area, as our vinyl vendors, try to relieve you of your hard earned!! See you there, you know it makes sense!!!

Just over a week to our Mid Summer Soul Spectacular at Ashton Ukrainian Club, Saturday June 15th we look forward to the DJing return of Roger Banks , expect the usual mix of tempos and styles, aimed firmly at the dancefloor!!! Derek Pearson is really up for his debut set, I'm sure him and Roger will be programming a few classics from the much missed Wilton Ballroom Niters !! Making the Long journey South down the A1, Chris Penn returns, sure to be some "rare as you dare" platters from the 60s/70s. As a former resident he knows the score to keep the dancers and deck peerers happy!! William Mailey is chomping at the bit, for his first spot, Billy is a regular and has been making some tasty additions to his playbox!! Check out the thread for some sample spins from all the guest DJs, as we near the date!! Team Ukrainian Founder and Head Honcho Chris Churm has by popular demand, promised to dig deep into the collection with a planned earlier set Woo Hoo!! Phil Dunn will as usual be laying down the foundation for another Epic Night !!! The night runs 7pm-00.30 and a mere £5 admission pay on the door. Lots of interest already, so please arrive early!!

  20. Kicking off a new week in fine style, dipping into the selections of Shades of Soul Scribe Derek Pearson and a 70s dancer from the halcyon days of Blackpool Meccca, Cleethorpes + The Ritz alldayers, still sounding fresh today!!
    Really enjoyed Culcheth last night, arrived at 8.10 nearly all the tables in the main room had been taken, so all boded well for a busy night. Baz was on the decks for the first hour, some tasty tunes played, as you would expect!! I enjoyed my 9-10 slot behind the decks, nice to mix it up a bit and keep it popping along!! First guest of the night Taz followed me, an eclectic mix of the classics(Calvin Grayson) ,Funky Edge and a few R+B things that went down well with the dancers and great to hear Modern Soul Classics like Ice "reality" finding favor on the dance floor . Uncle Ted was top of the night and took it on to another level again mixing the big hitters Walter + The Admirations, Mellow Souls in with some raw edge R+B Mike Pedicin sounded a bit good!! Kev Murphy rounded off a great night early selections like The Del Tours was non too shabby. We dipped in the Modern Room a few times and a busy night as well, great mix of modern soul across the decades, so hats off Baz, job done mate!!

The Bar keeps getting set ever higher by our fabulous guest DJs!! Saturday June 15th we have another stellar line up!! Looking forward to the DJing return of Roger Banks a guy who never disappoints and is no stranger to the area, as a former Tameside Resident!! Talking of residents Chris Penn was a former resident DJ when the event was in it's early days, quality rare soul guaranteed !!
