  1. Ashton Ukrainian Club Anniversary night, draws ever closer!! Saturday February 15th is the date, please note we have secured a later finish, we will be running 7pm-1am courtesy of our Brilliant Steward and bar staff. So that's six hours of Soulful Heaven and just £6 admission pay on the door. Probably advisable to arrive early to either guarantee your seat in the main room or the lounge/bar area for your vinyl sales!! Headlining this month and making his DJ debut, Nottingham's Mick H, so many people looking forward to that!! Pete Hollander will be back behind the decks and STILL celebrating his landmark Birthday and why not? Robbo will be making the short hop across East Manchester from Sunny Gorton, expect the unexpected, anything could happen, as he dives into an enviable playbox amassed over the years!! Chris Churm makes a rare foray into a middle evening set, he still manages to stun us with "never knew he had that 45"!! He really is the original Dark Horse, always quality selections!! Phil Dunn will be opening the show, again quality evergreens and a few left fielders!! Stockport's Favourite Son Simon "The Finisher" Ingham will be finishing off, what already promises to be a "special night"!! As ever hats off to the loyal, Ashton Faithful and to our first time attendees, you make the night and atmosphere what it is !! Please check back regularlyfor a more in depth dive into what we're all about and some stunning slabs of Soul !! See everybody there, can't wait!!

  8. After a momentous event at Culcheth's Lowton Anniversary Event, we're back on the horse. Killer R+B from the play box of Simon Ingham !!
What a fitting way to celebrate The Lowton Anniversary at Culcheth. A full house and three busy rooms with quality music, throughout. We arrived mid afternoon and the place was already filling up and people continued to arrive into the early evening!! So many quality spins in every room, all styles catered for, what's not to like? I'm sure we'll see a few playlists later, when everyone's recovered a bit. Hats off to Baz M for what must have been a logistical nightmare, three sound rigs and a whole host of DJs to organise. It all came together in fine style!!! My contributions in the Rare(dark) Room 10pm-11pm bit of a mixed bag!! First Faux Pas in the handover thanked Ian Wills instead of Ian Cunliffe lol I think I was disorientated !! Lee Williams "it's everything about you" Buddy Connor "when you're alone" The Dramatics "your love was strange" Geater Davis "my love is so strong" Lattimore Brown "sweet desiree" Betty Moorer "speed up" Edwin Starr "my kind of woman" Elbie Parker "please keep away" Hollidays "I lost you" The Vontells "ta hula hoop" Melvin Davis "I must love you" September Jones "I'm coming home" The Gambrells "you better move" The Dushons "you better think it over" Choice of Colour "your love" Keamus Setna Barbara Mason "you better stop it" Cookie Scott "misled" meant to play the Flip Mike Roche Beloyd "get into your life" Skip Jackson "I'm onto you girl" Andrea Henry "I need you like a baby" The Sparkels "try love" Dean Courtney "love you just can't walk away" Long may it continue!!
  9. Deffo some great recollections from The Kenwood Suite, as shared on a recent Dean Anderson "sound of soul" radio show, monster tracks like Johnny Rogers "make a change" played in the first hour, just to set the mood like
  10. Ending the week on a high, mid sixties Philly written by Norman Johnson and a massive spin at The Casino for Richard Searling and a monster spin for Robbo!!!
  11. Looking forward to a Kenwood Suite Reunion in the Rare Room, some fantastic memories and not least WHAT a line up!!! Canny wait
  12. Just over a couple of weeks to our much anticipated Anniversary Night at Ashton Ukrainian Club. Saturday February 15th we have another quality DJ line up for the Ashton Brethren !! Just to clarify this is a £6 admission pay on the door event, no ticket required BUT judging by the enquiries we've received, early arrival is advisable to gain your seat in The Main Room or a table in the lounge, which doubles as a place to buy/sell/trade your 45s, whichever your preference. Please note we have managed to secure a 1am finish so that's six hours of the finest Rare and Underplayed Soul, we hit the ground running at 7pm !!! East Midlands Rare Soul man Mick H makes his DJ debut at Ashton, please check the thread regularly, for some sample spins you can expect to hear on the night !! Pete Hollander will be belatedly celebrating his 70th birthday and also making a welcome return behind the decks after a memorable set last year!!! Team Ukrainian Simon "Ringer/Fixer/Taste Maker/Sound Engineer Ingham, for one night only(maybe) will be finishing the evening, expect the usual high quality mix!! Add to the above list, occasional valet for Robbo the man who puts the SOUL in Manchester 18 (Gorton, for the uninitiated) is also back with us after a recent show stopping double deck set!!! Phil Dunn starts the evening off, to lay down the foundations for what is shaping up to be a memorable occasion!! Team Ukrainian OG Chris Churm will be striking out in a middle of the evening set, digging even deeper into an awesome play box!! Some amazing guest DJs already in the pipeline for this year, please keep your eyes on here and the Soul-Source event page thread for more details, as the year unfolds!!
  13. This Detroit Double Sider could well get an airing in the Euphoric last hour from Simon!! Always drags tired limbs back to the dance floor!!
  14. A Drop of Funky Edged Soul from Mick H that has people packing the Dance Floor !!!
  15. Yeah hope so mate, quality Soul !!!
  16. A Marmite record best describes the next track, file under Dance Floor Destroyer, hope Mick H brings this with him!!
  17. Could get played in the modern room as well
  18. Probably one of a few potential spinners of said tune mate and yeah luckily mine has a clean label
  19. WOW !! February is hotting up in The North West with TWO significant anniversaries at Culcheth with the Lowton Anniversary and of course Ashton Ukrainian Club!! Paris was right there will be some "Sleepless Nights" talking of which, hoping Simon Ingham gives this a spin, Happy Monday People!!!
  20. Those were the days, when you could pick quality records up without breaking the bank. Mine was £25 of Johnny Manship and round about the same time bought Pat +The Blenders for £30 in the record bar at Lowton off Flanny I think. A sea of Sharks was probably the best way to describe Lowton Record Bar, all waiting for a feeding frenzy of the vinyl kind, some proper bargain buys to be had. I remember Plumby having multiples of The Philharmonics, Jeez oh for a time machine and a bucket load of cash!!
  21. See you both next week mate
